I woke up at 3am to watch this, and I haven't yawned or checked the time once in 4 hours. What a thrilling event, with so many incredible skaters to root for. Whoever makes what teams, Japan is exploding with talent and positivity, and they should all be proud <3
Well done ladies! This was much better than the SP.
As for the assignments, well, fourth place always goes to 4CC so Chiba will be selected. That’s the only assignment that is set in stone. And obviously Sakamoto and Mihara are going to Worlds.
Nakai should go to Junior Worlds, but we’ll see how the Fed plays this.
The third spot is very up-in-the-air. Hana and Mone are the two highest age-eligible skaters, but they both tend to be cacti. Then, it's Yuna and Mana, both of whom aren't that consistent. So, in 11th and 12th, we have Rinka and Rika. I believe Rinka is one of few skaters who fits the criteria for Worlds selection. However, you could also make a good case for Rika, especially if she gets her lutz back by Worlds. My guess is Kaori, Mai, Rinka, but who knows?
Yay! Mai and Kaori! Kaori skates with so much attack and she scored 233 at last year Nationals too…
She needs to fix that final spin is my only suggestion for improvement for Kaori! These two will be at Worlds. Finally!
From people’s discussions, it should be:
WC - Kaori, Mai, Rinka (did Rinka even finish in the top 12?); not sure I agree with Rinka going.
JWC - Mao, Ami (Mone and Hana were so close, but, I’m glad Ami got it as she skated gutsy with her two 3A’s)
4CC - Will Kaori and Mai go? Mone was the highest Senior. I would love it, if at least she gets this event. Please make it happen
This leaves Hana just out of contention, which is kinda sad, cause she had a great season. But, the above selections at least allow us to see six of Japan’s top skaters at the three most important competitions of the year.
Also, what I love about Japan, is that these two 20+ ladies were miles ahead of the Junior Girls. This makes it interesting to see how the Juniors slowly progress to catch these two.
