2023-24 Russian Grand Prix - Stage 2 - Omsk

If I'm reading things properly, it seemed Kostornaia had a dummy spit afterwards in the interview feeling they could have done much better or should have been out in front.

I thought they were great and achieved close to their maximum for two singles skaters that have been skating together for 6 months.

I don't think there's anything wrong with their score. They did everything they could. Their pair elements still need a lot of work.
Thats what I thought as well so I was shocked, when I saw those quotes. I definitely don't think they should have been ahead the other 4 pairs.

I dont think Adeliya feels the pressure from that, im more inclined to think its the whole mess and scrutiny that followed last weeks scoring and her performance. It likely doesn't help that she didnt have time to unpack and reflect on everything.
I think it's Valieva putting the pressure on. She must be thinking you have gained 10 centimetres and 7 kg in 18 months and now you're jumping that 4T even better than before. Can't you have a sabbatical. Plus she'll always be at a deficit for PCS against Valieva.

but Kamila isnt here, they wont go against each other until nats. Adeliya was doing everything fine in warm up and this field isnt that strong. The reaction last week was intense it would be odd if it hadn't affected her even a little.

I'm just an armchair expert and armchair psychologist, but it's Valieva and Akatieva who she's always measuring her performances against.

Regarding Alyona, she's always kind of been a perfectionist, and what she said was probably mostly influenced by her own disappointment in her performance. Also, the score they got was lower than she ever scored as a senior single skater (and also lower than all but like, two of her junior scores), so I wouldn't be surprised if it stung her pride a little, even if this is a completely different discipline. I think she just needs to temper her expectations a bit.

Yea, the two juniors won't be senior eligible for another like, 4 years, so there's really no reason for her to feel pressure from them. Would be a shame if the mess from last week got to her, but then, that's the judges fault for not simply scoring her properly...
