2025 World Championships Women's Short Program

I know the rink is a little bit smaller but what's up with the ice being soft? Did some skaters complain or you deduced that from something? I remember World Championships in 2016 held here in Boston and skaters really doing so well.
I think Chris spoke about being able to skate on low quality ice.

All Americand had at least a q on their combos but all were clean.
Chiba got a q...

As usual, the judges "saved" the skaters from the last group (except for Gubanova who had nothing to save).

Samodelkina was criminally underscored when you see what is ahead of her.

Several observations - I agree with whoever said Madeline Schizas isn't a top 6 skater. And I don't think that opinion is disrespect - more reality. I felt when Amber skated out to take her spot she looked like a deer in the headlights. And WHY do the 3 Axel. She needed to skate clean. Thought that wasn't a wise decision. Was surprised Alyssa's score stood up. She skated with such obvious joy and seems to really have fun out there. I don't know where she's going to end up but it's just so nice to see her back on the ice and doing well. Isabeau still has that really, really awkward jump style but Moon River is a perfect vehicle for her. I loved her step sequence and she really looks more mature than she did last year. Kaori - don't know what to say other than I also agree with whoever said she doesn't look like the same skater. Also didn't realize Rohene choreographer her SP. Interesting.

The free program is going to be VERY interesting.

Oh, yesssirree. Let's blame Canada and Boston for their rinks. That's it. Yeah, the rinks.

2017 top 6 in ladies would also have been age eligible if the age rules were same as today. So the raise of the age rules does not explain the low qualification score. I think it is because skaters are doing/trying more difficult programs which causes more mistakes.

Ice condition doesn't necessarily correlate with the actual rink but the conditions on a specific day, especially heating and outside wather - Though some rinks do have "chronic issues", like one of the Turkish rinks having fog during the summer and warmer autumn/spring days as seen during the JGP season.
As for soft ice, I'm pretty sure I saw someone write about it somewhere, but I can't find it now. 😅

Watching the women make me depressed. There are so many with phenomenal skating skills that should be strongly in top 10.
Sorry but Schizas is NOT a top 6 skater, not even top 12.
There's a reason I get my women's fix from another skating league. God bless Schizas she skated her heart out like in the team event at the Olympics, but maybe a reflection on everyone else that she's in the last group. Schizas has a certain limit as a skater, probably hasn't evolved as a skater since the Olympics (that is fine not everyone is 100% professional) and maximised her capabilities today so well done.

Some of these skaters can't handle pressure. A younger Kaori would have cleaned up today. It's four years since Shcherbakova won she never backed down from a fight. They just aren't cut from the same cloth.

I suggest that Amber went for the 3A because she is a competitor who wants to win and that any other skater who had that jump in their arsenal would have done the same.
And anyone who doubts Maddie S’s ability would do well to remember how she performed in the Olympic team event.
Not picking on you, I promise!

Reporter to Alyssa (paraphrasing): You skated against the Russians would it be more interesting to have them here?

Alyssa was non-committal

What can she say? Adelka would beat me by 10 points?

It's not blame to acknowledge that NHL-sized rinks and ice of different hardness will cause some skaters more issues than others.

A skater who doesn't usually cover the full size of the rink anyway (no shade) will not care if there are a few meters missing, but someone like Anna Pezetta, who covers a lot of ice very quickly and has lengthy jump set-ups will. (I mean, she literally almost jumped out of the rink at Jr Worlds.) Hard ice makes it harder to get into the edges on step sequences, while soft ice can make it harder to do toe pick jumps, that's just how it is.

That was a lovely and inspiring competition, I was really impressed overall with the choreography. Isabeau Levito's choreography was a match made in heaven with her on-ice personality. Alysa Liu was mature, joyful and oozed confidenct grace, I have no problem with the scoring and placement. Any one of there top 4 could have won and it would have been fine with me.

Amber lives by the triple Axel, dies by the triple Axel. She needs to come out with guns blazing in the LP to make the podium. Kaori is certainly within striking distance of her fourth world championship. Alysa may not have the extended firepower necessary for the LP. Mone Chiba is well positioned. We'll see. Go Wakaba!
