Regarding Gleikh's latest interview and his words about Alena - before you start going fan-sensitive with conclusions, try to understand that these coaches spend more days/months/years with their students than their own parents, therefore know exactly what to say to push a competitive psychological button inside their heads.

Daniil doesn't "like" or "dislike" Alena, he just knows how to motivate her. If necessary - even through media interview...

I for one wish he would get a muzzle , meaning no interviews from him please. What is wrong with that team that the trainers or choreographers feel the need to put their athletes down openly? Is it their ego or what is wrong . Get a pr manager to train dani on how to not put students down openly. And no thats not motivating someone , and i doubt aliona sees that as motivation. Well she took down said thank you post.

Daniil, in my opinion, you overestimate the rationality of the average fan :) For me, he speaks rationally, is soft in wording (but firm in the clarity of his main idea). But of course there are already moans and cries "all over the Russian land". Of course, Alyona was already offended and deleted that Instagram post (as one of the fs-bloggers writes "Alyonaaaaaa.... you should have kept reading: "our task is to help her reach her maximum.") Typical Russian drama as it is

In the dry residue: Alyona does not do as much as the rest of the girls in training. She understands everything herself about that, the coaches understand that she understands everything, everyone understands everything, but... I also perceive that Daniil Markovich is trying to motivate her at least that way. While Alyona is only offended, but she is a changeable, impulsive nature, so may be it's work :)

Maybe they're doing all they can in training and she's still not responding adequately, while Olympics are approaching.
Maybe actually HE DOES CARE about her so much, that he tried to influence her this way.
Did you think about that?

here we go

In whose world is any of what he said motivating? I dont anyone who would find him talking like that motivating. The opposite actually.

And no thats not motivating someone , and i doubt aliona sees that as motivation. Well she took down said thank you post.

Then it will not progress further. Will not get to the main competitions. And the train of women's Russian figure skating will continue to rush forward rapidly.

The main problem of Alyona is that everyone loved her too much. And she herself believed that she was the most wonderful and that everything would always work out for her. This is a typical psychological trap of gifted people. And Alyona's age and her impulsive nature do not make the situation easier. But one way or another - she urgently needs to get out of this trap. And the emotional screams of the fans only complicate this task.

Of course Gleikhengauz is entirely justified in speaking like this to the media about a literal teenager. He‘s only trying to "motivate" her because all good girls find motivation in having their work ethic and character publically questioned and criticized. Isn‘t it logical? Can‘t you relate to that?

Anyway. Aliona‘s always been lazy, who cares that she might be going through puberty and/or suffering from long covid and thus physically can‘t do the same amount of runthroughs others do? And it‘s not like the training based on these constant repetitions leads to systematic injuries at a certain age and Aliona’s seen it throughout the years on all of her training mates and might thus have justified worries, absolutely not. No. She‘s just not hardworking. That‘s all. Case closed, mystery solved.

Love your sarcasm

Of course Gleikhegauz hates Aliona. He gave her an epic "Angel", Juliet and other programs that took figure skating fans' breathes away, just so it hurt more when he's going to bring her down after couple of years. Isn‘t it logical? Can‘t you relate to that? :rolleye:

That‘s literally his job, he‘s getting paid for that. What does it have to do with anything again?

But I‘ll be bowing out of that discussion prematurely because I know from experience where it will end (nowhere…) and I just don‘t have the time for it. Just couldn‘t help myself on that occasion. Agree to disagree, I suspect.

Or maybe some kindness and patience is what she needs to influence her. Goodness knows she's had a lot of the opposite lately and did it work? Not as much as some like to keep repeating.

Did you think about that?

I think this is misunderstanding his comments. He IS just supporting her. He's saying her continued drive to improve and compete (with competitive elements including learning a quad and having 3 3As) is inspiring to those in figure skating that their careers don't have to end at 17. Liza isn't my cup of tea; however, I do admire her drive to continue to improve in the face of what must seem like long odds. And Liza IS competing. He isn't saying that she should be on the team ahead of anyone. He isn't trying to tell Russia what to do. That's silly to assume he is. He's merely saying that he (like probably others here) would like to see her on
Maybe people overreacted to what Brian said.
The spot doesn't go to Russia. It never has needed nor was required to. It's not Russia's spot to give or request.

