He was here, but in the stands. If you remember his June interview, he said that he wanted to use this season as a time for foot surgery because he had a genetical problem.

He's now back to training. Recovery will take time. He's working on a new FS, the choreographer is Kirill Aleshin.



What I wonder is where Lazuking is.

Thanks for sharing! So Matvei went for the surgery after all. It's probably the right time for it anyway. Still, I hope to see him skate in the CupGP series, he's got a Cup final medal to defend.

Same goes for Lazukin. I'll always remember him at 2019 Worlds. He was so good, and I thought it would be his breakthrough performance for sure. And then he got injured. :( But in his last interview he sounded motivated to continue. Weird that he was a no-show at test skates and that there is radio silence from his team. I also checked the SPB team roster, he's still listed in the reserves.

And Nastya Guliakova retired, I take it?

really interested to see how Semion will do now that he is with Mishin, last season definitely did not go according to plans for him as he has to miss most of it.
 
Veronica Zhilina is competing this week (Sep 14-15) at the first stage of N. Novgorod cup in KMS category: http://dz-led.ru/2223/NN092022/
I wonder why, her coaches must have decided that she needs more competition practice.
Actually, Plushenko is sending several other skates to this competition as well: Sophia, Nikita and Kirill Sarnovskiys, Kira Trofimova and Milana Goritskova.
I hope they will not end up withdrawing at the last moment.

Cup of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

A lot of the regions in Russia have their own cup series in figure skating, just like the St. Petersburg Cup (First stage on September 20-23) or Moscow Cup (First stage on September 22-24). Generally, top skaters rarely are entered into the other Cups, particularly if they're not from there/training there.

I'm not sure, but I think they were sometimes used to determine who will be sent to the Russian Cup series in the past (particularly in Juniors), or as an alternative for less highly ranked skaters/skaters not yet age-eligible for the Russian Cup series (particularly in Moscow).

Milana is from Nizhny Novgorod, right? So I guess it's convenient to take some of the other AoP skaters for a bit of an "easy" competition at the beginning of the season in addition to her. Are they all training in the same group?

I've noticed that the Sarnovskiys have moved to the same group as Nika (Alexander Abt's group), but I was under the impression that both Kira and Milana were still training under Dmitrii Mikhailov and Sergei Alekseev.

More competitions are probably good for her some kind of nerves appear to hit her she's placed poorly at the last 2 junior nationals and at the cup final she did poorly in the SP and has gotten saved because she can do multiple quads - can she afford to have poor showings again this year and still manage to get on the national team.
 
I wish they would have her compete with no quads or 1 quad for few of these easy comps, so she could go clean and raise her confidence a little.
