Kim Yu-na OR
Yu-na Kim

Commentators use both, and I have seen both in articles. Does anybody really know? Thanks.

She would be totally capable of breaking 200 very soon because her previous competition still had some mistakes. It would be really exciting if she breaks it!

I think that the family name (Kim) comes first in Korea, but they flip it around when translating it into English.

But Yuna seems to have been very strong under pressure. I have been impressed. She is a super star in Korea and gets really a lot of attention, right?

True, but this is her first major competition as a favorite, so yet to know how she handles the pressure.

But she had an ailing back. Certainly at Worlds she was not expected to win. It was a surprise of a sort that she held up during the SP.

I think Yuna is a most impressive young skater and I enjoy her performances. But I also think her being annointed as the ultimate skater of today and the immediate future is premature. She has much ground for improvement ... spirals, spins (I don't care how many level 4's she gets, her spins need work) and flexibility in general. No, I don't expect her to be as "bendy" as Caroline Zhang, but I wonder why, with all the "specialists" on Team Kim, this is being neglected in her training?

That being said, sure, I can see her breaking 200.

I didnt say she was the favorite like she is now, but she was one of the favorites and considered a big threat to win, probably Asadas closest threat. The details concerning her back injury were a little bit all over the lot at the time, I am not sure many people held that too much against her chances with so little conclusive information. She beat Ando and Meissner to win her 2nd GP event, and beat Asada to win the GP final. Of course she was considered a big threat for the World title going in IMHO.

Apparently yes. But, who knows her inside? She is a 17 year old kid, after all. As Wrlmy described, this is the first time the majority is expecting her to win.

Well, she has to overcome it, of course.

Having seen the consistency so far, I cannot picture her making many mistakes, perhaps just a couple, if any. Of course, nobody knows the future and everyone has ups and downs. But this season, she seems to be in a very good shape both physically and mentally and seems to keep going up right now.

Yu na was the overwhelmingly the favorite throughout her last junior season (except for Junior worlds) and she did quite well there. So it's not like she doesn't have experience being the favorite. I do think the 200 score hype is silly though.

Well, apparently she didn't say anything about 'score 200' but I don't think she's burning in desire to win the whole thing.

I mean, yes she would be the happiest to win, but whenever asked about
winning someone, she goes 'I'm not doing skating just to win my rival'. It became kinda fixed answer, whether it's from korean media or japanese since all they ask is about winning and all they want to hear is 'yeah!! I want to knock them down!!!'. Maybe she's doing her mind-control that way, maybe she doesn't want to be burdened with media frenzy.

That said, I think media frenzy is yet to come. I sincerely hope Yuna handle it wisely.

Of course Yu-na wants to win it. I remember that when she first came out as a Juinor, her then, coach said that Yu-na was a competition skater. Also, in early interviews, when she won her first J. Grand Prix, she told her mom something like "I cut them all down to size." LOL! Shes' just now smart enough not to say things like that...But yeah, she wants to win... I do think the Korean Federation pressing the 200 mark is unfair on their part. Why don't you just ask Yu-na to win, and not pressure her to also hit this ellusive mark...

Four skaters (including Sasha Cohen in 2003 when they were testing out the new system) have gotten 197 points or better. Mao Adada is leading the pack only 48 hundredths of a point shy of 200.

To me, it's only natural that Yu-na Kim shoot for that goal, with her fans and the media cheering her on. It's like the 4 minute mile way back when runners were hitting 4:00:10. Higher, faster, stronger!

200 is a number that will inevitably be chased, and be achieved. An unknown vast sum of $ has it on either YuNa or Mao in the next three years.

and when it happens? I may not be around to witness it...