But Japan hasn't even replaced Rika's spot. Or even Olga's when she withdrew in October. For that matter, same with Daniil's spot on the men's side. They're (JSF) not required to replace the spot and Japan in particular has strict quarantine restrictions.
Thanks.

And what if not? Whatever fans think, they know skaters through their performances and instagram posts. Which means they don't know them. You or me don't know them. As was said above, those coaches are with the skaters maybe more than their own parents.

I was no top athlete but judging by myself the way to motivate me to something in my school or university times definitely didn't lead through "my poor little boy, I will pet you". Everybody is different but let those who are close to it decide which way is the best, even though the decision is not what they would portray it in a hollywood movie. ;)

P. S.: IMO who is not paying should not be advising.

So you don't see "kindness and patience" here?

– So Alyona has problems with motivation?

– It's hard to say that is about motivation. Again. She needs to sort herself out. I can't say that there are problems with motivation. People are all different. Not all of us can do the same thing every day. Turn off your emotions and just work on repetition and do the same, same, same thing. This is the difficulty of sports.

– Is there a problem with Alyona's contact with the coaching staff?

– No, there is no problem with the contact. We are discussing this, she understands it perfectly. The question is how to help her with this, in this routine. So that she could do her maximum every day. When she goes to competitions, she always does more than she shows in training.

It's strange, for me personally, this is exactly what patience and care looks like.

You completely misunderstand me and are looking for conflict.

Since we are mincing words - he said she "Liza gives hope to all the skaters of the planet. She must be on the Olympic team in Beijing-2022", must be on the team is a lot stronger verbiage than saying I would like or love to see her on the team. It was very strange verbiage for him to use.

But I don't think Brian Orser is exactly the person the coaches council is looking to for advice on who is going to be on the Russian Olympic team. So fans of skaters they are concerned might be unfairly replaced on the team with Tuktamysheva due to political influence can probably relax on this one.

Plus he praises her competitive spirit in that last sentence.
It sounds like he's genuinely sad that she's wasting her potential by not giving her best in training.

He said Kostornaia doesn't skate the same amount as others do. Is that offensive ? Or the part where he explained why her PCS went down ?
Why would you be outraged over that. I understand it is propably a cultural thing, but man, how stupid is that
Why is he talking about aliona and other countries skaters? He's an active coach not a retired coach and current analyst analyst. Does he talk about Mariah and Alysa? Nyet. when in the hell does EG ever talk about any other coaches skaters or any other country skaters?
Russian Cup Stage 4 starts tomorrow for the women

Zinina, Shulskaya, Nugumanova, Gulyakova, Samodelkina will battle it out in seniors.
Gulyakova really needs a podium finish here but it's going to be tough. Nugumanova is already out of Nationals.
This also means that we won't see Frolova and Tsibinova at Nationals. Maybe they are changing countries??

In juniors we have Gorbacheva, Artyomova, Gurgenidze, Dmitrieva, Ponteleenko, Lagutova.
Dmitrieva needs a podium finish here.
No sign of Sadkova, Berestovskaya, Ovchinnikova, so I guess we won't see them either at junior Nats. Or has Berestovskaya already Q because of her JGP assignment?
They are probably changing countries and I can't blame them especially since they just saw Maria and anastacsia do it. Gulyiakova
should change countries as well for sport. Her regression under the professor has been quite disappointing.

I would think Sofia Samo would win stage 4.

No I don't. I don't believe Daniil hates Aliona or is trying to sabotage her but publicly saying these things is not helping. This was clearly a baity journalist who is trying to stir up drama but Daniil is not good at avoiding it. All he had to say was "We are working hard together to find the best approach to training" or something like that. No blaming Aliona, just emphasizing that it's a collaborative effort because he keeps slipping up. In fact, his answer to the second question is very good and supportive.

Also, he's making it easier for judges to mark her down. Judges are being told, it's okay to be extra harsh on her because she's not good enough anyway.

Being cruel to be kind doesn't always work. Sometimes you actually have to be kind to be kind.
