I did so, you need to insert links there. I inserted links from different photo hosting sites and each time I failed. Do you need some special photo hosting there?

whole post

That's the whole point, isn't it? If Dani G. himself in fact wants to sound like a whiny mean girl, well, hey, who am I to say no:laugh:

I don't know the man well enough to know if that's his style, but if you say so🤷‍♀️

ETA: I will say there is nothing in his remarks in this interview on Aliona K that shows strength, purpose, "Truth to power" or discipline as a coach. But anyone can have a bad day, even a coach in an interview.

I just think the Tut team should never have accepted Aliona back, having so many good and GRATEFUL students, I never saw the point in bringing her back. Honestly, she is solely responsible for her situation, after leaving the team abandoned, the comments she said about her programs, her haughty attitude when moving in with Plushenko, are the consequences of her actions.

LOL. Maybe you should read a bit more closely because Daniil was the one talking about Aliona‘s scores and lacking motivation and whatnot, not Orser.
I will use I had a rough night excuse.

I get the feeling Danol is not thrilled to have Aliona back and I'm sure she feels that too. Who knows maybe this is just a one-season thing.

Have you watched/read this interview? or "I heard your Caruso, Mishka sang it to me - nothing special"

I have read a translation provided on another site. I do not know if the translation is accurate, so I should always preface with that. And I do not mean to pick on him, anyone can misspeak or say the wrong thing from time to time. For me, the section on Aliona sounds like "whining", not like "tough love". Maybe it sounds different in the original.

In any event, I hope that all the women develop their talents as best they can.

I like your quote:biggrin:: is that your own, or is that a saying in Russian?

I like how the discussion shows that usually the people least interested/involved/informed make usually the most strict judgements ;)
And as far as I can tell, the user el genry constantly writes that ladies are absolutely not interested (especially Russian ladies) but at the same time, he does not miss any interesting parties

For example, dancing is absolutely indifferent to me - that's why I won't look into dancing threads, even if the second coming of Christ happens there (well, okay, for the sake of Jesus, I maybe make an exception  )

In this case, we have a completely different understanding of the term "whining".

of course not mine :) this is a well-known joke in Russia

I agree, not because this "storm in a glass of water" at all, but because people should be free to choose their way but they also should learn that freedom means responsibility for your choices (now the title of the movie appears and kung fu training scene follows ;)).

I do like skating so much I do go into threads of skaters I don't follow. And once I am in a conversation, out of politeness, I prefer to finish until I bow out.

Sometimes I think it's frustrating that I can't be labeled a "hater" (although I hate, or maybe I should say strongly dislike, that word) but I think it is better to admit what I know and what I don't know. Anyone who thinks I have strong feelings on this subject has never read any of my posts on the men, particularly the US men, particularly my fav:)

You are right, we have different views of what was said. So this is where I bow out.👋

Oh, an 18 year old skater is suddenly lazy and lacks stamina and motivation compared to her 14-15 year old self, how unexpected... No, but seriously, aren't coaches supposed to defend skaters? Or at least portray them in positive light? After all, officials from federation read those articles too and it could influence their decisions while choosing team for Olympics, Worlds or GP selections. And how will any athlete have motivation if their own coaches don't really have trust in them? Aliona was definitely not okay with those comments either, and it's pretty sad that her gratitude was met with rather negative words.

I don't agree. It's good that she came back and they took her back.

You are in the same paradigm of perception of this whole situation that user Fried (who wrote "the public penance ordered in the First Chanal") only with the opposite sign.

There is a valuable student. There is a teacher. The teacher studied the situation, all its aspects that are inaccessible to us, and gave her verdict - "The situation is not hopeless, she can still be returned to a normal path. We're taking her back". And I don't think that Eteri was wrong. Alyona is slowly returning. The problem is that she doesn't have enough time. And it was precisely about the fact that she should mobilize that Daniil spoke.

Your kidding? Alina was 15 by July 1, 2017 and got to skate and win that GPF? No?
No but her birthday to turn 16 is before the season ends (8 May). Therefore she's eligible as a Sr. for the 2017-18 season is what I believe. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think so. I remember Lipnitskaya being the youngest ever or one of the youngest and her birthday is 5 June, turning 16 in 2014.

