2023-24 French Championships

I hope I can catch the LPs tomorrow too... if it's around this time, it may work out ;)

I am happy there are two great French male skaters right now... Reminds me of years ago when Éric Millot and Philippe Candeloro were competing.

Commentator says his program was qualified as divine.

Adam says NO : )
Adam says that it's the first time he tried both the quad lutz and the quad flip in the SP ... in preparation for Euros.

Commentator says he is in the lead... he says that he has a short lead but all we will be played in the long.

He says that the return from China is brutal. And this is reset now at French Championships.

My thoughts : I like his voice and his down to earth banter

Wow, Adam's voice sounds nice. 😊 I wonder what he just said...

Lol, thanks for the translation, I'm glad a French speaker thinks his voice sounds nice too. 😍

I shut down the steam and missed the interview :palmf:

6 to 8 am my time is a nonstarter for me for the free. (or is it 7 to 9? Same difference). Hope the streams are preserved.

wow ... that score... let's just say that if that were in Canadian Nationals, it would be about 10 points lower if not more.

I'm not sure if you're referring to Adam or to Kevin. But in either case... the "Nationals Bump" is a bit over the top. Adam almost scored 100.

It was referring to Kévin because if I recall he did a 3a, 3t-3t (instead of 4t-3t) and a 3lz

So this is the easiest 3-3 combo in skating that some juniors do... yet he scored 93 whopping points. We see guys land two quad SP with a 3a barely reach 80. I am not even talking about the PCS here which I don't care if they are high when it comes to Adam and Kévin. They both skated with passion and overall great skating skills... but the GOE must have been gigantic for Kévin to get this score.

Adam did get almost 100 right. This is high too... but he did attempt 4lz- 4f-2t and 3a. With those two exotic quads and he stayed on his feet, it's more understandable... Mind you the combo had a 3 turn and the lutz's landing was dubious... I bet it may have scored a q with some TPs (didn't look the French protocols).

So yeah... nationals is interesting... There are some countries who love rewarding their skaters and some who are very stingy.

I can assure you, that if Canadian Nationals follow the trend at Challenge of a couple weeks ago, fans may start to call it home uncooking or something weird... Someone needs to coin a new term for this.

US Nationals is pretty famous/infamous for overscoring. Never been a fan of that, and I don't really see the point. The "trying to send the skater to Worlds with a big score" rationale is ridiculous. It's not like everyone doesn't see how the athlete really performed. It's not just the GOE, either. At some events, it's as if a tech caller isn't even in the arena.

On the plus side, the podiums are generally correct at the end of the day.

Again, commentators are not sure about the jumps done and their rotation. I wonder who they are.

At the start of yesterday's coverage, one of the commentators (the guy who did the post-competition interviews) did an on-screen introduction. And the on-screen graphic said he was Olivier Jacquemin. Now, when I looked up his name, I found that he is one of these people that commentates on anything and everything.

I don't know who was sitting beside him in the commentary box. But there were credits at the end of Saturday's coverage, and the commentators were listed. Here are the names, along with my description of them:

  • Olivier Jacquemin [general sport commentator]
  • Fabrice Blondel [Ice Dancer]
  • Maxime Combes [Pairs Skater]
  • Alexis Sodogas [Short Track Speed Skater]
  • Florent Amodio [Men's Skater]

Whether any of them, or somebody different, was doing the Men's SP coverage with Olivier, I don't know. But, given what you said about them, I really hope it wasn't Amodio!

I was just starting to write up my report about the Pairs FS for Camille and Pavel's Fan Fest, and I noticed something.

Lori-Ann MATTE / Noël-Antoine PIERRE (PFV) have disappeared from the Entries / Results page. 😲

And I mean completely disappeared. They are not in the results table for either the SP or FS, and they are not in the Entries list either.

They are still in the Protocols, though.

I hope it is just a glitch in the page, perhaps due to the two PFV teams scoring the exact same points overall. I really hope that it is not the case that something untoward is going on.

Lori-Ann and Noël-Antoine were 4th in the SP with 44.57 points; 3rd in the FS with 95.09 points; and 3rd overall with 139.66 points.

Lori-Ann likely hasn't received either a release from Skate canada or special permission to perform at foreign National championships, ergo they'd have to skate outside of competition and can't appear on the official results page.

And now. The end is here. And so we face. The final curtain.

We finish with chaos! 13 boys, arranged into a group of 7; followed by a group of 6.
