For those who don't know Jean-Michel Blais. I call this kind of music "crossover" some people call it "neoclassic -which is not accurate" or even minimalist (which is is also not accurate in terms of music history)... but yeah... here it is...

I can see how Marjo and Zach will do wonders with this music, but to me it ranks in the Einaudi, Muse exo type of elevator sound

PS : I will be OK with any of the music cuts :) ANY ONE OF THEM :) Please cut as much as possible HA!

So much discussion of F-B/S’s FD music (and I’m not excited about it either TBH), but no one wants to talk about their RD choice? I think “Take my Breath Away” could be fabulous for them!

And I think both Piper and Paul are about as far from Wuthering Heights as any two people could be, but hey—they don’t have to try to inhabit the characters, it’s perfectly fine to just use the soundtrack. At least it’s something different!

Having never heard of the composer and just reading your description, I was predisposed not to like it. But to my surprise, I do. Maybe it's partly because I play (badly) the harp as well as the piano and it's harpish music? And I do think it's skateable if the skater has any innate musicality and doesn't just do someone else's choreography by rote.

At first I thought, "But not for pairs", and then it sped up. Yes, it could be quiet-program pairs music as well as dance and singles. Maybe no place for a twist, but I heard combo spins, carry lifts, single or double throws, spiral sequences.......I'm going to get hold of this and coax my recreational partner into improvising something to it. He plays the flute; he'll get what I mean about the harp.

And I'll be interested to seeing it used by much better skaters who can do something much better with it.

The sounds are nice enough of course. For me, it's just decorative music, not very deep or complex. So that's why I like it, but of course, it has some agreeable sonority. The good news is that Zach has some musical training, so he should be sensitive to whatever is possible to get out of this muzzzic :) and they won't need to do a twist, just some twizzles :) and steps. I am sure the stat lift will be easy to put anywhere.

 And to think I only added links for their profiles on a new site I found to their Fan Fest's Original Posts a few hours before this was posted (why didn't I think of checking their ISU Bio while I was at it?!) :drama:

Really looking forward to seeing these programmes. First of all, a Michael Jackson programme using songs that you don't usually see being skated to. So, this will be interesting to see (not least because I only actually know one of the songs).

And then a "Beauty And The Beast" programme. Emilea will make a lovely Belle. But, I do think it is a bit unfair Vadym being cast as The Beast!

Please note, though, that the composer of the songs from the "Beauty And The Beast" film is called Alan Menken, not Alan Melken as stated on their ISU Bio.

Now we just have to find out if they will get an outing before their Senior GP debut...

They’re using covers from later than the 80s- I thought that wasn’t allowed? Both the Adam Lambert and Glee versions are much more recent

Here is the exact wording of the rules:

"The theme selected for the Rhythm Dances for both Junior and Senior for the season 2023/24 is “Music and Feeling of the Eighties”. Any music is possible provided it was originally released in the decade of the 1980s. The couple should demonstrate through dance the culture and feeling/essence of this decade. The selected music may be remastered. The Rhythm Dance should NOT be skated in the style of a Free Dance. The couple must use dance movements and dance holds to interpret the chosen music from this decade."

Although the word itself does not appear, there are two key sentences that appear to refer to covers.

The first, "Any music is possible provided it was originally released in the decade of the 1980s", appears to be an explicit instruction that 80's covers of earlier songs are not allowed.

The second, "The selected music may be remastered", suggests to me that they will allow later covers of songs that were originally released in the 80's.

So, I take it that Charlène, Marco and their team are looking at this second sentence in the same way that I did.

But, it looks like ISU are not being strict on this, because we have already seen programmes that do not conform to the rules (e.g. Ashlie and Atl using Run-DMC's 1986 cover of "Walk This Way", a song that was originally released in 1975 by Aerosmith).
