2025 Cranberry Cup Junior Women Free Skate

Is Teryn having a nervous breakdown?

This battle for the JGP spots puts too much pressure on these poor girls.

The girl is traumatized

Notes:
Teryn is lovely to watch, but this was really hard :( I didn't see a 2A, so I'm guessing she was supposed to connect it to one of the jumps she fell on...is there a penalty for no axel-type jump?

Ugh, she's so upset :(( That was a hard skate, but is she hurt? Some of those falls looked a little odd, so I'm a little worried...
Yes, the penalty is that the last jumping pass gets invalidated. This rule has become more well-known as skaters have started actually using sequences. seems like a few skaters didn't know about this rule either prior to running into it head first.

Notes: I would've thought Gladiator was an odd choice for a junior girl, but it suits Kaya surprisingly well. What a great performance! This was the first clean skate of the night and it was a long time coming. I'm sure that'll put up a great score.

I don't think it's about JGP spots for Teryn (she didn't finish very high at the Jr Team Cup), I think she just expects a lot from herself. Some people are just naturally more anxious and emotional, and high-level sport is a really big stressor.

There's a reason I would have never made it as an elite athlete.

HOW DO I ALWAYS MANAGE TO MISS A JUMP.

Notes:
Nathalie is such a refined skater and this program has such effective and creative choreography. Jumps were a bit elusive today, but she's definitely a skater I'll eagerly continue to look out for. Not many people get that perfect teardrop shape in a Biellman these days, so we have no choice but to stan ;)

(Many apologies for my aggressive overuse of Gen Z brainrot slang, oops...)

Some jump issues, but you can see the potential. This is her first international competition, and the SP went so well, I'm sure she felt the desire to repeat that here in the Free. She might just not be ready for a full Free Skate yet at this point in the season, it's still really early.

Okay, this is where I drop off the face of the earth for a zoom call with my tutoring student, goodbye...

OK.
Four American girls and two Canadian girls in this final flight!!

Go Hannah and Reese!! You both just have to do just Ok just to nab JGP spots. Good luck!! Go Canada 🇨🇦!!

Cleo. Pretty dress and a pretty program. A few mistakes, but still a good skate.

Mixed bag for Cleo. Her jumps, particularly her toe jumps, are big enough that she shouldn't have to worry about rotation, ild enough that she does have to worry. Very flexible though, the spiral was a good showcase of that.
