2025 Cranberry Cup Junior Women Free Skate

*mutes all the repetitive USFS spots*
Gosh, every single time! It's nice once but I really don't need to hear this fifteen times...

I just mute the stream and work on my copywriting stuff while they're playing, haha. Multitasking...?

I'm so sleepy.
It feels super surreal to be watching a U.S.-based event at 6am, but I'm on vacation in Japan and keep waking up heinously early, so I've been watching these junior events in the early morning while nothing is open. Seniors were in the middle of the night for me, though, so I missed those - really odd feeling considering this would be at a great time for me back home.

Hetty SHI CAN 92.32/135.34

Music:
Pas de Deux from The Nutcracker

Tech:
3Lz
3F-2T
3F
3Lo (this is so random, but I looove the sound that landing made)
CCoSp
1Lo-2A-2A
1T (opened up in the air)
3S-2T
ChStSq - Long Ina Bauer on the crescendo, GET IT GIRL
FSSp
LSp

Notes:
I will always get down with a Nutcracker program, and what a nice fit this is for Hetty. Suits her soft arms and fluidity perfectly! The pops are definitely going to be costly, but this was a good recovery from her short.

I wanted to say that this was going better than at NextGen, even if not UR-free, and then the two pops happened :(

Camila VOLKOVA CAN 89.10/132.19

Music:
"Aladdin" (live action) OST by Alan Menken

Tech:
3T-3T<
3F
3Lz - fall
FCCoSp
3Lo - fall
3Lz-2A - fall
3S-2T - step
FSSp
CCoSp

Okay, how do I keep missing jumps? Which did I not catch here?

Notes: two live-action Aladdin programs in this field is a lot more than I expected! Unfortunately, this was a really rough one for Camila. She had a strong start, but it kind of went to pieces :(

The Loop is just not her friend. Somehow, she managed to do those jumping passes well that she struggled with at NextGen and mess up those that she had no issue with at NextGen - Except for the Loop, which was an issue at both competitions.

Camila. Beautiful green dress, matches the program nicely. A few falls, but she never gave up.

Well, it feels like the Canadian gals want to make it even more difficult for Skate Canada to decide who to give JGP spots by finishing in a wildly different order here than at NextGen. Girls, what's this?

Megan WOODLEY CAN 95.54/140.75

Music:
"The Story of My Life" - Savannah Outen cover

Tech:
3Lz (Rippon)-2A-1A
3Lo - hand down
2F
3T-2T
FCCoSp
3S-2T
3S
ChStSq
3T - step
FSSp
CCoSp

Notes: this is last year's FS, and I've always found it really endearing because it truly feels like a program that a teenager would choose for herself. It's well-choreographed and showcases what she does well, but it still feels like something shea actually wanted to do. Lovely to see that. And also a pretty solid program, save for the popped flip. She really does have massive jumps, so I'm glad they stayed under control this time.

This is very silly, but one of the top skaters in my endless figure skating novel WIP is Canadian, and every time we have a meltdown I can't help but think, "where's Jieun when you need her?"

Teryn KIM USA 70.58/116.25

Music:
Dracula (musical)

Tech:
3F-2T
3Lo(<?)
2Lz
3T - fall
FSSp
3T - fall (yikes, that one looked rough)
3F-2T
3S - fall (also looked really rough?)
CCoSp
ChStSq
CoSp

Notes:
Teryn is lovely to watch, but this was really hard :( I didn't see a 2A, so I'm guessing she was supposed to connect it to one of the jumps she fell on...is there a penalty for no axel-type jump?

Ugh, she's so upset :(( That was a hard skate, but is she hurt? Some of those falls looked a little odd, so I'm a little worried...

Sad Teryn's jumps betrayed her today, especially after a very strong start. There were so many nice moments in this program, but the falls will just be too costly, unfortunately.
Oh dear, she's crying. Yes, go hug her, she needs that right now.
