2024 Finlandia Trophy Men's Short Program

Went and watched some of the men.

Yup, Jun wuzrobbed, what has he done to offend TPTB?

Kevin, except for that one fall, was terrific and given our experience of his reaction to pretty much anything, I was glad to see him shrug it off both on and off the ice (there are skaters who can still create total magic even with a fall, there are others where they can't even when squeaky clean. Unfair but true.) Kazuki performed the hell out of his program (and there's still not many could pull off that alien veggie spaghetti shirt) but seemed rather... apathetic? in the KnC which isn't like him.

Aleksandr's real costume must have been in the luggage misdirected to Bullamakanka.

Finally got to watch the men. Far from a clean competition jumpwise and yet I enjoyed several things.

1. Kazuki is truly special. The music does nothing for me and yet I like and respect the program. His speed and effervescence make the program work for me. He keeps up the energy throughout.

2. Kevin continued the theme of me not really caring for the music but liking the program because of the skater. He puts so much into each performance.

3. Jun's flair, musicality, and steps were superb. Again, not my favorite music but I loved every second.

4. Yuma's program is such a skating skills flex. "I'll give you an insipid version of Sounds of Silence but you'll completely ignore it because my skating is so smooth." I bought it hook line and sinker and I'm already hoping he wins the short at Worlds.

update on my ankle...
It was great... yesterday at the swimming training, the coach decided we were using flippers, but the pool's flippers are not meant for fast swimming but more for diving....she even said so herself... my ankle is messed up... it should be okay in a few days but I AM ANGRY. Maybe I should sue her.
Hope your ankle is better soon. :ghug:

OK, so I broke my own rule and watched bits of the men's short late last night when I should have been getting my beauty sleep, because the commentator hinted during the women's short that the men's short had been a splatfest. And oh boy, it was! Really happy that Kazuki had a clean skate and as GGFan said, the programme is growing on me although the music isn't to my taste. I feel that Junhwan's programme doesn't suit him - he is tall, has long limbs and elegant lines - his music was fast and choppy, and he always looked like he was trying to catch up to the beat. He is gorgeous to watch, but he didn't look comfortable to me. Yuma was yummy as always - a little surprised that his score was lower than at NHK. Unfortunately, I have to work and can't watch any free skates until tomorrow night :(
