2025-26 Russian Women's Figure Skating

Well then... Sasha 3A... Decent rotation as well.

P.S. Anyone have any GIF uploader recommendations? Giphy tanks the FPS now for some reason, Tenor doesn't approve my GIFs and Jumpshare breaks my links. Anything else?

Is anyone able to access the scoreboard and protocol PDFs for this event...?

I get an error page saying that I'm using a VPN, even though I'm not. (So maybe it's just because I'm outside of Russia.)
Same issue from Canada. No VPN active.

Double standards are obvious. And here comes another wasted season...

Valieva not really I'm afraid. Not cumulatively. I do think Dzepka's choreographical talent is top 3 that we've seen. Way ahead of 3A (none of whom are even in this discussion—not close). However, without a needle-spin or split-spin you cannot discuss anyone next to Valieva, and likely not without a 3A either (Valieva had one of the best 3As of all time, people forget this as it's outshone by everything else she did). She had the biggest women's 4T of all time. Her balleticism was also literally flawless, right out of Bolshoi, and while Dzepka is flooring as well I think people are desperate for a new Kamila so they start throwing out the comparisons too quick. Dzepka's upper body use is close, but leg-work not really, and it's not degradation of Dzepka but nobody has come close to Kamila's leg-work. Remember this was all proven already (except maybe the 4T) while Valieva was younger than Dzepka is now.

I wouldn't really combine "3A" and "Kamila" as one comparison at all. Have we seen a Kamila talent since Kamila? No. Is Dzepka choreographically the closest to her level and style since then? Probably. As for 3A, we have seen plenty of talent on their level since then, and higher—especially choreographically. Regarding only jumps? Sasha maybe not, Anna probably since she didn't have a 3A. And cumulatively for sure, if we look at spins, steps, general presentation and versatility, etc...
Dzepka right now is better than Valieva at any point since December 2022. Valieva did not produce much after the age of 16.

I think I was still sipping the Valieva kool aid back in that 2023-24 season, while she was very solid in her short program, the free skate when I watch it now -- I feel embarrassed for her. I don't know how the skating skills can be higher than the 7's. It's just so slow. She gives up every time she performs it as well.

Valieva's skating skills have declined even more since before the ban. I find everything so sloppy about her skating now. She has wonderful elements in isolation (except her jumps), but everything in general wild, hurried and out of control. Maybe it's the fault of her new coaches? Under Eteri every movement was refined and had purpose (at least they tried to do that with the Black Panther program it was just horribly choreographed and Valieva no longer had the skill/fitness to perform the intricate parts of it).

What Dzepka is accomplishing without someone like Eteri breathing down her neck is extraordinary.

There would be no Valieva without Eteri.

I hope Valieva turns it around, but the ban expired 6 months ago, she has probably been performing in shows for nearly two years now (at least since July 2024). So it wasn't a true ban she only had 6 months off ice (and even then she probably hired rinks to practice). I'm not hopeful.

I sort of agree with what you're saying. As for no Valieva without Eteri, that's pretty obvious at this point, but let's at least give her a chance until test skates. Her showings since getting unbanned have been objectively bad though. Hopefully she at least reaches a solid level by real competition time.

But the context of my post was comparing peaks. Dzepka still isn't touching Valieva's peak for the reasons I explained.

In other news:

Looks like M. Zakharova is preparing something deep and emotional for this season! With her enormous talent it could be huge. She has been sort of wasting her time on trite programs which were only barely enjoyable because of how good she is herself. This clip says that Barber's Adagio is not the official music choice (very sad!), but, in general it'ss likely the theme is somewhere along those lines. Hopefully it's not some onerous ballade but something romantic. High hopes for her!

BTW, from what I can tell Masha doesn't have a fan fest yet. I might make one myself later if so. If anyone wants to beat me to it though that'd be nice. @flanker or @AlexBreeze perhaps.

For once, i'm hoping for more warhorses for next season. Some POTO, turandot, poeta, etc. But no Carmen or R&J.
The music choices haven't been it these last years.

Mishin kicked Muravieva out of his group... 😬

It looked like she was improving. She arguably had the best women's SP with flawless execution. FS performances slowly getting more consistent... I wonder what's next for her now. 🤔

Lesik said that Plushenko kicked her out of his group for "analogous reasons". Not sure if he's saying that it's just analogous cause the trainers made the decision, or the actual reason for that decision is the same.

No way she goes to Eteri, right? I don't think she'd last there. Fedchenko...? Mikhailov works with her, so...

Man, I miss Gorbacheva. She moved worse than nobody but Adeliia. Actually, she might even use her torso better. I really hope she comes back soon. Even without the quad, she could be one of my favourites and so unique. Best glide in the world for sure.

Mishin didn't do much for her, and has had no real recent success with women (Liza peaked late in her career but she skated small and lived and died by those tiny triple axels). What now for Mishin he just focuses on Petrova who has not improved imo since she was 13 (she was at a relatively high level at 13).

I like the idea of Fedchenko, Mura needs to keep her fitness in check Fedchenko has had good success in keeping Gorbachova disciplined. She has only skated for men, Plush is not a real coach many years wasted, Mishin close to retirement/death how motivated can he be?

I think she's probably found someone else and Mishin is trying to save face

I don't think Mishin is lying. It sounds like Plushenko was the one who kicked her out too. I thought it was the other way around. Not a good look overall for her...

If she or her mother are tough to deal with well we know how long Fedchenko lasted with Kostyleva, so...

Mishin only gave a comment after the news appeared in the media. Not before.

I don't think Zhukov would lie about reasons, why would he? He says that Sofia doesn't have a coach or even specific options right now.
Don't worry if she doesn't find a coach soon I'll step up. Send her to Canada. 👍

Kostyleva will be skating Bolero SP

It is messed up that things are looking down for Mura, I don't like how they are talking about her as if they have 1718 skaters of this talent which I am sorry but they just don't. Mura is the most complete skater and this type of skater would be really scoring high internationally.
I really hope that Sofia can just lay low, stay in national team and then get herself a GP spot once russians are allowed back, and if RusFed really think she is so useless then maybe she should turn to Fed that would appreciate her.
