2021 Worlds: Pairs' Free Skate

She said “Congrats, you have world champions now” to her. I don’t know if Moskvina will be tolerating this kind of thing, but Boikova seems to be mad that she took on MG at all, and helped them to improve so fast, where they started surpassing BK.

I hope Moskvina reply with: "Oh honey, I've had multiple world and olympic champions before you were even born!" :devilish:

I’m sure she is more angry at herself than she is at Moskvina. She has to know that the errors that led to this result were her own. And she probably feels that she failed her partner as well.
I wonder if part of the upset is that M/G got a new program done by Zhulin and they were still using last year's Free. Maybe they wanted a new free and were denied? I'm woolgathering here but who knows what goes on at the rink.

Just to be clear I'm not hating on S/H here, it's their entitled fans.

No-one deserves a medal simply for showing up.

Yuzuru fans have the same problem, he's amazing, but they're constant whinging about how he deserves +5 and 10 just for stepping on the ice?

Spare me. You're embarrassing yourselves.
They not simply showing up. They delivered their program and it's a masterpiece.
And then, got such a close PCS with Russian juniors, and close PCS with Russians who have major mistakes. They won the SP and the final gap is tiny.

I hope this motivates S/H to fix their issues before the Olympics. Bruno and Aliona didn't win Worlds before the OG either. TBH I'm not sure S/H are all that excited to be entering Worlds - hence the 2 old programs. I hope for the OG, S/H get 2 new programs and deliver without mistakes. It's better they won silver here and fixed their issues than going into the OG expecting to coast on there PCS and then having a shock at the Olympics when they don't get the PCS they were expecting.

I don't know why Sui is always doing a triple Salchow. Maybe another triple would be better...

I do hope that M/G find within themselves or have someone else share with them the wisdom of... em... not going online for the next few... days? Weeks? 🤨 Months? 😳 Whatever the public opinion on them winning is, they're not the ones that put out the scores, they just did their best. Too bad they were not the favourites and internet darlings, so they'll probably get destroyed on social media (this is not me speaking against any other skaters, but rather fans who have difficulty discerning who performs and who gives out the scores, and that maybe, just MAYBE some opinions deserve not to be shared 🙃 )

If you look the scoring trend at this event, the judges have been docking PCS more harshly than usual for < and q.... even though there's nothing in the handbook that indicates < and q should incur a PCS penalty.

Judge #3 gave S/H -5 GOE for the SBS salchow, which is super harsh for no fall or major disruption.
I can see this and this makes me even more upset about selective < and q-calling in all disciplines because this means people who ARE getting called for it are essentially being penalized twice.

I think S/H fans think more M/G were overscored in PCS instead of S/H being robbed, though?
Based on WHAT?

I watched M/G and they were so good it broke my heart for T/M.

I can accept that T/M aren't ever going to win Worlds or Olympics it's a bitter pill to swallow.

S/H have two World golds, an Olympic silver AND are the undoubted favourites for 2022.

I mean geeze, for real?! I would give anything ANYTHING for T/M to have even half S/H success.

It's pure entitled greed from their fans and it's gross to watch.

I'm having weird flashbacks to when D/R won and the double standards of some people's arguments.

I'm okay with M/G winning. I think they were overscored in PCS.

Get it out folks. Vent if you need to. We have three more events and chances are there will be more people outraged.
It's okay to vent, but not on the skaters. M/G just did their job. It's not their fault judges in all disciplines sometimes don't...

I don't understand why anyone would take a comment that was made in the heat of the moment (which would have been a devastating one for B/K no doubt) and then imply that she is rude, or ungrateful, or a brat? I'm sure Moskvina knows her personality and knows how she deals with things. We don't - so I don't think its fair to paint Sasha as something she has never shown herself to be? Teams like B/K don't enter Worlds wanting to lose and so their upset and anguish is valid imo.

Didn‘t he tell her she was too fat for him and dumped her? If so, give him all the pettiness and more. Hope he was watching today.
He was struggling with her weight yes. It was also a height issue to where they were too closely matched. It wasn't healthy for her to lose more weight. He was looking for a new partner, but their coach herself said it was "unrealistic" for them to continue. So they finished the season and then broke up.

Actually super similar to K/I - also coached by the same coaches, at the time.

That is how I felt. It could have gone either way. I would have preferred S/H winning but I'm not horrified at M/G. It's not like some other upsets I've seen.
I agree with this general sentiment, although I think it just wears you down after a number of years because when was the last time a skater/team from a less powerful fed won one of these tossups?

It's okay to vent, but not on the skaters. M/G just did their job. It's not their fault judges in all disciplines sometimes don't...
I agree. M/G did a terrific job. Did I enjoy the artistry of their skate as much as S/H? No I did not. Others might feel differently. I still think M/G were, in all likelihood the correct winners.

Sui needs to get a second triple. B/K need a new Free as they have outgrown this one.

I also think it's important to see the amount of competition readiness M/G and B/K had vs S/H. I think that too made a difference.

Why do I always have to root for the Zhenyas in situations like these.:tantrum::cry:

Well, I hope B/K get mad and come back really strongly next season.
While I totally understood Zhenya's bitterness and her decision to change coaches (it had much to do with the lack of longevity in ladies field: that was her "now or never", and she was already 2 times world champion), here I'm less sympathetic. Yes, it is an absolutely natural human reaction, so I understand them in this sense. But they are so young, haven't accomplish very much yet - and pairs tend to compete until their 30s. They should be really happy about their first worlds medal. Maybe they will, and that was only a moment of weakness. I gues we will see (a transfer to Mozer anyone?).
