2022 Olympics: Men's Free Skate

That was the first time I've really enjoyed a Nathan program. I've always appreciated his skating, but it's never drawn me in emotionally until today. I think it was the mistake and the smile and just his sheer happiness, but I couldn't help but feel so happy for him and that program. It suits him so well! And the 4Lz on the music is absolutely brilliant. I think this might be the last time we see Nathan skate... he's taking a break after this season and I don't know if he'll come back. But if so, what a way to go out.

I never thought I'd see the day where Nathan Chen made me cry, but here we are (it does not help I am ridiculously hormonal).

Just ..have to ..say... who else became the Olympic champion ...while studying to be a doctor at Yale? I mean.... Nathan is stellar in whatever way you decide to define him and deserves the best. FWIW: he's stated he can hardly wait to get back to the library at Yale. Plus plays classical piano. In case you're concerned about anyone being solo / one / dimensional . Speaking as a late bloomer getting my BA years after others - it ain't easy.
Dr. Tenley Albright won the silver medal in 1952 and the gold in 1956 while attending Radcliffe College. She graduated the same year she won the Olympics and then graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1961.

I couldn't sleep (*waves fist at migraine*).

Nathan: 😍 at seeing him give good face during his program. The detractors on this board really do not have an understanding of hip hop dancing styles. I'm 56 years old, and even I can recognize the style as valid (maybe he could give an ice dance team some pointers for next year).

Jason: Up until the one combo jump, he was right there in the running for 4th. TWO POINTS and he would have finished higher than Yuzu. Crazy. He wins the 🏅for lurking/taking advantage of of quadkids borking their jumps. Never count the Jason out...until he retires. Pity that pro competitions aren't really a thing any more.

Shoma and Yuma: They're both so freaking adorable. Yuma looks like he can't believe his luck finishing right up there with his role models. I remember when Shoma first started popping up internationally, and I exclaimed, "He walked straight out of an anime!" (something about his eyes). I predict some major battles between Yuma and Ilia over the next quad.

Night as a whole: Bumpy ride. Nice camaraderie between Nathan/Shomo/Yuma in the KnC. I'd like to think there's a great deal of respect between all of these top men.

Now we buckle up again to await the IOC decision on THAT question.

Well while it was not quite as stellar as the short program, it was still a magical night of skating. And it was a genuine pleasure to share it with the people on this board. Twas a real treat for me, since most of my family and friends are the epitome of Beyond Casual Skating Fans. Wayyyyyyy beyond.

:thank:
So happy you were watching and chatting with us. A very pleasant surprise. Best always to your family.

Yuma and Shoma were a bit tense, Shoma especially. I'm really glad Yuma managed to handle the nerves, his landings weren't quite as good as they normally are but if that's how he displays Olympics pressure then . I'm so glad they ended up on the podium, they have both been so strong this season and have shown so much growth from the past. It hasn't really sunk in for me that they are Olympic medalists.... but it sure has that Nathan won the gold. I have no idea what's wrong with me, although I highly suspect it's too much chocolate.

I was screaming happy and clapping for Nathan. I am so glad he was more relaxed and mentally prepared for these Games. He really looked like he was having fun! The story started at 3 years old and has a happy ending. Love this program. Also I loved how truly sportsmanlike he was with Shoma and Yuma in the Men's Olympic lounge. I admired Yuzu for attempting the 4A. Oh and Jason going entirely quadless, yes! The whole last flight of men was wonderful and exciting to watch, great skating!

I know, right?! Lol

I thought: NBC must be so pleased that Nathan won!

I need to wind down. I have to get up in not too many hours…..
Sympathies! If it helps, you have company. I have to get up for an early conference call with one of my least favorite colleagues. Grrr...

I think he will toss a coin to see if he wants to go to worlds....He already has his ticket punched for the Hall of Fame....he will do Stars on Ice and then I think its off to skool.
