2023-24 Russian Grand Prix - Stage 3 - Krasnoyarsk

I know this is domestic scoring, but Maiia's score certainly was a choice by the judges. 🙈
Wait, what?? They gave her 193? Thats unbelievable.

From what I have noticed, I would say less so its domestic judging but particularly Eteri judging. They were gifting Petrosian +3 for hand on ice as well. Its quite shameless how blatant they are. But lots of other girls get dunked on hard in judging including AOP, as well as favourites and popular girls who arent with Eteri.

By the way, Petrosian is indeed still my favourite skater this season so far, but I can be objective...

The "top" skaters get the PCS thrown at them.
Thing is domestic scoring is a mild annoyance usually, but when skaters do domestic competitions only and all year long it becomes really silly and the skaters with better artistry are screwed...
I'm also always a bit worried about how they will react to not getting these kinds of scores once they return to international competitions when skaters get these (sometimes undeservedly) high scores domestically.

It's very obvious with the US junior women too, even with good skates and appropriate scores, some are deeply unhappy because they scored much higher in national competitions. And it's not just PCS, but often rotation calls too. Some skaters have chronic UR issues and only get called in international competitions, inevitably leading to disappointment. :(

It's not just Eteri, in men's Semenenko (who I really like) and Samarin for instance are definitely getting crazy PCS, too. But yeah, there are differences relating to who your coach is and if you are considered a top skater.

There rarely have been a drastic difference when it comes to Russians imo. The gap is rarely over 10 points across both programs. A skater who was achieving 230 domestically was getting at least 220 or close internationally. The worst i've seen is in USA and France. Italy too.
In Russia, it's probably in men discipline that's the scores are the most cooked.

I think Russian girls have less of this problem than anywhere else.
I don't really agree to be honest. Many of Davydov's skaters have their fair share of rotation issues, and so do Panova's, plus some among the St.Petersburg girls. AoP has their fair share of decently highly-ranked junior skaters with questionable rotation too, and even among Eteri's skaters there are a few.

Now, to be fair, how many of them would be sent out is not clear, and how long would they be sent out if they got calls? Depends on the fed, they sent Stasya Konstantinova (as much as I love her) out for a while instead of others with better jumps after all. 🤷‍♀️

I was just referring to girls, good point. I was just hoping to make it clear the whole scene doesnt deserve to get dunked on, some girls are earnestly getting very good scores.
