2025 Worlds: Info and pre-game chat

Team Great Britain: https://www.iceskating.org.uk/post/gbr-team-announced-world-figure-skating-championships-2025
Men: EDWARD APPLEBY
Women: KRISTEN SPOURS
Ice Dance: LILAH FEAR & LEWIS GIBSON and PHEBE BEKKER & JAMES HERNANDEZ
Pairs: ANASTASIA VAIPAN-LAW & LUKE DIGBY

No substitutes listed.
We can't list any subs, because no-one else has the technical minimum - but it is the most competitive team we've had for a long time. There is a strong likelihood of British skaters making the free in two disciplines, a decent chance in a third and probably a 50/50 chance in the fourth. It's not that long ago that we had almost no chance of doing so at Worlds in anything other than ice dance.

So what does a country need to place to get 2 spots, 3 spots?

Two or more entries for a discipline:
Two spots - placements add up to 28 or less (16 - 24 get 16 points, not making the free skate gets 18)
Three spots - placements add up to 13 or less

One entry for a discipline:
Two spots - top 10
Three spots - top 2

For Olympic spots, there may need to be confirmation at the Olympic Qualifying Event in Beijing if the spots include a skater who doesn't qualify for the free skate (such as one entry for a discipline that places in the top 10 or two entries and one doesn't make the free skate.) Only one spot can be confirmed there.

And Olympic spots:
Women - 29 with 24 available to be qualified at Worlds
Men - 29 with 24 available to be qualified at Worlds
Ice Dance - 23 with 19 available to be qualified at Worlds
Pairs - 19 with 16 available to be qualified at Worlds

I love smart people who know these rules:thank:

So how do you get ready for worlds? I love watching some of my fav skates...Wakaba FS 2018 worlds for instance....but nothing beats Yuna 2013 Worlds....Les Mis....41 seconds after she started, Scotty just went silent....His next word at the end was "flawless......" The crowd was on its feet 10 seconds before the end.....I was there....

Hey everyone!
Just checking in to see who is attending? Back in 2016 we had a pretty large GoldenSkate contingency! In 2016 I attended all events, but this time around I’m just able to make it to 3 events— women’s free, dance free, and men’s free. Myself and two of my friends are travelling from Newfoundland to attend and hopefully watch Gilles/Poirier become World Champions!!! 🥹🤞🏼🥰
I hope you all have a great time! Looking forward to the nationals season and the anticipation of finding out who will be skating in Boston!🩷
I was there in 2016...we had some great meet ups...lots of GSers.

Was this at the pizza party (1st meetup) on Wednesday? If so I was there - it was so much fun. There's a thread in Figure Skating: The Edge for meet up should we ask for it to be moved here

FYI - "color coded" schedule

Good Question. We had a lunch at Figaros....?

By the way, if you visit the upper levels of the arena, and see wrap over the nozzels of the condiment despensors, let me know. There was quite the mouse infestation in 2016....maybe they took care of it. You will see them from the seats running here and there around the floor if they are still there.

Per Phil Hersh, Isabeau Levito has been cleared to compete at Worlds.
