oh, wow. That's nice for Torgashev, particularly after France, but did we just collectively give up on figure skating in Canada? Gonna go put Torgashev in predictions to show support, obviously, but aww.

I don't think it's giving up, more that Gogolev is still dealing with the back injury that took him out of Nationals. He talked about watering down his content for SCI due to it, so I'm not surprised he withdrew here. If he had issues with a free program with mostly triples, this probably wouldn't have gone better.

Couldn't they have replaced with a Canadian skater, like Rakic? Again, this is not to say that I am not thrilled that Torgashev had the second spot he absolutely earned and needs to potentially consolidate his standings in the ranks.

No, replacements are supposed to come from the top of the list. Lucas Broussard is at the top, but he may have declined based on how short notice this was (or he's injured too since he watered down his content at Skate America after his short program). Torgashev is second on the list, so he gets the assignment once Broussard declined.

Rakic is low on the list, and even if they used his score from SCI it wouldn't have gotten him close to the top of the list.

Aww, that's just sad.

Good for Ahsun and Lara, but still also sad. Loena didn't come as a surprise to me because I think her focus is now Euros since she couldn't qualify for the final anyway, but Isabeau??
