BBC Documentary Ice Stars Airing again UK

I'm not sure what the school friend interview was all about. It made me really uncomfortable. I'm not sure why Ellie said she can't skate any more if Josh stops, as she knows that's not the case. Ellie does free skating on her own too. She is pretty good at it but hasn't competed for quite a while on her own due to a hip injury from jumping (that is better now). She prefers ice dance I think though. I am wondering if she was told what to say? I think her friends were told what to say for sure.

Thank you tiffoc! You just said what I was hoping you would say! ;)

Of course, I don't know your daughter like you do. But, I really got the impression that the way that the producers were emphasising these doubts over Josh's future so much was really affecting Ellie. Like, she didn't seem like her normal bubbly self at all any time it was being discussed (whereas, she did at the Bracknell Open!)

Personally, I don't think Ellie was being told what to say. What I think happened is that she had just got so down by all this talk of Josh possibly quitting that she could only see the negative side of things. And the producers were taking advantage of this. Which is just not right.

But, that's the media for you!

On your other point, I didn't realise that Ellie skated on her own as well. It's a pity when injuries put a halt to things, but at least she has recovered. And at least she is doing something that it is obvious she enjoys.

All the best to them

Ah. I think know what happened.

One of the rules in the vBulletin software running this forum is that you are not allowed to post links in your first post. (I fell foul of that rule as well when I first joined).

And because your post count for some unknown reason is coming up as 0, the software was treating it as a first post.

I will contact Doris (the administrator) to see if she has any idea why your post count is coming up as 0, when you actually have 6 posts in this thread alone! (You are actually the joint 2nd highest poster in this thread!)

I think that posts in this section (Share it) aren't counted. I first noticed that my posts in Le Cafe aren't counted when I have only few of them, so it was noticeable. And I think here it might be the same case :)

Bummer! I hope that gets sorted because I'd love to see her skate. I'm not in the UK so I can't really watch the episodes, but I'm really glad that Ellie and Josh are on solid footing. I (sort of/not really) understand why media does weird things with people--I mean, heaven forbid we actually watch the truth instead of a spun story to make things more "exciting"--but I really, really wish they wouldn't. It's not honest, it's not good journalism, and there are real people involved. Making needless drama affects people in real life, and I wish producers would remember that.

All that aside, please convey the very best of the best wishes to Ellie and Josh for us. We're all rooting for them!!

Yep, I heard back from Doris, and that is right enough:

Posts in Games, Le Cafe, and Share It do not give her credit for a post.

I actually thought it was only posts in the Games and Politics sub-fora that did not count towards your post count.

So, I have learnt something new through this!

Thank you!!!

Well, I know an easy way to get around this! I'll make a fan fest for them, and then all the posts will count! :cheer:

ETA: Ta-da!! Here it is! :cheer:

Wow! Great idea. :points:

And given how big a fan you clearly are of them, I am really glad that you adopted them before somebody else jumped in!

Because, in a few years time, I reckon they could be taking a lot of people by surprise! 😉

(And thank you for mentioning my "Ice Stars" episode reviews. I'm all embarrassed now! :o: )

OK, so some of you will have already picked up on this. But the skater I have been referring to as "Josh B" in this thread will be making his Junior Grand Prix debut tonight in Logroño, Spain.

Josh Brown will be the first skater to start in Group 3 of the Men's SP. He is due to start at 21:20:30 local time (CEST), which is 20:20:30 British Summer Time.

But that may change if any of the skaters on before him withdraw.

So, make sure you are back sharpish from whatever you are doing during the resurfacing!

Hi thank you every one, I hope that this will work and I won't get banned again. It was just a video from when Ellie was about 9 years old. It's not a great video I had to film it on my phone from the tv screen. You can also hear my younger daughter chatting away and my birds in the background. Any way here it is https://youtu.be/L2ZmEr-G2RY

Josh Brown finished 19[SUP]th[/SUP] out of 24 in yesterday's Short Programme at the Logroño Junior Grand Prix.

