2023-2024 Russian Nationals Jumping Championships

It was a trace amount of a common medication in Russia that according to experts provides no athletic benefit. We will find out by February 14 what happened, and if she is a horrible person that took it intentionally, then I hope you can find it within yourself to forgive a child who was 15 at the time. Have some compassion for her and everything she has been through for 2 years. You wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy.
The second of 2 (!) heart medications she was on at 15 (!), both found in that sample. Hardly sounds pure as ice or make her results not sus. Also, never requested second sample tested. Also not sus.

I have an unexpected question. If there is a pandemic again, for which we are being actively prepared, and all Grand Prix competitions are canceled, as well as all championships, except national championships, how will we know who is the best?

If it is an old person's disease like COVID, then it should just go ahead as normal and the old coaches and spectators stay at home. The healthy 15 year old figure skaters will be fine.

I won't touch on the political issues, the suspension and the Valieva case, but damn it, Trusova, Shcherbakova and Kostornaya were left without several titles, including at the World Championships, simply because the championships were canceled. A lot of juniors suffered from canceled grand prix finals and so on. Is it fair to compare them in terms of titles to athletes who competed in a quieter era?

Uh, what? He only had side characters. In these shows there were also Semenenko, Ignatov, Muravieva, Frolova, Sinitsyna, a bunch of AoP juniors. All of them are semi-retired???
Perhaps Muravyeva and Semenenko are young enough to combine appearing on the show and intensive training. But Aliev doesn't seem like that kind of guy. And yes, I was talking exclusively about him.

I know, but still...wild as in wild for everyone, or was Popov's realistic while Semeneko's from fantasy la-la-land or does Semenenko actually jumps better than Popov? It is something that a jumping tournament really focuses on, the quality of the jump.

Don't ask me, I love Semenenko and will not be without bias. But I think the only thing that's actually worse in Semenenko's technique than in most other skaters are some of his landings on the quads when he tries to fully rotate them. That's when his nose is almost on the ice and it looks funny.
Otherwise, he doesn't have textbook technique on some of his jumps and his lutz is, ehm, not great, but overall it's not worse than most skaters.
His axel is very good, his 4Lo is great. And his landings in this event today were nothing to complain about, although he did that weird movement in the end to catch himself, but he didn't have his nose down today. So... no need to pick on him. :party2:

Did all the "big name skaters" get an advantage here in my eyes? Yeah, they did. So, yeah, likely Popov deserved better, but leave my, uh, AlexBreeze's, guy alone.

You already know that at the first problems all possible activities will be canceled. At best, the World Cup and the Olympics will be saved

We had seen the 3A in competition. Honestly, if the Russian system allowed for a 1-2 year pause in a career before resumption (or transfers, lol) we would have still be seeing them in the competitions...like we are seeing Kostornaya--and all respect to her.

No-one has lost out more than all those skaters from COVID and then the blanket ban of Russia, but what has happened to Valieva is probably cruelest of all. Whatever the result next month, she's had two years taken from her anyway living in limbo. All this as a child, and at the peak of her powers as a skater.

But they all have titles that are left on the table. If COVID didn't come and the then blanket ban, these would be the most titled skaters in history. It is very cruel, and outside of Russia no-one feels any pain for them. In fact, I think many people kind of enjoy it that they missed out.

Each generation brings new heroes, and maybe after a 1-2 year pause, it won't make sense for them to come back.

Not this again.

This is how manipulative the media have been from the start.

She never had two other heart medications in her system.

She had declared L-carnitine which is a common supplement for athletes and Hypoxen which to me seems like a harmless/useless supplement. They are both legal and declared to WADA.

That's why athletes take supplements. To increase athletic performance. Otherwise they wouldn't take it.
They said themselves in a testimony that Valieva took Hypoxen to deal with heart irregularities. L-carnitine is a common supplement. 2 heart meds are not.

Sure, Russia makes transfers difficult, but where is the will, there is a way.
Yeah and before there is a way i can't take GP series, euros and worlds seriously. Knowing that these are the competitions that make a resume shine.
Actually the most relevant comps for me are seniors B (and 4CC since the current situation has no impact on it). I can watch that. Also because i usually discover less known skaters.

He always has this problem on the +3T combos. On his solo 4Ts and 4Ss it depends on his shape, pressure, etc. Reminds me times when Liza had to add three turns to her jumps.

and his lutz is, ehm, not great
This is why we haven't seen it since juniors.

A lot of women athlets who take that pause have fantastic results in seniors after the growth issue stabilize. It's less of a gamble than hoping for a single year to achieve. In my view, of course. Removing 3A from competition didn't really result in stronger athlets doing seniors in Russia.

This thread. As a mod I'd probably delete it completely.

I guess we're about to get into trouble 😅
And it all started with a discussion of a cascade of two quads and 1Eu from a 12 year old little girl.
God, if Mozalev doesn't get mad at the rink and start jumping incredible quads, I don't know, he's really going to have to change his life and come up with some other way. He should be incredibly motivated around them.

Very likely. I will take a ban if I have to for the ability to say what I am thinking. It's been too long and Russians are doubling down on their mistakes instead of making amends. Technically, this thread doesn’t have the boiler plate warning.
