2024-25 Grand Prix assignments: Updated 11/12/24

Isn't it possible that its different because there are way less Pairs than dance teams/singles skaters? At the beginning of the 22/23 season they came close to almost running out of substitutes for Pairs.

There's been a hell of a resurgance since then.

It's a bit dramatic to claim the ISU is losing fans because of this. I don't think the more casual fans would care that much about the minutiae of grand prix substitute rules. Those who do care (me included) aren't likely stop watching over it.

I agree it would be dramatic to claim that fans would lose interest over this rule... but my point is more that it's a tradition for the ISU to create cryptic rules that most fans do not even understand, and in this case, even followers.... and that has led to many people losing interest.
So in that sense, this new set of rules is still not transparent enough for most to understand what is going on, and it is symptomatic that there hasn't been a culture change within the ISU. I'd like more transparency. That's all.

Reitan/Majorov scores at least were updated after this weekend with the new PB Challenger score, and they made a huge leap the list, I think they had something like 13 teams above them, and now they are nr. 4 on the list. It seems the scores are updating for most already on the list, it´s very weird that some scores doesn´t update.

Could it be that the teams have to do something active themselves to update, send in the new scores? Are Larson/Kapran competing this season? I noticed Paganini is now officially of the replacement list, but Ting, who announced she will be taking a break for the rest of the season at least, is still listed. Maybe she hasn´t notified ISU, but Paganini has?
Larson/Kapran are competing this season, and they have a higher SB than what's on the list. That's why it's strange to me that it hasn't been updated. Not that it will make a difference at this point, more that it's strange how the rules are applying.

Beccari/Guarise are signed up for Warsaw Cup later on, maybe they’re holding out hope for Lucrezia’s state to improve.
I hope they will get to compete at least for a bit in this season. This must be quite frustrating, especially with the home Olympics coming up soon. They haven't been skating together that long and probably are still trying to find what works best for them...

If G/K take the spot, this will be the first time Filipinos participate in the Grand Prix since I think 2016.
There's a possibility that the PHSU president will inform them to take the GP assignment and skip PH Nationals (Nikki Cheng will not take no for an answer this time around ) since it shares the same date and it is a prestigious event which it will create media buzz for the country (Gamez's main goal is to be an inspiration to the next generation of skaters albeit vague on my end)

Although that this is an opportunity to get the CTES Worlds mins and serves as preparation for the Asian Winter Games next year since the goal is to get PH's first medal.

Although that she can prosprone Philippine Nationals for another week to accommodate them.

I sure hope G/K go. What do you mean by “this time around”? Was there a similiar situation in the past? I think this is G/K’s first ever GP opportunity, right?

Last season that they are in fact that their suppose first GP assignment is SkAm as one of the first alternates but didn't happen which I found out from an acquintance that they spent some time with a sports psychologist at that time.

With the updated coach change which I was surprised that Cheng was able to convince Bella to stick with Dimitri Savin's team only due to what happened in Montreal last season and the former's main wish is to send a female skater for the Winter Olympics which she's not going let it slip it through her fingers.

Gámez/Korovin confirmed for NHK!

The next two in line should not have that issue (Americans and Germans don't need visa for short-term travel to Japan, afaik), so there's at least a slight chance there will still be a full set of pairs at the NHK Trophy.

Who's next in line? :)

Who's next in line? :)
  1. Isabelle Martins / Ryan Bedard (USA)
    • Have been dealing with an injury during the off-season, only did Glacier Falls (domestic qualifier) in July but are on the entry list for CS Warsaw Cup (Nov. 20 - Nov. 24)
  2. Letizia Roscher / Luis Schuster (GER)
    • Have also been dealing with an injury during the off-season, but they competed at CS Nebelhorn Trophy and Diamond Spin already, as well as being on the entry list for CS Warsaw Cup (Nov. 20 - Nov. 24)

Will Gamez/Korovin stay on top of the replacement list if another spot opens up at a later grand prix, or would they run into the same issues?

At this point, two couples would have to withdraw, because there is a Japanese pair ahead of GamKor on the alternate list and they have a right to one more Grand Prix Assignment (the Japanese pair is already at NHK, that's why the spot opened up for GamKor).
Plus, if the problem was Alexander's visa then they'll run into the same problem because both Finland and China require visas for Russians, to the best of my knowledge.
This is pain of every skater with a weak passport...competition opportunities just aren't going to be the same.
It looks like Grand Prix hope is over for GamKor, but I have no doubt they'll fight to get on the list for next year.