2015 Logroño Men's Short Programme Results

Josh B was the second skater that was focussed in on during the Group 3 Warm-Up, after Darian KAPTICH. It was only brief, but they came back to him 3 skaters later... and he fell! Here is the direct link to the start of the Warm-Up, within the video of the whole Men's SP competition:

And here is the direct link to Josh B's performance, again within the video of the whole Men's SP competition:

Finally, here is the video just showing Josh B's SP (unfortunately, it doesn't show him getting his results):

That was a very impressive skate to me! The only problem I could spot was when he singled his axel. But, Ted Barton on commentary pointed out that it was caused by his blade catching a rut.

But, Josh B was still very disappointed with that one mistake as he was coming off the ice and when he was waiting for his results. But, Gurgen seemed very happy.

LOVED the way that the first person Josh B said hello to when waiting for his results was Kloe! Although, now that I think of it, it might have been his wee sister, "Chloe B" as I called her. Nah - it was Kloe! Because he then said hello to "Mum, Dad, Sister"!

When the result was revealed, he was even more disappointed. 44.79, which put him into 11th out of 13 at the time.

2015 Logroño Men's Short Programme Protocols

But it is still an achievement to be in the Top 20 of the SP in your FIRST Junior Grand Prix. And he is only 4.19 points behind the skater in 14th. So, with a good performance in the FS, there is a real chance of finishing a lot higher.

Josh B will be the sixth skater to start in tomorrow's Free Skate. So, final skater in Group 1.

More details about his start time and the livestream will be posted tomorrow morning.

This thread is turning into a Team Great Britain fan fest! :cheer:

Isn't it just!

Well, there are probably people out there who are enjoying the show that aren't following the ins-and-outs Junior Grand Prix series. So, I thought they might like to know how one of the stars of the series was getting on. Plus, for those that can't watch the series on iPlayer because of geo-blocking, it would let them have the opportunity to see just who we are talking about.

I wish someone would start one!

On the one hand, so would I. But on the other, I can't help wondering if there is much point?

Like, taking those competing at senior level, the Singles skaters are not quite good enough to mount a serious challenge internationally, and the Pairs and Dance couples are seemingly all splitting up. So, the only ones left to talk about are Penny Coomes / Nick Buckland, and they have their own Fan Fest.

Sorry if this sounds negative, but figure skating in Britain is in serious trouble due to lack of funding. Which is why I am so pleased that the mainstream TV broadcasters are broadcasting programmes like "Ice Stars" and "Ice Rink On The Estate" that are aimed at promoting the sport to children. It is letting children know about the sport, and letting them see what can be achieved. And, hopefully, seeing these TV programmes will encourage them to try out skating and, sometime down the line, we will have a new Torvill and Dean; or Robin Cousins; or John Curry; or Jeanette Altweg; or Madge Syers (had to go back a long way to catch her!)

Who knows, maybe some of the kids currently appearing on "Ice Stars" will get to those heights! And we will all be able to say "We were with them from way back when they were children appearing on CBBC!"

It is hard to produce a fall-safe, sure-fire recipe for reviving a sport in a country. But I can't help but think that broader fan interest is a good thing! Fans are sources of funding, one way or another. And the source for volunteers, without which skating does not function as a sport.

If the problem is no money, promoting a fan base is a way to start.

Apologies for posting this so late. I only got a chance to watch the Men's FS this morning.

Josh Brown finished 18[SUP]th[/SUP] out of 24 in Saturday's Free Skate at the Logroño Junior Grand Prix.

2015 Logroño Men's Free Skate Results

This meant that he maintained his 19[SUP]th[/SUP] position in the overall results!

2015 Logroño Men's Results

We got a good shot of Josh B when he and the other skaters were waiting to get onto the ice for the Group 1 Warm-Up. He slotted into 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] in the queue to go onto the ice, but by the time he got his skate guards off, he was 5[SUP]th[/SUP] to come onto the ice.

Unfortunately, because it was the first group, there were a lot of graphics being shown as the housekeeping was being done. This meant that we didn't get to see as much of this group as we did the later groups.

Unless I am very much mistaken (to use an expression made famous by the great Formula 1 commentator Murray Walker), Josh B was not focussed in on AT ALL during the warm-up! (He did slip into the background of a few of the shots, though). To be honest, I do think this was an innocent mistake. After all, apart from Ancio van Tonder (who was wearing red), EVERYBODY in this group was wearing a costume that was either black or Navy blue. So, they did all look similar from a distance.

