2024 Cup of China Men's Short Program

I strongly dislike Egadze’s program. Another skater does a much better job and the irritating part is that he obviously watched that program and borrowed a few bits from it but he just doesn’t have the skating skills and performance chops to pull it off. It comes off as a bad parody of Torgashev’s program.

9. Nika EGADZE 🇬🇪
"L'Enfer" by Stromae, choreo by Eteri Tutberidze, Daniil Gleikhengauz

4S+3T (one of the best combos I've seen him do)
4T (off-axis but holds on)
FCSp4
3A (skids, steps out on landing but out of a difficult transitional sequence)
CSSp4
StSq2
CCoSp4

SP:

I really wish Nika would go to another choreographer - I think he wants to be a performer, but this material is not showing him off at his best, and it doesn't help that he's really focused on getting the jumps done. The step sequence choreo is solid, but the rest of the choreography feels out-of-place, and some of the elements like the ina bauer and the arabian don't work with the music.
Kevin Aymoz is doing choreography, I elect him.

10. Matteo RIZZO 🇮🇹
"Two Men In Love" by The Irrepressibles, choreo by Luca Lanotte; Massimo Scali

4Lo< (two-footed, holds on)
3Lz+3T
CCSp4 (bobbles on change of foot, nearly drops spin)
3A
CCoSp4
StSq4
FSSp4

SP: 84.92 (3rd) SB

Matteo's skating quality is so good - he does a few pushes and has enough speed to go into a 4Lo, and his blades are whisper-quiet. His spins are also normally so strong (that camel error was silly), and I love this program - the knee slide in the steps is so effective and he fully commits to every move.

I just love to watch Matteo skate. His interpretation is sublime. I am so pleased he is taking his recovery carefully - his eye is on the big prize next year. One odd blip on the combo spin, but what a crossfoot spin. Love, love to watch him skate with inspired emotion rather than just adrenaline and testosterone.
