Some more news about the Canada situation: The rest of the skaters should get their visas by October 25-26th, and are set to leave on the 27th. Unfortunately, the competition starts on the 29th, and Canada has a mandatory 3-day quarantine. sports.ru

Simple: every other skater here would embarrass themselves trying to skate Miyahara's step sequence. This is the Russian thread so I don't want to derail it further though
The opposite is also true. How many skaters would embarrass themselves trying a quad?

The step sequence is worth next to noting against the big jumps so being good at those alone won’t win you any big events.

She finished 7th today so her skating isn’t what you should be copying if you want to be a gold medal winner.

She was a ton behind the leader. So in competition, her step sequences are only good for moral victories. I rather have the scoreboard victory.

Fantastic start to the GP for all three. Some quick impressions:

Sasha: Good job!! Honestly, to skate this well with an injury is just insane. You could see that the landings were tight/painful but she pulled them off and won a deserved Gold. I do hope it was worth it in the long run and she won‘t end up injuring herself further. Please have her rest for now, her second GP isn‘t until a few more weeks.

I still love the program but for it to fully work, she either needs to perform it with more conviction or skate the way she did at Test Skates with 5 quads that blow you away no matter the choreo (or lack of it). I‘m up for either of the two scenarios.

Daria: Honestly, neither of her programs are choreographed all too well but the SP is a lot better. She also performed the heck out of it, whereas in the free she seemed tentative and nervous. So, it all left me feeling cold and barely an hour after watching the program, I‘ve forgotten it entirely. Not sure what the dress has to do with the music either. That being said, she is a very beautiful skater that could probably be so much more impressive with the right packaging. I saw hints of that in the SP - let‘s see if she ever manages to perform brilliantly enough to overcome the mediocrity of the choreography she was given in the FS. Congrats on the Silver, though, which means she‘s got a pretty good chance at the final now.

Ksenia: Good debut, as well, though not enough for a medal. Similarly to Daria, I think her SP is much stronger. She has nice qualities (spins; skating skills) but those tight landings on the triples will continue to hurt her scores if she doesn‘t clean them up.

Overall a pretty impressive event and now I hope for similarly good skating at Skate Canada (particularly Aliona lol) and for them to even get there in the first place, I guess….

And what does that have to do with PCS (you know, skating skills, performance, composition and the likes)? Exactly! Nothing whatsoever. Everyone knows Satoko is not a technical skater at all and should be dinged on the majority of her triples but that doesn’t mean she shouldn‘t be rewarded for her qualities in PCS. So, your comment makes no sense, sorry.

Anyway, this is the Russian women‘s thread, so I‘ll just leave it at that.

She was 37 points behind. So in competition, her step sequences are only good for moral victories. I rather have the scoreboard victory.
I don’t disagree with anything you said. The poster asked me why I thought she should be first on the PCS in the short program

I hope Trusova finally realizes that she doesnt have to pull out all her tricks to win a competition.

If she keeps performing clean even with her easier content that will eventually do good with her PCS reputation.

Pull out those guns when its needed but please strategies and pace your self.

This week was a true test of her character and growth. I feel like she finally listens to her coaches and humbled herself. I feel like I was watching a different person.

Im so proud of Sasha.

So with 9 on the grand prix + 4 from the JGPF there are 5 spots left from the Russian Cup? Those spots will be contested by Nugumanova, Gulyakova, Samodelkina, Zinina, Yametova, Molchanova, Morozova it seems?
I'm curious why Muravieva is being sent but not Zinina. Is Zinina not trying for senior nationals?
It will only be 3 from the JGPF, Zhilina is too young.

But...maybe Plushy knows that Zhilina won't go to JGPF as she has been injured. And Zinina is the 1st Alternate. So in that case there will be 4 from JGPF to Senior Nats.

Personally I think that Nugumanova and Gulyakova might be in trouble here. They haven't shown anything up their usual standards yet. And if the likes of Shulskaya and Tsibinova etc. shows up at the last two stages, N & G are in big trouble.

I think Morozova are as good as clear for now. She has a 5th and a 1st place...that should probably be enough.

I saw this online somewhere and it's really cool; so I know that people have had questionable opinions about Sasha's FP dress, but it actually has the names of her dogs written on it. :)

So if they leave on 27th and arrive on 27th or 28th, they’ll only be released from quarantine on 30-31st? How is that supposed to work?
Oh Jesus Christ…

Would it be fair to say the Russian girls were good but not overwhelming?

Sasha did what she had to do. Now she can let her foot heal.
I think I can agree on that. But I see it the optimistic way that it keeps promises for the further competitions ;)
Also when you realize that in fact all three have injuries/are recovering from injuries, then their performances look even better.

Fantastic start to the GP season!

Loved it!

So the scores for the contenders for an Olympic ticket is so far...

Valieva 249
Tuktamysheva 233
Trusova 232
Khromykh 224
Shcherbakova 222
Kostornaia 218
Usacheva 217
Sinitsyna 205

This doesn't mean much at this point. But I think it was good for Sasha to have a clean skate today and showing that she is a contender with only one quad.
Usacheva and Sinitsyna can probably raise their scores by 10+ points, but I don't think that will be enough to be an Olympic contender.

We'll see, it's still early days...

Yes I was waiting for this moment for a long long time. She should understand that with only two clean quads she can score 240+

I believe Samodelkina is the first alternate because her total score from 2 stages is higher

Obviously this final dress is definitely more polished and cleaner looking than the draft one but It is missing the angst for me. I would prefer the more rugged version that we saw in the preview even it people hated it

Both of Usacheva ‘s dresses looks so etheral on TV. I love it

I thought so too. But the ISU changed the rules awkwardly this year, so it is the best runner up from the JGPs that are in line. So Zinina is 1st alternate, Samodelkina is 2nd.

I have absolutely no idea. Canada seems to be pretty strict when it comes to letting people into the country. I remember Jason Brown needed to get like, 3 different letters from USFS, Skate Canada, and such just to drive across the US-Canada border last year.

Congrats to Sasha on the gold and Daria on the silver!

Sasha's 4Lz was amazing to watch, even with the imperfect landing. She just flies through the air and hangs there for longer than you'd expect. I really liked the start of her FP where she really got into the performing. But then the jumps started and she went stone faced until the break but I imagine the injury is to blame for that.

Daria is very fast and polished but I'm sorry, I kind of hate both of her programs and especially this one. PCS seemed... surprisingly reasonable but also kind of low compared to other competitions?

I feel like the scoring at this event was closer to Budapest than Finlandia so that's good but I also still think Sasha and Daria were slightly overscored, Sasha on the GOEs for her somewhat iffy landings and Daria on the GOE for her flutzes. Only slightly overscored though which is a big improvement from many previous competitions so good job ISU I guess.

Kseniia though... It's time for me to riot. What was that 64 PCS. I would have her at 67 at least, if we're being relative to the others. In contrast to the SP, I love her FP music and that multi-directional spin was glorious. I hope she can get some time with a jump specialist though as they are teeny tiny and I think that's affecting her PCS (zzzz judges :rolleye:). Also, flutzes not being called really affects her as her lutz has a great outside edge.
