2025-26 Russian Grand Prix - Stage 1 - Magnitogorsk

I don't follow Russian press. Is the strategy for Adelia to go big or go clean for the Olympics? She's so solid and given her competition, she's competitive, but do they want to just compete or to win?
The first goal is for her to get there in one piece. She was injured during the off-season and she's not expendable, so they have to be careful with her in a way they didn't need to be with anyone in recent years.

And of course, they'll still want her to win, or at the very least medal - It's a matter of being able to say on the Olympic stage "See, we are still the best." They'll want her to have a quad (4T, most likely) and/or 3A, but in the end, a skater, even with reduced tech content and only some medal chances, is still better representation than no skater at all

Great first stage for the senior women. Standings as expected.

I hope my faves Gushchina and Zakharova have great skates tomorrow and that Sinitsyna has a redemption skate.

Last season the PCS would have been a little higher, but trying to instil some confidence in Petrosian and give her a little bigger margin for tomorrow.

That was the most enjoyable skating I've watched over the past two months.

What a great day of skating. It would be perfect if Marinicheva was clean. Tomorrow is set up to be an absolutely nuclear event.

Should be an < on that flip

This is q not <, but her blade finished on the full rotation (I don't judge by pick). By Kaori judging standard this is over-rotated (not even joking).

I don't know if I agree with that. Its the first stage and she looks like a different skater from test skates. I don't think they'd be able to say "we're still the best" without a gold. They couldn't care less about a podium. They only care about gold, and Adeliia looks fine to get it with even just her quads. Its unthinkable to me she would go without a quad. I do think they'd rather be left out than not win.

It should be gold or bust. With the full arsenal of quads and a triple axel. Her only chance is to take it out of the judges hands.

If she can't restore her ultra-c she should withdraw from the Olympics. It's not going to be a fun event for her there's no ceremonies to attend, isolated from the other skaters, not representing her country. Better to send no-one than let her be humiliated by the ISU system.

I really enjoyed Guschina skate, she was really into the music and the character. She has greatly improved her performance skills.

Adelia had a visible stumble but otherwise it was ok, still skating "small" by her standards but solid and seems to be in a recovering path. Hopefully she can leave her injury finally behind.

And now that we are moving to Men I unfortunately will have to leave 😢

Small, maybe... but, the flow and continuous lining is already on a new level from anyone. Every entry, jump, and exit was connected to everything before and after. Nobody else has this holistic seamlessness right now.
