Thank you! Love Prince's Kiss(also secretly hoping some dance teams might find a way to incorporate Tom Jones and Art of Noise's "think I better dance now" sample/version of Kiss too even if a bit cheesy. ;) )

Will I hear some of "Total Eclipse of the Heart," "Cover Girl (August 1989 is still the 1980's)," "I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight," or "Living on a Prayer?!" I'm excited!!!!!!!!
A few of those probably not, due to lack of creativity in the field anymore LOL!

Kao Miura (JPN)

FS: Attack on Titan OST
Choreo by Shae-Lynn Bourne

This better involve the opening theme from the first anime, aka the only part of Attack on Titan that I care about.

I am really struggling to see the programs that are suitable in the RD. The essence of the 80s but silver samba? What does "essence of the 80s" even mean, decades don't have an essence, just a narrative. And I'm not sure what that narrative or essence from the 80s is. Cold war? Shoulder pads? More likely.
Anyway silver samba is not fitting to that imagined essence in my eyes. They might be thinking of something like the Like a Virgin album?
Hopefully someone will do I want your sex. :bsplit:

bold costume choices? bad patterns? big perms? shoulder pads? heavy make up? hey! it's ice dance!

i don't understand why conti macii keep again their free program.

Two years the same thing is too much
They're keeping the same fp for 2023 - 24?? Did I understand this wrong? Please, no! They need to expand their repertoire. Continually repeating the same program may help by being able to focus on tech consistency, but it's also boring and lazy if you repeat too much! 😐

ETA:
I noticed @Jumping_Bean indicates in a below post that skaters repeating programs is often about conserving expenses... As in, not having the money to pay for new choreography. Hmmm... but didn't Conti/ Macii make some money last season? Won't Italian fed go to bat supporting them financially, particularly after their successful season? In this instance, repeating could be more about staying in a comfort zone where they can continue focusing on consistency. And maybe they really enjoy the song and the choreo. They would have to with the number of times performing to it. 😌 Keeping same programs certainly worked for Miura/ Kihara circa 2020 - 2022.

OTOH, altho' I get that Conti/ Macii don't seem to have great range in their skating, they do need to freshen things up a bit. Hopefully, they will at least get new costumes. 🤨

Breakfast at Tiffany’s?!!!! Yessss!
"Being good, isn't good enough," is from Hallelujah Baby, sung by Streisand!

In other news for ice dance @WASA (Flores/ Desyatov share their new FD):

"Isabella Flores on Instagram: “Our 2023/2024 free dance will be to West Side Story! We had a lot of fun working with @ka2sh a few weeks ago on a super energetic and fun…”" https://www.instagram.com/p/CsWVFeorj1J/?img_index=1

Cool! Apparently, KAIT Weaver is doing choreography now. Does anyone know what else Kait has done/ who else she's choreographed for? This clip looks exciting for Bella + Vanya 😍👏

There's a much more pragmatic reason why a lot of skaters, particularly from small or medium-sized feds, reuse programs - Money.
Choreography isn't cheap, and using a program for two seasons essentially means halving the cost.

I don't know if that's the reason for Conti/Macii keeping their Free, but I do imagine it's the reason for a number of other skaters who have expressed their money struggles (Hocke/Kunkel for example).

Junior Ladies skater Katya Gervits (ISR) did a great Ghostbusters SP this season. I liked it so much that I included it in my post in the 5 Favourite Programmes thread!

Unfortunately there are no individual videos of it on YouTube. 😞

But, here is her highest scoring performance of it, within the archived livestream of last month's Abu Dhabi Classic Trophy:

Katarina Gervits - 2023 Abu Dhabi Classic Trophy SP

👻

She finished 9th in the SP and overall.

By the way, Katya and big sister Liza (who won the SP and the overall 🥉Bronze Medal) are great pianists, and there are LOTS of videos on YouTube of them playing both individually and as a duo.

They are following in their mother's footsteps. Lubov Yanpolsky is also a pianist and figure skater.

LOL! I love Katya's costume. Thanks for sharing. 👻

Yep sure. But it's not for sure this is the reason for C/M, as I added to my prior comment. In some cases, keeping same programs with some tweaks, or new costumes can work well. This is especially true for meaty, satisfying programs that don't feel old, but are always enjoyable to watch. As @4everchan said earlier, C/M's fp already peaked. Thus, repeating it could land flat. To me, it already seemed old and dated last season, albeit they are a charming pair.

Still, I just felt last season how much they need to expand their horizons. They strike me as wanting to repeat, repeat, and repeat (much like they train their elements) to achieve consistency. But repetitiveness in material just gets old and uninteresting, unless they were repeating a more exciting and challenging program.

For example, I really loved when Kirsten M-T/ Michael Marinaro repeated their Marcotte fp, Un Ange Passe, for two seasons early in their career. The choreo was a different look and feel for them that worked, and it began helping them define their partnership and their direction as a team. Repeating it gave them the opportunity to work on nuances and to improve their delivery. With C/M's program, where are the nuances to work on? They pretty much aced the simplicity and charm of that program already.

this time mama has nothing to say...so far...
