2021 Worlds: Pairs' Free Skate

I don't know whether anyone here remember many years ago judges began to treat VT and SS vast differently a year before Sochi, and force SS lost even before they began to compete. I still remembered the tears of Aliona that year, as a soldier, she was not be allowed to fight.
That's what Russian kept trying to do when they have some potential competitors. We got to use it, but it sucks.
This is what I felt when SH did everything they could today with those overscored Russian skaters (not only M/G, but also T/M, with huge GOE for the hand-downs, that radiculous PCS). This reminds me of what Russian did before and on Sochi for the pairs. And unluckily, I felt kind of this tradedy will be onto S/H next year.

So pairs spots for the olympics should be
Russia keeps 3
China gets 3 (one has to be reeaned at Nebelhorn)
Canada keeps 2
US keeps 2
Italy keeps 2
Japan gets 2 (one has to be reearned)
That is 14 spots meaning
Austria gets 1
Germany gets 1

Then there will be 3 spots +2 available at Nebelhorn. (Im confused why would you have 16 +3 participants at the olympics and not 16+4 to have 5 full warm up groups?)

PS. I hope Ive understood the rules correctly

I do hope that M/G find within themselves or have someone else share with them the wisdom of... em... not going online for the next few... days? Weeks? 🤨 Months? 😳 Whatever the public opinion on them winning is, they're not the ones that put out the scores, they just did their best. Too bad they were not the favourites and internet darlings, so they'll probably get destroyed on social media (this is not me speaking against any other skaters, but rather fans who have difficulty discerning who performs and who gives out the scores, and that maybe, just MAYBE some opinions deserve not to be shared 🙃 )
M/G are more popular than B/K in Russia due to some past behaviour by Kozlovski which led people to believe he is way too full of himself. Galliamov at least has always been gracious publicly.

And the bile being spewed at M/G!

Some of you are acting like they can't skate at all!

This is the happiest day of their lives and you S/H fans are acting like complete and utter brats

How dare you, how DARE you.

You should be ashamed.

I agree. M/G did a terrific job. Did I enjoy the artistry of their skate as much as S/H? No I did not. Others might feel differently. I still think M/G were, in all likelihood the correct winners.

Sui needs to get a second triple. B/K need a new Free as they have outgrown this one.

I also think it's important to see the amount of competition readiness M/G and B/K had vs S/H. I think that too made a difference.
Since when juniors should win when skating clean only once in the international competitions, especially when those seniors also skate almost clean? Are we talking about the figure skating?
Or, ok, maybe the last one I remembered is AS, who also from Russian.

China's host spot? (but they already got 3, so is that one also thrown back into the pile?)

This is a major starla19 moment, if you know what I mean 😂 I can already hear her saying “I told you so”

Just to be clear I'm not hating on S/H here, it's their entitled fans.

No-one deserves a medal simply for showing up.

Yuzuru fans have the same problem, he's amazing, but they're constant whinging about how he deserves +5 and 10 just for stepping on the ice?

Spare me. You're embarrassing yourselves.
Not hating on S/H? You bash them every chance you get and even get mad when others enjoy them, bringing down the mood every time. Their fans have been incredibly kind and understanding towards you and your disappointment about your favorites, yet now you're coming after them too. Muting you now, good riddance.

I agree with this general sentiment, although I think it just wears you down after a number of years because when was the last time a skater/team from a less powerful fed won one of these tossups?
The German team won in 2018.

Big feds are always going to have more power. That is an unfortunate truth. China isn't a small fed though. This isn't like when Javi was skating and the Spanish fed could do nothing for him.

While I totally understood Zhenya's bitterness and her decision to change coaches (it had much to do with the lack of longevity in ladies field: that was her "now or never", and she was already 2 times world champion), here I'm less sympathetic. Yes, it is an absolutely natural human reaction, so I understand them in this sense. But they are so young, haven't accomplish very much yet - and pairs tend to compete until their 30s. They should be really happy about their first worlds medal. Maybe they will, and that was only a moment of weakness. I gues we will see (a transfer to Mozer anyone?).

Well, honestly anyone who crucifies them must be a better person than me. I‘ve been salty for less dramatic things than losing Worlds. Was it in bad taste? Sure. But they‘re young and not everyone can hold their emotions in check during situations like these. They‘ll learn. I hope they don‘t change coaches, though. They had such a great season last year and M/G will have to deal with the pressure of being the favorites now first. Too early to throw in the towel.

The lack of discernment from the judges between the teams in regards to SS, choreo, and you know, the specific 5 criteria PCS is actually based on is ridiculous. It's just laughable because past multi-WCs got S/H's pcs here with multiple splats. S/H's scores were accurate; I think the others were too high. M/G deserved to win, to be clear. I just wish the specific scores would be in the vague realm of accuracy if they were going to supposedly distinguish between SS, TR, PE, CO, and IN. But, same old, same old...
Congrats to the clean and mostly-clean teams today, especially the lower ranked teams that put out PBs!!
Agree, would prefer M/G placing ahead of S/H but with lower PCS than they got. That said, I might give a bigger TES gap between M/G and S/H because there is a very clear difference in the quality and difficulty in their SBS jumps, while all the other elements are comparable (S/H have smoother lifts, but M/G's 3S-1Eu-3s should outweigh that especially with Sui's URs). Which would overall lead to about the same gap in total scores that we see here.

Yes, the last 3 warm-up groups were all great! I managed to catch the event live around the time Walsh/Michaud skated and it was a nailbiter. Moore-Towers/Marinaro made an admirable comeback and Miura/Kihara are arguably the best Japanese pairs team ever (competition was lower in Takahashi/Tran's time). Ziegler/Kiefer's skate was also very uplifting. Sorry to see Tarasova/Morozov and Peng/Jin defeated by the SBS jumps though.

Sui needs to get that second triple. Now with 2 Russian ladies who can do triple jumps easily it's points they can't afford to give away. The second triple has always been Sui's nemesis.

Wonder if they could have just done a clean SBS 2A with positive GOE. I mean, it's not a good long term plan, but that could have been enough to win today.

I hope this motivates S/H to fix their issues before the Olympics. Bruno and Aliona didn't win Worlds before the OG either. TBH I'm not sure S/H are all that excited to be entering Worlds - hence the 2 old programs. I hope for the OG, S/H get 2 new programs and deliver without mistakes. It's better they won silver here and fixed their issues than going into the OG expecting to coast on there PCS and then having a shock at the Olympics when they don't get the PCS they were expecting.

I don't know why Sui is always doing a triple Salchow. Maybe another triple would be better...
I am rather glad it happens now than the Olympic year. The recycled program probably due to Han’s hip surgery last year and they lost time on training. But I am hoping now they saw what the competitors are doing and how well they stack against them will help them prepare for the Olympics.

Oh, interesting, I didn't think of that one because I'm just a Chinese fan who actually thought Sui/Han just lost that one and it wasn't a tossup

why do you insist on calling them juniors? I mean besides to try to diminish them

Wait do China get an extra host spot? I guess it would make sense in a dicipline where they have no qualified competitor but since they now have 2 deffinite spots and the cance to get a 3rd spot I guess that spot should get awarded to the 6th finisher at Nebelhorn?

And I'm gonna get in trouble but I don't care.

Are you S/H fans gonna take a leaf out of the Yuna Kim fan's book?

Will M/G have to deal with SIX YEARS OF CONSTANT ABUSE for bearing your precious pair like Adelina Sotnikova?

Have the death threats started yet?

Nothing would surprised me anymore.