Valieva was born April 2006 and Samodelkina February 2007. It isn't like Kamila would be eligible for Senior GP and GPF last year. She would be 2nd year Jr.

Maybe they're doing all they can in training and she's still not responding adequately, while Olympics are approaching.
Maybe actually HE DOES CARE about her so much, that he tried to influence her this way.
Did you think about that?

Plus he praises her competitive spirit in that last sentence.
It sounds like he's genuinely sad that she's wasting her potential by not giving her best in training.

This is very disheartening. Let’s be honest here- had there been a Worlds 2 years ago Alena would be a World Champion. Instead Covid moved in and the whole world changed. We don’t know the circumstances of the coaching change. We know it happened, and that she also got Covid. Covid can have long lasting effects physically, but what about her MENTAL HEALTH. This girl has been through a lot. Is she depressed? That would be my first concern. She had been passed by younger girls, hasn’t been able to keep up with Anna ans Sasha, has been passed by Liza. I think people need to look at all the circumstances and keep in mind she’s a kid. Heck, I know grown adults that wouldn’t cope well with this stuff.

I also coach young kids and saw their motivation and mental health decline during Covid. I hope she has some support system in place
vs some grown man publicly humiliating her at a time she probably needs guidance and some acceptance.

I wish there was a coach she could go to that will believe in her— even if she doesn’t believe in herself. Mr. Orser??

Alena might be my favorite Eteri skater, but I don't find it hard to believe that she's not as focused as her teammates. She's forgetting her choreography, constantly changing her programs, and having issues with jumps other than the 3A. From any other country this would be fine, but most of the Russian Olympic team contenders are posting scores in the 220s and 230s so Alena has to figure out some way to get up in that range.

An excerpt from the DG interview:
- What is wrong with Alena's training process?
- The number of runthroughs does not correspond to the rest of the athletes in the group.
- Lazy? Not doing her best? Why is this happening?
- Alena herself will answer this, I cannot get into her head.
- But does she come to all training sessions?
- Thank God, yes. Practically.
- So Alena has problems with motivation?
- It's hard to say that this is a motivation problem. She needs to understand herself. People are all different, not all of us can do the same thing every day and turn off our emotions, work for repetition. Doing the same thing, the same thing - this is the complexity of our sport. To go to the competition in a beautiful dress, please the audience and skate for once, this is a holiday. But doing it every day in training is the hardest part.

Sounds to me like this poor girl is dealing with Covid after-effects, depression, or both.

On the subject of long Covid and the impact it might be having on Aliona, I want to link to a comment I liked a few weeks ago: https://www.another site.com/r/FigureSkating/comments/q7li7c/kostornaia_ss_regression/hgkqcn2/. Hope that's okay to bring here.

Anyway. I wish everyone took a step back and stopped dumping on this poor girl. Maybe read up on long Covid and psychology too. Her coaches being at the top of that list!

At least, DG didn't outright take the bait when asked if this was laziness... But still. This whole interview was pretty messed-up. I'm not surprised she deleted her thank-you post. Good for her, if that allows her to feel at least a little bit of relief, at least for a second... But I know if I were in her shoes, and I were treated that way in such a public manner, I would have more and more trouble dragging myself to that rink...

All Daniil has done is sink Kostornaya's public reputation and politking by doing this. Just further perpetuating the image that has somehow been created that Kostornaya is the lazy diva. This isn't going to help Kostornaya at all - in fact, it is just going to make her disposable in the judges' eyes.

There's something really unsettling about how if these girls start to struggle and stop being oh so perfect little obedient dollies that people reject them.

Of course people as they grow into adulthood (Kostornaya is the oldest at 18) can't tunnel vision like little kids. It's the whole point of life that your world broadens and there are other concerns. The job of the coaches is to help the students do the work and that will need a different approach to the 13 year olds.

I get the impression that Sambo 70 just has so many little kids waiting in the wings who are much easier to direct than an adult with struggles, so why worry too much? The conveyer belt will just shift in a year and there will be a new set of skaters anyway.
