Im still very shocked no big name coach have yet recruited Pulina, her potential is huge even if she isnt going for the hardest of layouts here.
 
Oh Alena... she was and still is very talented but puberty really wasn't kind to her, she grew so much taller and her body changed a lot in such a small amount of time and she never managed to really recover from that:console:

thanks, yeah I meant Kutavoi. I think I read about that somewhere during jr nats. Well hopefully everything works out for Kutavoi he is such a special skater.

I also didn't say good technique (though that would of course be ideal), I said different technique. Techniques can be bad in different ways, and thus affect a certain body type differently. A low pick ("full blade" take-off - Apart from some exceptions most skaters don't actually drop their full blade, and even fewer skaters don't pick at all) is going to make a jump smaller, but a powerful jumper is not going to have issues with height even then. A technique relying on the twist of the upper body, however, is not going to work for a broader skater in most cases, as they experience more air resistance and can't achieve the high rotational speed necessary to get around fully. Also, it's not just jumping technique that will affect the size and consistency of jumps. Kaori (like most Japanese skaters), has very good skating skills that allow her to efficiently build speed, which allows for bigger jumps with a body type like hers (That's the reason her 2A is so extremely long even though the height is not necessarily exceptional - Difference to Liza who is much slower but gets much more height and less length on her Axels).

Good, i though you were talking about "correct" technique.
And Sakamoto doesn't have a jump with exceptional size imo, even the 2A, 3S and 3lo. They have exceptional length, because of the speed you talked about. She isn't a vertical jumper like Tuktik or Higuchi. When i think about a 3lo with exceptional size, i see Anna Pezetta's 3lo.
But average height + great length is visually more wow it seems.
 
If it wasn't for that pop this would have been an amazing sp for Valeria either way this is the best she has skated in ages. She is another victim of puberty but this short somewhat gives me hope of a comeback.

While correct technique is usually the best thing to teach skaters, in this case, I was just thinking about technique that works for a skater. Would I prefer correct technique? Yes, but in some cases you have to settle for technique that works. Sakamoto's technique, while not good, is at least sustainable, while for example Samodelkina's technique bothers me much more - Not just because it's not correct, but also because it clearly was never meant to work for her current body. Her jumps didn't lose height, but her rotation speed slowed down as she grew up, and the height is often not good enough to make up for that anymore, unfortunately.

I know size is often used to describe just the height by many (if not most) figure skating fans and commentators, and I get why, but here I mean size in both height and length.

An exceptionally long and averagely high jump is also big to me, just in a very different way than for example Tuktamysheva's very high but often short jumps. Jumping over 3m in a 2A is no joke, even if you are as fast as Kaori. Wakaba for example can be just as fast as Kaori (or even faster), but her jumps are very different than Kaori's. And yes, great length often looks visually more pleasing because a bigger horizontal movement translates more easily to a controlled running edge upon landing than a bigger vertical movement.

Ivan looks a little tired, but he handled it like a professional. I was very worried about his recovery from his ankle injury, surgery, and rapid growth, but he did surprisingly well. He kept his 3A, moreover, the axel is more stable than it was last season. His non-jumping elements, choreography, and musicality are very good, especially for a junior. He's very good, really. I hope for his recovery in the summer and maybe a technical breakthrough with the new quad? Let's not forget that he is only 13 y.o.
