2025 CS Cranberry Cup Senior Women Free Skate

This is a good result for Samo. With consistency, two 200+ scores in Senior GP, May be enough for GP finals. She can build her way slowly to 210+, as the season progresses.

Isabeau’s 3F 3T wasn’t called again 😱
To me, the scores were fair with the exception of Levito’s combos not getting called. Levito should have been closer to Samo, as result of this.

Isabeau’s SP is better than the LP. I just don’t see Alysa, Isabeau or Amber off the Olympic team though….. I really want Bradie to have a chance this season.

Is Samo now officially first on the GP alternate list? She had only Yuna in front of her, so that's not much of a difference here, but it's still amazing for her!

Hmm...interesting. Levito looked very fragile to me. Her Flips and Lutzes are really bad, and the fact that she swapped one Lutz for a Loop is worrying. That means she leaves points on the table, and her technical abilities are on a lower level. Still, she got the scores, but it was purely reputational imo.

Great skate from Samodelkina. That 2A was sooo high, and I suspect she might bring in the 3A later this season? Good that she is not backloading all the combos, she needs room for a plan B. By far, she was much better than Levito imo and should have won this.

Poor Shin. Shaky senior debut with 3 falls. I hope she will do another CS. She needs all the experience she can get. And hopefully, she will get a second GP assignment.
Agree about Levito. The 2A from Samo kind of looked like a popped 3A at first she had a lot of room to spare (she wasn't attempting a 3A it's just she had so much room to spare), and I suspect that is what she is planning to unleash 6 months from now.

Yuna Aoki is first on the alternate list, but Japan are maxed out on entries everywhere and so she can only replace a Japanese skater. Sofia is first on the list for non-Japanese withdrawals.

I think there is room for growth with Isabeau’s new FP. It’s only August. Having the new costumes for both new programs will certainly help as I was thinking of her Nureyev FP from 2023-2024 when I was watching today.

Also, her new SP music definitely isn’t Mad Men’s Zou Bisoi Bisou, but rather to the Sophia Loren Medley of (1) Almost in Your Arms from Houseboat; and (2) Zoo Be Zoo Be Zoo from The Millionairess.

I missed it the first time

If I remember correctly, didn't they update the scores on the Alternate List last season? If so, that means Sofia moves ahead of Yuna now.

Take off points for Isabeau's "training clothes" in the short program? Oh, tosh. She looked very pretty and charming in that outfit, more so than most of the other women in theirs. Whether she wears something similar in her training sessions, I wouldn't know. She's a very stylish young woman, so perhaps she does. But she wore something very similar in an exhibition last year, so this is more than just a training outfit. Possibly such a criticism is merely a metaphor for the unfairness some find in the judging, but given how attractive Isabeau was on the ice, it is an empty one.

It's ridiculous how it was scored. She turned up in training clothes in the SP and it didn't affect her PCS although costume is a part of it. She got 3's for her underrotated combo that was almost a downgrade in the short, while Sofia got -1's for what was a q on the combo (it was there). Judge that element properly it would have been -3.5 for Levito so one point difference overall just from that alone, take off some points for turning up in training clothes to a sanctioned event. Then in the free it was so disjointed with all the difficult landings, I'm sure she only got the bare minimum of q's when there were underrotations to be called, and it was an uninspired program. Sure it's early in the season, but Sofia is skating early in the season and she knocked it out of the park. All the jumps looked great, covers a lot of ice, showed plenty of emotion on the ice.
The costume isn't part of it.

The same here- I sooo much wish Bradie to skate lights out, to have a skate of her life!!!!. Sport is unpredictable and when it is unpredictable then it really is a sport.
Bradie's introverted, little bit of abrupt of fluidity style is unique and, perhaps, not for everyone. She is like a symphony and for sure not a classic one. A modern day symphony.

I don't know what you were watching, and I don't care about the outfits. But what I was seeing was skating that is crumbling badly. That was not a pretty sight.
I admit I have never been an Isabeau fan and I have criticized her bad technique for years. But she has always proven me wrong.
This however, was very alarming. Can she hold on for another year?

My overall observation and my own opinion of this entire competition was that the music was basically dreadful and I've never seen such unattractive costumes. I never thought I'd be praying for a workhorse or two. And it seems no matter how Isabeau skates there will always be criticism. I thought she did a very credible job for it being SO early in the season. Nationals is going to be very interesting - especially if the top 4 all skate clean - in the judges eyes, not ours! :love3:

The costume isn't part of it.
The costume is part of the presentation score. They are judged on how well their appearance fits with the music and program.

Are you telling me costume, make up, hair has no bearing at all on the score? Do they spend thousands of dollars on costumes and spend hours putting on make up and fixing their hair all for nothing? Just out of vanity and they could score exactly the same turning up in comfortable training gear? :rolleye:

Levito's training uniform suggests almost no engagement, commitment and involvement based on the understanding of the music and composition.

A great uniform can really make or break, or really enhance a program and be reflected in presentation (which it is). Conversely, a bad uniform or no uniform that adds nothing or even worse detracts from a program should be punished accordingly.

Levito’s not proving you wrong; for that, she will have to demonstrate a marked improvement in jumps and skating skills. Anyone being honest can clearly see how her skating has degenerated since 2022 Junior Worlds, especially when compared to some of her peers. She’s able to continue purely on motivation, which is emotional and psychological. Not physical. The Olympics is in six months. I don’t expect for her to physically be able to continue once that motivation is gone.

…and I almost never say things like that. But the writing’s right there on the ice. I’ll bet good money she’s going to go out like Medvedeva, but without the period of dominance.

Samo so tall on the podium. Quite an athletic build as well. This easy power Samo has across the ice bodes well for her long term prospects in the sport. This is something she can carry until her mid 20's.
