Like I've said, the USFSA is sending cruise missiles to a pillow fight.
Take a look at how hard Caroline is training.

MM - You seem defensive about figure skating. It's not necessary in other countries except the USA. All those Men in baseball have passed puberty and their technical keeps improving. Maybe those little girls in figure skating need some stereoids.About children's sports, I would have to say that all sports are for children. There are literally hundreds of millions of children world wide who play soccer. How many adults play with any kind of seriousness? Some, but a miniscule percentage compared to the number of children (which might be a billion for all I know).
Some athletes are good enough to prolong their childhood by playing baseball for the New York Yankees or by playing basketball in the NBA. They are professional entertainers. (They often act like children, but that's another question.)![]()

Or a workout like Caroline Zhang is doing in the picture posted by Polymer Bob!Maybe those little girls in figure skating need some stereoids.![]()

That's exactly what she needs, so that she doesn't need to double-pump her arms and mule-kick her free leg, to launch into those triples. Look at how skinny her arms are! It's a wonder she can do those triples at all.Where/when did you get this photo, Bob?

Well, I'm very good friends with her trainers and had done a few photoshoots in the past. So Caroline specifically asked me to come in and take a few shots of her while .............
............. not buying it, huh? OK,![]()

You had me for a minute there.
Yes, I think there is a lot of truth to that. I am entertained by figure skating.Joe said:MM - It seems that you are entertained by figure skating whereas others take it more seriously as if it were the World Series of Baseball.
That's interesting. Do you think that world all-round champion Shawn Johnson will be better next season at 16 than she was in 2007 at 15? Or did she hit her peak last year?chuckm said:Gymnastics bumped the minimum age up to 16, so it's no longer a little girls' sport.
Yes, I think there is a lot of truth to that. I am entertained by figure skating.
But I am also entertained by the World Series.
Actually, I think all sports falls into the categoriy of recreation/entertainment. If you play stickball in the street, that's recreation. If you play in Yankee Statium in front of 40,000 people who paid $80 a pop to watch you perform, then like it or not, you are part of the entertainment industry.
none of the above actually compete on a big scale. btw, Broadway Theatre people compete by playing softball in Central Park on Sundays in summer. They play to win not to advertise the shows.Yes, athletes train hard to achieve mastery of their craft. But so do ballet dancers, concert pianists, and circus performers.
Can you believe it? Some sportswriter the other day was saying that chess isn't a real sport!Chess anyone? Isn't that an egghead sport?![]()

BOT -I am a big fan of all true sports. Almost the whole front page of the sports section of my local newspaper today is devoted to a feature on Kevin VanDam (no, not Van der PerrenI remember Tiger Woods gave an interview where he said other golfers consider golf a game; while he considers it a sport.
), who will be going for his fourth world championship next week in the sport of bass fishing.
I've watched their jumps at Nationals in slo-mo and Rachael's jumps aren't cleaner than Mirai's or Caroline's. I think that the scorers at Nationals overlooked several things that the JGP scorers noticed. Perhaps Rachael's 3Lz has improved since the JGP season. However, her technique on her toe-loops needs substantial improvement. She pre-rotates her 3Ts and 2Ts ("toe-axels") significantly more than the other junior ladies. She is not as fast as Mirai and neither has amazing spins like Caroline, but her jumps are much cleaner and the way she pays attention to the music is not fully reflected in her PCS.
Are the 3 American Ladies a Done Deal?
Go Sarah! It is very, very likely, but nothing is impossible. Remember the placements at the JGP in Chemnitz:
1. Sarah Hecken
2. Rachael Flatt[/quote.
Zackova hit Flatt with URs on all the money jumps (3Z, 3F) which Sarah could not match. However, Flatt was the only skater at JGP GER standing in Hecken's way. There are lots of skaters at JW who can land the money jumps, so Zackova can't get away with downgrading all of them. IMO, Hecken will have a hard time getting past the 3 US girls, Yuki Nishino and Jenni Vahamaa to make the podium with her limited jump repertoire.
Last time I talked to her she wanted to give her best and try to place in the Top 10 so that Germany has a few more ladies spots for next seasons JGPs and Junior Worlds. There are lots of talented young ladies in germany right now that would be all to happy to get to skate a JGP next season
I don't know if she plans to do the 3F in the free skate, but she sure did 3R and 3T-3T at her regionals a few weeks ago in both the short and free programm.
Its her first Junior Worlds. I just hope she has fun and skates well. Everything else is a big bonus :agree:OMG! The technical team at JGP GER was:
Tech Controller Katarina HENRIKSSON SWE
Tech Spec Zuzana ZACKOVA SVK
Asst Tech Spec Jyrina LORENZ ITA
The technical team at JW is:
Tech Controller Steve WINKLER USA
Tech Spec Zuzana ZACKOVA SVK
Asst Tech Spec Ravi WALIA CAN
