Grassl gives us the first fall within the first five seconds of the program and, like Andrew last week, he fell on something invisible. The rest of the program was clean. His lutzes still look like pops, but he’s improved a great deal on his movements. Grassl used to be one of those unfortunate skaters that could make the most beautiful choreography in the world look highly unattractive, but he’s worked out that.

Obvious aside, that was beautiful from Daniel.

I know there is still a segment and a half to go, and anything can happen during those, but I have a good feeling for Daniel. (OK, so I may have a vested interest here, having put him 2nd in my predictions).

He looked really disappointed when he went into 3rd position. But, as Chris said, look how tight it is at the top! He is only 2.01 points behind the current leader, Tatsuya TSUBOI (JPN).
