I honestly can't imagine how those two pieces of music could be edited together.

Such a strange combination.
Moonlight sonata is super easy to blend ... steady and repetitive rhythmic pattern and simple harmonic progression... on top of that, the iconic part (the triplets) do not make a "real" melody... so almost anything can be layered on top or even below...

Metallica + Moonlight done here.. just for entertainment purposes

Like this! (This is the exact music they use)

Finally got a chance to lsiten to it (I'm up to my eyes in updating links to archived Eurosport livestreams that have changed their address since I posted them on here), and I don't like it.

Don't get me wrong, Kandace has a great voice. And I love "Moonlight Sonata". But, putting them together like that just doesn't work for me.

That one worked better for me. Although, that might be because I don't actually know the Metallica song (I'll listen to the original later, after I'm finished the link editing).

I know it's not the same situation because the song I am about to mention was written specifically for the music, but I like the way Barry Manilow blended Chopin's "Prelude in C minor, Opus 28, Number 20" into "Could It Be Magic":

Barry Manilow - "Could It Be Magic" (1973 Bell version)

Right, I gotta get back to this editing. I'll comment again later whenever I get to listen to Metallica.

Ah, I'll bite... although everybody may laugh at me now... but I love Manilow's Could it be magic... the desire in that song... and yes, the intro works so, so well...

Regarding Kandace Springs, I think she made a very nice version, her voice is beautiful, but apart from the Moonlight part (which doesn't add much here imo), this version interpretes the lyrics very differently from the original, which is a lot darker, actually threatening and a bit creepy... this one makes it sound like putting a spell on somebody because they are theirs is somehow a nice act of love, lol...
Anyway, another nice music choice which still makes me long for more out of the box thinking.

this chopin prelude is also used a lot in mashups... why... same thing... steady rhythmic pattern, no real melody but a simple harmonic progression...

i dislike when people use a classical music piece, thinking they can add to it as if it were incomplete... very pretentious in my opinion... no matter if it's well done or not.

I’ll confess too. I also loved Could It Be Magic. And I was alive when it first came out.

To me, there is a difference between a song that takes snippets of another song, like the Moonlight Sonata mashup, and a song that is based on a classical tune, uses melodies from the tune, but is transformed into a popular song, like "Could It Be Magic"..
Another example, A Love's Concerto by the Toys, based on Bach's Minuet in G Major. Not a mash-up, just "based on" (evidently modern musicologists say not Bach. Too bad, so sad, that's how I think of it ;) )

As you say, that's not a mashup but a complete act of plagiarism :)

It's from the Anna Magdalena Notebook, and is nowadays attributed to Christian Petzold.
