Anna's performance was gorgeous!
She's officially 18, and officially the only active/competing "adult" Eteri skater so far to break the cursed 17 years old "expiration date" as well as keep her ultra-c (4F, and maybe 4 Lz. She is working on 4 Loop, and abandoned the 4T) and all of her triples intact. (I said "adult" because she's 18 so to me still a teenager. Personally, I think 20 is the official non-teenage age). The "Eteri curse" has been officially broken by one skater so far.

C'mon, do you really see any danger for your fingers in this ice princess?

Not mine, no.

Because I am not her competitor, so I have nothing to fear. But just to be sure, I just counted and I still have all 10. Haha
Anna is bleeding during the performance..
Happy Birthday, Shcherbakova!
Yeah, but you didn’t see what the other girl looked like when Anna was done with her. Haha

When you need a streak broken, when you need an alleged curse broken, you just need to turn to a legend.

With the season coming to a close, it was good to see and hear Kamila’s Bolero for possibly the final time in competition. Because of her, you’re hard pressed to find another single piece of music attached to so many positive memories and breathtaking moments.

I, for one, miss it already. Good luck to anyone trying to skate to this in the future.

Kamila‘s version is now the measuring stick, being that her Bolero is attached to the greatest free skate in the history of the sport.

So many positive memories and breathtaking moments? You must not be aware of Torvill and Dean's performances to Bolero throughout the 1983-84 season, including their peak at the Olympics with straight 6.0 marks for artistic excellence. People all over the world count that as the greatest Free Dance ever. I for one never fail to be thrilled by re-watching. One of the reasons it's unique is because of Christopher Dean's extraordinary ability to choreograph it with attention to being technically at the top.

That Torvill/Dean received straight 6.0 in 1984 doesn't exclude that there are "so many positive memories and breathtaking moments" attached with Kami's Bolero in 2020/21 and 2021/22 season. For me there definitely are, even if we would be the only two people on Earth with @alexocfp who feel it that way (which we surely are not ;)).

I am familiar with the names, but I don’t watch this discipline.

And if someone thinks that slow motion Bolero, or the slower than the replay Kostner Bolero is better, I can’t argue that. People can like what they like. That’s the beauty of this sport. Everyone enjoys different things and there is something for everyone.

My bias is out in the open. I’m a jump higher, go faster fan. So my breathtaking moments are a quad toe, euler, triple salchow combo performed 2 plus minutes into a program that had already had a 3A and quad preceding it. How can you stay in your seat after that?

While aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder, technically it’s no contest. And I understand that it’s probably unfair to judge something from a different era using 2022 criteria, but I feel Kamila can skate the Torvill or Koster Bolero at 50% of her skill level at best. I can say with 100 percent certainty that neither Kostner nor Torvill (even in their dreams) couldn‘t replicate Kamila’s skate.

But I do want to close by saying I’m not trying to disrespect nor minimize what Torvill nor Kostner have accomplished. Certainly have done things that not many skaters ever have done even if neither is my cup of tea.

Hmm, now that I reread this, I probably should have left out the “slower than the replay“ part. Haha

But, in my defense, compared to Kamila’s speed most everyone else is slow.

I’m certain we are not.

But maybe, just maybe, Kamila will improve next season. I may need a defibrillator if that’s the case. Haha

Well, I have no idea who these guys from 35 years ago are, but Shoma Uno's version at this WC that is contemporary to Valieva, sure beats anything Valieva could possibly ever conjure. And it is a far, far better version of that dreadful dental chair music.

Urmanov for the win for not just deflecting the 'who was the biggest disappointment' question but shooting it down:

Now can we have him hold media trainings with the other coaches about how to respond to the media? Pretty please

Olympic champion, coach Alexei Urmanov named the best, in his opinion, single skaters of the past season.
- Who was the main disappointment of the season among Russian skaters?
- I have no disappointments at all, because the guys are great fellows.
- Maybe Kostornaya's candidacy is suitable?
I don't think this is a very tactful question. There are athletes who experience some kind of difficulties, for example, psychological or physical. There are difficulties in the relationship with the coach. Anything happens.
It is not my prerogative to blame any of these athletes. That's "I was so disappointed," and to make such criticism. Unfortunately, you've come to the wrong address.

- Can you name the best skater of the season?
– It is also difficult to single out someone. Insofar as I am a former single skater and I relate myself more to single skating. I would still note Anya Shcherbakova. I always praise her. She impresses and likes me very much.
For men, probably Kondratyuk. To a greater extent, as single skaters, I would note these two athletes, - said Urmanov.

Torvill and Dean, they generally get regarded as 1 of the best ice dancing teams, ever - if not the best. And their Bolero has been considered legendary
