2023-24 Programs by Discipline

And another one from some time ago, but it hasn't been posted here yet as far as I saw.

Matteo Rizzo's 2023/24 SP: Derniere Danse, choreo by Massimo Scali.
Awesome!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, @CrazyKittenLady !!!  :points:

I just looked it up, and that's the song that I've been trying to remember the name of all of this past season!!! :drama:

From the Latvia Trophy in December:

OK, Alana Pang's ISU was updated 2 days ago, but she was certainly not skating to "Never Enough" like it says she was! She was skating to a French song. But I can't for the life of me remember what it is called! :drama: And it is annoying me. Which is why I looked at her ISU Bio.

I enjoyed it. But, it looks like I am in the minority, as she goes down into 11th position out of 13.

From the Tallink Hotels Cup in February:

Typical!

For weeks I have been trying to remember the name and singer of a French song that a lot of the younger skaters have been doing their programmes to.

And when this segment started and the first girl on was skating to it, I thought "Finally! It is being skated to by a skater that is old enough to have an ISU Bio that I can check!"

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Except, the ISU Bio for Alissa Margrethe TROXLER AARØE (NOR) is still showing her programmes from last season! :bang: :bang: :bang:

From the Abu Dhabi Classic Trophy in March:

It's taken a while, but Skater #4 has finally been deposed as the leader.

Skater #10, from Georgia, has taken a large lead of 6.79 points.

Oh, and she was skating to that French song that I absolutely love, but has been annoying me for the past few months because I can't remember who sings it or what it is called. (It's often hard enough to make out lyrics in my own language, never mind another! )

I could probably find more comments like those, but I'm sure you catch my drift.

:thank:

Is this another clip from the Eurovision contest? :scratch2:

Harris/Chan are suggesting Madonna's Material Girl for the RD

Oh god, as much as I like Michael Jackson to dance to and absolutely love Madonna (her 90s more than her 80s though), can't they come up with something else??? MJ and Madonna should simply be forbidden for the 80s rhythm dance.
Sometimes you would think these people only know 5 musicians at all and from each of those only two songs.
It's a level of uncreativity that is almost unforgivable for people who talk about "artistry" and such.

well i am quite excited with these two choices :) and you know... these folks didn't grow up listening to 80s music... so it probably has a different ring to it... i can already see zach and marjorie in thriller : it's going to be fun !

Also : artistry for a performer or even a choreographer (versus let's say a composer or a singer songwriter) is not about what is being performed but about how it is being done... let's wait and see if they do it justice and then if they don't, let's complain HA !

Ah no let's complain already or better, all the time... :p
No seriously, of course it's not that bad, but I am disappointed and hope the others will come up with better ideas. I also didn't really grow up with 80s music, those are Oldies for me, but the amount of used and overused music in figure skating in general does bother me. There are like a million Michael Jackson programs already. I don't think any other pop musician gets used as much. MJ and Madonna are probably the absolutely first that come to mind when you think of the 80s...
I mean it's not like someone like Aymoz always has the most original music choices. Of course you can make good programs from overused music. But for figure skating overall I think it would be so cool to have more variety and more original choices, and then there's the thing that I just love music, many different kinds of music, and I feel it's a pity that like 0,000000000000000000000000000000001 percent get used. It's also not just the music you hear again and again, usually the music will guide the choreo and especially the outfits as well, so that there isn't much variety there either.

well... you know... Phantom of the Opera was 1986 :) so watch out :) honestly, and I say this as a musician, music is not that important in figure skating... :) and that's why we get all the same old same old... it's just a vehicle to perform the tricks... Zach and Marjo are fast and explosive... smart choice here you know? Harris and Chan : i can see her being all' Material girl" again.. smart choice.

Predictable. Fair enough... Smart though :)

I said it earlier... give me Satefy Dance
Sledgehammer
Blashphemous Rumours/People are People. Somebody etc... from Depeche Mode
or
even Domino Dancing :)
even better Marcia Baila by les Rita Mitsouko :)
there is tons of music... we just need to be patient... and then we can complain :) hahahahaaha

Here I leave you with one of these suggestions

or a very obscure choice... (well i would think it is unless you are Canadian....

in any case, i tend to not pay too much attention to program choices in dance until we see the RDs... some teams change them anyways... i was here to see what the single skaters were picking :) sorry for the distraction.

PS.. i think i maxed out on the :) emoji
PS2 what are the odds FBS skate to A-Ha? I mean fine he is not Norwegian but whatever :) he has a take on me vibe :)

I love your suggestions, especially Marcia Baila :love2:
Guilty needs some high speed choreo, but then I'm sure it smashes.

For anyone who travels down south on vacation MJ is still a big thing. Almost every resort we have been to has a MJ Tribute show. Some people even plan their trips around making sure they are there for the MJ show. We have never seen one and do not plan to. ;-)

As someone who was actually alive and kicking (and dancing) adult in the 80s, can I say?

Bring on Michael Jackson, Madonna and all the others :dance3:

Take it from Auntie El, at least in the great city of Philadelphia, Michael Jackson and Madonna were not seen as safe, boring music in the actual 1980's. Which is the point, isn't it? Elton John would have been seen as more "safe".

Now, back to why can't they skate to my favorite music, part 43. Believe me, I'm not making fun, I do that all the time. What I would give for the Gap Band. But that's not based on the fact that it is "real" 80s, although it was, but that I like it:biggrin:

They might just all go on wikipedia 🙈

That would mean they actually actively looked for songs, though. I think the thought process goes more like "okay, 80s. which song from the 80s do you know?" "Thriller!" - "Done!" / "Okay, another one, we need one for a girl" "Like a virgin!" -"oh, not that one. another one" "Material girl" - "Yes, we take it".
