2022 Olympics: Women's Free Skate

and why should teenagers that are forced to their breaking points and have such huge pressure on them endure years of whatever training eteri does with them , who basically installs the belief in her skaters that nothing but gold is worthy of something, not show their emotions? actually it shows why we need ao raise the age, because this is what happens if you put teenagers through too much!
She's perfectly within her rights to show her emotions. But when you do that in public people watching are perfectly within their rights to comment on it. Just like you did.

Why is there no sports psychologist on Eteri’s team, especially given increased media? They shoul’ve brought one in. Also, there is something called good sportmanship, Trusova failed at that.

Finally, i don’t get why Russian press and people like Zhulin are saying that IOC and Wada “broke” or “killed” Valieva. They simply tried to sort out the matter, and they are the ones who wanted her not to compete. In that case, she wouldn’t have had to endure this mess in front of entire world. It’s sad the Russians don’t actually look at facts, but blame others…

Watching this unfold has been heartbreaking
What is the Russian federation doing to the children?? It’s heartbreaking

Kamila- so young and now is her career ruined and already over? I hope not. She’s one of the best skaters I’ve seen, and I’ve been a fan for much longer than the Russians have dominated. I sincerely hope someone is going to help her through this traumatic experience and that we see her competing again. So hard to see her breaking down in tears in the kiss and cry. She became the face of something she didn’t ask for, and no matter how you feel about her being allowed to compete, at the end of the day she is still a young girl who just wanted to skate Please get her into a better environment.

Sasha- I admire her. 5 quads. She is AMAZING. Am I shocked she lashed out? Maybe a little, but she is 17. She, herself, is still a child. She said “you knew”—I wonder what that means and I think she is very courageous to say this to her coach. Of course she thought she won. She landed FIVE quads. I would’ve given her the gold.
Also..::she’s not a brat. She, and these other girls, are victims of an extremely toxic environment. It’s clear these girls aren’t friends. They are rivals each determined to win the gold at any cost.

Anna- not really a surprise to anyone that she won the gold. Always rumored to be the federation favorite. Her lack of emotion speaks volumes. Anna the compliant young girl that doesn’t make a fuss.

Painful. Hard to watch. I guess the Russians really did bring the drama. I just hope someone is there for these children.

This ladies event has really been a let down. Heartbreaking.

Alexandra told Eteri "You knew everything. I hate all of you!"

I agree with all of this. There was no good way for any of this to end. Anna and Sasha are incredible skaters, and seeing them rise to the moment despite this incredibly horrible and stressful week showed their incredible strength as athletes and competitors, but also the system that have trained them within an inch of their lives. Kamila completely broke my heart, I hope she's back home with people who make her feel loved and supported right now.

"you knew" indeed. Am I the only one who thought that Eteri could have had Kamila take a so she was ensured a gold and a silver? I don't put it past her. She knew that Kamila was being provided banned substances? I hope this all comes out in the wash, and we don't all move on now that Kamila didn't win.

I’m just now getting to watch this. So glad Mariah and her walker were able to make it out onto the ice to create that beautiful moment. Adam’s crying, she’s crying, I’m crying, it’s a sin there’s no audience. If a skate like that can’t at least be close to a medal (which I’m sure it wasn’t) the scoring system is broken.
I was touched also by Mariah.

She said “you knew”—I wonder what that means
I feel like they promised her when she came back that she would get her 5 quads and maybe even promised her that that would be the day she won.

But the truth was...if either Anna or Kamila skated as good as they usually do - and Anna did - she still wouldn't her PCS's aren't good enough. Eteri and at least Danill would have known, they put the programs together they know the points system inside and out. But they either didn't bother to tell her this or didn't make it clear enough.

Imagine how that must have felt to complete the hardest program a woman - and most men have ever done and it STILL falling short.

I would have collapsed on the floor, curled up in a ball and never gotten up 😞

My favorite performances of the night were Kaori, Wakaba, and Anna. I'm really happy for Anna's Olympic Gold and Kaori's Bronze. I wasn't expecting it, and it was bittersweet as I felt terrible watching both Kamila and Sasha breakdown afterwards. I wish one of Anna's coaches had gone to hug her sooner, rather than leaving her alone and looking unsure of what she was supposed to do. It was like Alina in 2018 but 1000x worse. As usual, everyone underestimated Anna and she delivered when it mattered the most. I still remember the press conference after Russian Nationals, when she was asked why she deserved to go to the Olympics.

I was worried after Kaori's perfect SP that she wouldn't be able to deliver again in the FS, and was happy to be proven wrong. She looked so thrilled and overwhelmed with emotion afterwards. It was lovely to see Wakaba hug her and support her afterwards.
I was also very impressed with Young You's performance, and would have scored both her and Wakaba much higher.
People keep saying the age limit needs to be raised (and I agree with this given recent events) but the judging also needs to be seriously reformed. If there had been fair judging throughout, then maybe Sasha wouldn't have been so outraged that even a 5 quad program couldn't get her the gold medal when she is severely lacking in other areas. I do appreciate that Plushenko was trying to improve her skating skills and artistry, and wonder how she could develop if she had spent another season there.

Maybe because a night in Beijing, 3 am .. whole team wants back to the hotel, but all of them waitig Trusova ?? Eteri must deliver all the girls to the hotel , she is responsible person
As someone who has had to corral teenage girls, I empathize with Eteri here. Trusova is a minor under her care. Getting her back to the hotel is the responsible thing to do.

Still if you need to yell at the said teenager at your care to achieve that it means something has been not quite right for a long while.
Indeed. And is it really surprising Sasha didn't want to go with Eteri? The Russian Olympic Committee people couldn't find another adult in their entourage who could have accompanied Sasha back to the Village?

Can you blame her, Eteri probably bitched at her the whole way home too - which fortunately as I understand it was only a few minutes.

I would've loved to have seen a Trusova win here but I think a 5 point difference in PCS between her and Anna
is more than fair, also she lost a number of GOE opportunities
I mean Trusova get 177 point in the free and has called every single thing she has error like has called ! On her 4F and "q" on some of her jump

But Anna is no called for her error? Her 4Lutz & 3Lutz3L is complete wrong edge and no called?...... this is bias

Also what really grinds my gears... exaggeration.

I watched Sasha skate, after seeing a whole lot of comments that said she looked down at the ice the whole time and didn't do anything but jump?

OK then, so the spins, the step sequence, the cantilever, the look right at the judges? Did I hallucinate that?

By all means critique a person's skate, but don't tell bald face lies. It's insulting.

It's as bad as saying "Jason Brown doesn't quad jump so everything he does is easier."

Indeed, it is. Hey flutz never gets called neither do her URs But, Anna has always gotten this type of favoritism from the judges so it's no surprise. The PCS for both was a joke but a 5 point difference in PCS was certainly warranted. However, to me all of this is so inconsequential.

Despite the fact that 3 medals will be awarded, there were no winners ( well, maybe Kaori the only grown woman on the podium, she looked happy.) We all lost. The young women all responded in different ways but they had all reached their breaking points after years of abuse, doping, overtraining, and deprivation. I didn't watch this event and I won't be watching women's figure skating again until the age limit is raised and the coaches responsible for this are gone. The whole situation is heartbreaking and it's so upsetting that the Rusfed seems only too happy to try to pin this on others rather than accepting responsibility and making needed changes. Just poor kids, poor Kamila, poor Anna, poor Sasha. Victims of abuse.
