I think my favorite part of this event was the first half of Zingas/Kolesnik's FD. Some really beautiful and original and interesting moments there.

They lost me at the midline character sequence. The cartwheels were an unnecessary and distracting gimmick, and I never got into the back end.

So, all they need to do to get me fully onboard is to fix the second half and get a completely new Short Dance. I'm ready to uber, but they have to do their part.

So Mr Shpilband this is much better than Beauty and the Beast I'll give you that, but it's still not as special as Vadym... also did we really need the cartwheels
I'm just glad it wasn't as frantic as their RD

They're going to run away with the win, that's for sure, but this feels like their Lady Gaga program, just reflavored in Beyonce and red. As such, I have the same reaction: in theory I should like it, in reality I don't. There is doing what you're good at and there's doing only one thing, and I am afraid that F/G are firmly in latter territory now. I don't know who's responsible for this, IAM or themselves, but I am losing interest in them with each season, which is not good because I started with being in love with them and falling out of love is always a terrible feeling
To quote my sister as a four year old - Why do you like this dance?
Cause its nice (that's all I can say about it as well)

Christina really has a special taste in dresses
I don´t know if it was Christinas's choice or someone else's advise, because his costume is not better... but they seriously need to burn those costumes. It happens sometimes, everybody makes mistakes. It's easy to fix, they just have to burn them.

This is gonna be a subjective opinion, but I have a problem with the music of Carmen (that I love), I think that figure skating should "retire" some musics, the same way that basketball and other team sports retire shirt numbers. I haven't seen any interesting Carmen since Virtue-Moire's program, and this is not an exception but it's disturbing knowing that Scott (and maybe Tessa) have work in that choreo. I don´t know, maybe if they change the costumes later in the season, I can give them the benefit of the doubte and watch it again.

Kudos to Olivia & Tim E for going out on a limb and taking some serious risks in trying to create some unusual and interesting moves.. I noticed a knee brace on Olivia's left knee. So glad that she did not hit her head on the ice in that fall. First pancake down, this program will be fun to watch as it changes and grows throughout the season.
I agree with you.
I saw the first movie of Dune but I don´t understand the story and I'm not interested enough to read the book, but I really enjoyed this program: the unusual music, the creativity of the choreo, the contrast in the costumes, every thing.
To be honest, Spanish teams are my teams, no matter what, but I have a favorite and Olivia and Tim are not that team... and I'm really p*** to admit how much I like this FD.
Twizzles, falls... they'll make it better next time.

I´m wondering if Olivia is actually dealing with rheumatoid arthritis or something? She did post a story last weekend with a picture from her left knee which looked swollen/red, but more like a big rash IMO. For me it didn´t looked bruised from an injury, but rather that the rash was causing her knee to be swollen and painful. And it kinda didn´t look superswollen either, so I thought she wore the brace because of pain and stiffness. She also said in the story that she had a couple of bad days and also showed some rashes in her face. Somehow I thought that was connected to her knee. It sounded like it was something more then injuring her knee but what do I know. It all was kinda cryptical, because she didn´t explain what caused her knee to be this red/swollen.
I do not know if she ever has said something about this, that but that was my first thought. If you have a flare up in arthritis, if I remember correctly the flares are often not symmetrical and can be on different parts of the body, so that one knee can flare up but not another. I do remember she seemed to have skin rashes in her face earlier but didn´t think it was connected to any autoimmune disease, I just thought it was kind of a bad skin situation from time to time.

I hope it is not infected from a knee slide. I hope it is not one of the other chronic conditions you mentioned. Poor Olivia, I hope she heals soon.:ghug:

I take it you are a Sofia & Val fan - they are very good too. Ha Ha! that you find yourself in a quandary enjoying this dance. Just enjoy them both!

Looking at her IG now, she posted a slide with 10 photos/videos and one of them is off her skin rash, but there is a comment - "on a skin care mission", so maybe that is not related at all to her knee. Hopefully it just something temporary with the knee, it looked painful though. Hope she heels soon.

I agree with Fear & Gibson AGAIN with the same program, one pony trick to different pop artist music, code whoring the choreographic elements and that's it

At first I liked them but since 2021 I just can't stand them and this season is no exception, Lila's weaknesses are there to see, can't get why the Components so high in SS

I personally thought that Zingas/Kolesnik were better than Carreira/Ponomarenko. More energy, commitment, and expression to the program. I also thought they had better speed. Carreira/Ponomarenko just seemed like they were holding back somewhat.

ZK’s free was choreographed by Benoit with the stipulation that it not be altered once set…so Benoit’s cartwheels, and he apparently thinks they’re necessary.
This is interesting information, and very relevant.

Personally, I'd tell Mr Benoit what he could do with his stipulation, but maybe that's just not done in ice dance.

I am puzzled. I thought Smart/Dieck fell during SlLi. But the protocol shows the judge panel decided that they fell outside of SlLi because SlLi earned +1.34 GOE. What am I missing?

They fell on the choreographic lift and didn't get any credit for the element at all. If you compare their protocol with those of other teams, you'll see that they are missing an element, which is exactly that attempted choreographic lift.

The Straight Line lift is before the midline steps.

I loved UtaMasa! Can't wait to see their R&J later in the season when it's more comfortable. Already very impressive.
On the other hand, I'm not sold on C/P Carmen. It did nothing to me.
For some reason I'm all for Olivia&Tim's Dune. With all the cheasy stuff I had a great fun watching them. Go for it!
Zingas/Kolesnik were the best imo. Music choice is not my cup of tea but their quaility is outstanding.

I don't understand what F/G's FD had to do with the music at all. I always feel that I should like them more than I do...

Really excited for UtaMasa, hope they continue to grow because their FD looks so promising!

I loved the first half too! The music really captivated me too.
I never heard of choreographers giving rules like that, they should be happy top ice dancers are showcasing their programs and the cartwheels don't make any sense to me.
I also liked parts of CPom Carmen, the phrasing to the music was pretty good. I think Anthony's costume needs to be darker though.
In my opinion it's an exciting time for US ice dance but Green/Parsons need to watch out if they are to make it to worlds this season!

Olivia and Tim's program is the most interesting to me ( I know nothing about Dune so it may be heresy for those who know the story) it has unique choreography. Obviously not well performed here. I think it will be great by the end of the season.

I found the rest of the material to be pretty meh.... 😕 But, I'm honestly not a huge fan of any of these teams except the Taschlers and I wasn't the biggest fan of this FD. It was a bit messy... Maybe I will enjoy it later when they clean it up.

The Ukranian team remain my favourites from this event. Both their programmes were stunning.

I really want F/G to do a classical or contemporary classical piece.

I’ve been catching up on FDs via YouTube and not only do I strongly agree with you, I’m pretty sure I saw them doing some of the exact same voguing choreography from their Vogue FD. I have felt them connecting less and less with the music the last few seasons and while I’m glad Rocky is over (one of my least favorite programs of all time) I was still shocked by how much this program feels like reheated mix and match leftovers of their past hits with almost nothing truly fresh left in the choreography. It is September, so they still have time to spruce it up a bit before the Grand Prix season, but with these scores I can’t imagine they or their coaches feel at all motivated to do so. I know they’re capable of more than this, but I guess the judges are satisfied so there it is.
