2025-26 US Women's Figure Skating

I saw some comments about how quiet the thread has been. I've actually been so busy watching JGP and Lombardia that I'm too busy to post! What do you think of the JGP assignments so far? Last season the way they were assigned was ruthless but logical. I'm not sure what they are doing this year. I am happy to see so many girls getting assignments, so maybe "spread the wealth" was the idea, but some of the choices make less sense than others.

As of now, Emilia Nemirovsky is still down for Gdansk although I wonder if she'll withdraw. I think Emilia has enormous potential and is well deserving of 2 slots, but the injury last week was disturbing and l question whether it would be a good idea to compete again so soon. Of course this is my fear talking as I have no idea what the injury is. Her jumps in the first half of the FS as well as the SP were outstanding, but I'd rather skaters take time to recover than take more risks.

I'm not sure of the exact timing, but Sherry Zhang lost her second assignment. I'm really disappointed about this and don't think it is a smart choice unless she is injured. Meanwhile, Logan Higase-Chen received a second slot (although not Sherry's). I generally like Logan but based on performance so far Sofia B., Annika, Angela, Jessi, (and Sherry!), are all more deserving of a second slot. Hence my comment about things not making sense. Has Logan had a good domestic result lately?

Logan doesn't have a confirmed 2nd assignment, and I would be surprised if she ends up with one. The 2nd women's spot in Gdansk and both in Abu Dhabi are not confirmed by the USFS (Sophie von Felton is confirmed for Gdansk). The names on the ISU entries are just place holders. I believe Sherry's 2nd spot was also just a place holder, so not something she really lost.

You can see if US spots are confirmed here.

Based on scores, Annika Chao, Sofia Bezkorovainaya, and Angela Shao would be next in line for a 2nd spot (in that order). But they may also give more girls a 1st spot instead. I haven't followed the US domestic events that closely to guess who.

Can anyone please post a link to isabeau levito short program from Nebelhorn? The only channel I see that posted her program is wraudw, a channel I refuse to support for its blatant racism and for having a background image of a bunch of sw@stikas.
😨 I never noticed the background image. Thanks for pointing that out?

Great job to Isabeau and Amber! I absolutely love Isabeau's programs this year and Amber's FS I already loved last year and am happy she kept it for Olympic year.

For Nepela, I really enjoyed Starr's SP (I love fun programs and I am happy USFS chose her for skate america). For Ava taking a long break and not having her jumps fully back I thought she did well. For Elyce, I'm not entirely sure what is going on, she is a gorgeous skater but jumps don't seem to be working for her at this point. I hope she has a great grand prix season and comes back stronger.

Thank you for explaining. I find it confusing that these "unconfirmed" names get listed on the ISU site, but there are plenty confusing things in the skating world so I'll trust you on this. I see that as of today, there is one TBD slot for Abu Dhabi. Kaya Tiernan and Alayna Coats are in, which is news to me. Absolutely nobody except Sophie Joline gets two slots (depending on the TBD slot)? I support including more skaters, but this seems to be taking it to an extreme. The JGPF isn't everything.

Meanwhile, the ISU site still has Emilia Nemirovsky for Gdansk and Logan Higase-Chen and Rachel Samiri for Abu Dhabi. Maybe Rachel will get the TBD slot, but if not then she will be the only Junior Team Cup participant who did well at the selection competition to not have an assignment. So I kind of hope she gets it, but I'd also like one of the other girls who have performed well to get it. I also think there is an argument for Sherry Zhang, the only other JGP medalist among current U.S. juniors, based on higher scoring potential.

Here's a non X option (an ethically challenged platform that I refuse to visit): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItaTf4MV1V0

Never heard of this channel before; name seems misleading.

It is early and Alysa has been having boot issues. I still worry about Isabeau's jumping technique. Amber takes the early lead in the US battle. Elyce is ahuge disappointment. I was surprised to see her having so many jump issues. Sarah has looked good. I am curies about Ava but she hs been gone for so long all that positive trajectory is lost. Amber and Alyssa are serious medal contendenters and Isabeau possible bronze considering she is the 2024 world silver medallists. This brings us back to the old days when USA dominated. Starr is always pleasant but at this pint I sadly think she is not a contender. There Is Alyssa, Amber, Isabeau, Sarah that are viable top world 6 skaters.

Checked today and Rachel Samiri got the TBD slot for JGP Abu Dhabi. Alayna Coats is also going. It will be interesting to watch Rachel, who did so well at the selection event after an abbreviated novice career.

I have long wished someone to use Eternal Eclipse “Spirit of the Forest”; it is Rachel’s FS💚💙

Curious if Sophie will be skating senior domestically this season. Thought she gave a bit more to her performance in her last jgp and did a great job for herself. Kaya Tiernan also did very well. Loved her short program.

This week we have Starr Andrews and Ava Ziegler competing at Trialeti Trophy. I hope Starr makes me regrets not putting her in my top 5, her Beyonce short program is so fun. Ava getting more international comps is great, USFS giving her the support is nice.

We also have Alina Bonillo and Alexa Gasparotto competing at Tayside Trophy. Alina I remember liking her at last years nationals and Alexa has crazy height on jumps. Wish them both well. I'm not familiar with Penelope Ogorelkoff who is skating in juniors but hopefully someone records and uploads the programs.

Rachel Samiri was an absolute star today! I remember her at robin cousins comp as well and she is just such a performer. Can't wait to see her again in about a month at sectionals. Alayna Coats had a great free as well, highly recommend watching both usa girls free skate today.
