So what is your point? Costumes don't matter? Don't effect anything? People can whatever the heck they want in a performance and make it make sense to the audience?

Looks don't matter in performance - according to the consumers of an entire billion dollar industry based around performance by good-looking people?
Every skater that respects their own work and craft do care about framing their performance with proper costume - I don't believe there is a single skater or coach that would do totally ridiculous choice on purpuse or for self sabotage, yet misconception do happen (like Savchenko/Szolkowy one or wearing striped costumes for Schindler;s list etc). While I think is totally ok to discuss openly when some things feel ridicolous or inappropriate but the judges should not take it to account while giving scores for a particular performance. Of course, everybody have their taste and there is a human factor that all of those little details will affect the overall impression but it should be consciously reduced to a minimum while judging.
Also, let's not forget that skaters have different budgets, different resources, different cultural background and taste is very subjective thing. This is my point.

The only hope I have for these Olympics is for Kaori to leave this competition with a smile on her face, so I'm very happy so far. 😁

Buuuuuuuut I hated this jump map thing!!! The most distracting thing EVER without ANY purpose, since the lines vanish shortly. I had to cover half of my screen to not be distracted by the map because I couldn't take my eyes of it and didn't see any of the skate.

Every skater works hard and not everyone has a budget - a reality that shows up repeatedly in PCS to begin, unless you believe that people have unequal skating skills, choreography, and performance aspects despite having the same budget and investment in the sport. Yeah that includes costumes and looks. Look at all the "stars" of skating for a long time - people who were rich or ended up rich, known for their costumes and their looks. You think that affects nothing for the judges, who are part of the audience to begin?

You asked me what is my point, I answered and I'm done. Finishing my part here, thank you .

And quite literally all the others are and I wouldn't exactly be calling them backup dancers in that routine. She even ends up wearing clown make-up at the end - because THAT'S the interpretation of the song there.

Yeah, Chock and Bates 1st today becomes 3rd if they aren't immaculate in how they present themselves year after year. Nothing left to chance. They build an aura. They aren't better than their competition for skating, but project a great image. Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson too that 3rd becomes 5th if they turn up looking a little disheveled, the judges pick apart Lilah's skating. Instead they are enthralled by her she looks great, looks like a Spice Girl. Bravo. That's the game.

Skater91 only focuses Alysa’s jumps and anything else negative they can find. I don’t mind people having contrary opinions from me, but those who are so negatively fixated on one skater are not worth my time.
Only because they were the most egregious in terms of not being rotated. Sorry. I will post video tomorrow.

Does anyone know, does the results from the Team event count for the SB list?....if you compete in both short and long of course...

Strong event. I am really happy for Lara, she delivered at home on the biggest stage. I just love both of her programs this year. And I badly want the Italians to win the bronze (Sorry Georgia) and Lara beating Gubanova by 2 spots here was huge for their chances.

Kaori again showed her mettle and kept Team Japan in the fight for gold.

Jia Shin was fantastic and a bit underscored.

I haven't had a problem with Peacock being out of sync but am appalled at the number and length of the commercials. And, of course, my constant complaint about Tara and her never-ending mouth. Just hearing her voice gives me hives.

Actually this is my take on it as well.. reminds me of Puck in Shakespeare’s A MidSumer Night’s Dream
Lord, what fools these mortals be.

Yup, let's make them all skate in Ilia's Lombardia style suits with 3-5 small spots of color of choice allowed and with hairstyle guidelines. That would be actually fine with me and probably would show who has the best stills and acting abilities
Yeah, let's do it. This is what compulsory dance was about: same music, same pattern, right? They did go out of their way with costumes, most were so-so, but it does show who is best and it wasn't awarded for costumes. Also, they used to wear simple leotards in both gymnastics, and I would say those were very elegant.
You're showing your age. ;) Hair sticking out every which way, that's cool. (I asked my great grandchildren just to make sure.)

Actually, it's all part of Alysa's master plan. She is trying to distract the judges from noticing that every jump deserves a <<<<<. :)
Sure, but there is one aspect to it that we all come with different cultural backgrounds. The color scheme and pattern of Alysa's hair is unusual, I hope you agree that human hair doesn't grow in stripes. This + her hair style can bring strong associations with fur, e.g. ushanka hat, in some parts of the world. I am afraid you may underestimate how strong associations are. Alysa has the right to dye her hair anyway she likes, but depending on where people come from, it may bring about an association with a tigress, or a ring-tailed lemur, or an association chain shown below (the third pic is from a famous movie, a classic really), whereas the dress alone is fine, actually quite interesting in detail and with a nice silhouette.

So that you do not think people with associative thinking are a bunch of unaccepting freaks, here is another example: this little creature is cotton-top tamarin commonly known as Liszt monkey.

Remember, an association is a logically explainable subconscious reaction. Think of it like this: there may be nothing wrong with a car brand Chevy nova, but try selling it in Spanish-speaking countries and watch sales drop because to them "no va" perhaps causes an association with

But I agree that looks shouldn't negatively affect marking, I've already said it. OTOH I have nothing against rewarding a meaningful costume idea with a little bit of PCS bonus (but only a tiny little bit), as it's natural to like harmony and reward people investing in it.

I think the placements are right thou Idk if I would put Lari over Jia Shin, Kaori lutz was the flutzest one she has ever done and Alysa combo has been always a problem for her