Here is the direct link to the start of the Warm-Up, within the video of the whole Men's FS competition:

And here is the direct link to Josh B's performance, again within the video of the whole Men's FS competition:

Finally, here is the video just showing Josh B's FS (unfortunately, it doesn't show him getting his results):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqVB31V750k

Josh B’s Free Skate was a real mixed bag. He had 2 falls, the first coming on his first element, a triple flip. Later in the programme, he fell again on another attempt at the same jump. Shortly after this, he completely popped a triple lutz to the extent that, during the highlights, Ted Barton commented that it ended up “almost like a split jump”.

But, the rest of it looked VERY impressive to somebody who is not technically minded. And I think that it was this that saved him from dropping in the overall results.

Nevertheless, Josh B looked scundered with himself after finishing. Even after we came back from the highlights, he still looked totally dejected when waiting for the results. Although Gurgen was just finishing talking to him when we came back to the live pictures, Josh B just nodded. He didn’t speak at all – not even to say hello to anybody at home. So, that just show how disappointed he was in himself.

He scored 83.64, which put him into 2nd out of 6 at the time.

2015 Logroño Men's Short Programme Protocols

Overall, finishing 19[SUP]th[/SUP] is not bad for your Junior Grand Prix debut. Especially when you consider that his overall score of 128.43 was over 10 points more than the guy directly below him (Irakli MAYSURADZE, who had a disasterous FS with SIX falls :drama:), and just 3.31 behind the guy in 17th (Taichiro YAMAKUMA).

And Josh B will not have to wait long to attempt to improve on that. His next competition will be the last Junior Grand Prix, the Croatia Cup in Zagreb. The SP will be in 3 days time, on Thursday afternoon.

But, until then, this thread will be reverting back to it’s normal conversation, as the penultimate episode of “Ice Stars” will be broadcast tomorrow.

:cheer: WELL DONE JOSH B!!! :cheer:

The final episode is tonight. It's a double episode and will show the gala, should be good.

Thank you so much for pointing that out. I hadn't noticed that there were 2 episodes. Right, I'll need to adjust the timer then! :drama:

Just a wee reminder that the ninth episode of "Ice Stars" will start on the CBBC Channel at 17:00 BST, i.e. 1h from now, and the 10th episode will follow immediately afterwards!!!

However, some weeks, people from "Ice Stars" have been appearing in the CBBC studio on Tuesday afternoons. And that is due to start, erm, sometime between now and 16:30!!! :slink: (If the past few weeks have taught me anything, it is that the start time of the studio stuff really varies! :rolleye: )

So, you might want to keep an eye out just in case there are more in the studio this week.

Details on how to receive CBBC (along with links to videos of the previous episodes) are in this post.

As usual, I will record it and watch it later.

"*$£$"£%$&"%&^"%& Stupid Freeview Recorder!!!

I went to adjust the timer earlier, but spotted that the series link had indeed picked up that there was a second episode on. So, I thought that was OK, and went away and had my tea.

I came back to find that I hadn't got all of the second episode. There was a bit missing in the middle where it switched recordings!!!

You see, I always set a good chunk extra when I set timers, just in case programmes are running late, or start early. And, in the case of "Ice Stars", to catch the studio bits before and after.

With the Sky box, whenever you are taping 2 consecutive programmes on the same channel, it tapes the full set time on both recordings, so that there is an overlap. So, I thought that the Freeview box would do the same.

It didn't. It taped the first recording until the time it was due to finish (17:37), and then stopped, prepared itself for the second recording, and then started taping the second recording.

Like, the box has got twin tuners, so what was to stop it taping the 2 recordings on different tuners?! Why did it decide to tape them both using the same tuner?!

I've had the box for a good few years now, and this was the first time that I have attempted to tape 2 consecutive episodes of a series linked programme. So, I had no way of knowing that this box worked differently to the Sky box.

So, now I have to wait until who knows when for the repeat of Episode 10 so that I can tape it in full.

Thanks a lot!!!

But, at least I can watch it on iPlayer in the meantime:
