European Championships Senior Pairs SP: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImVzjSEi9hg

Camille and Pavel finished 8th out of 18 in the SP, with a score of 57.13.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Still not sure about this walking out onto the ice. But at least it means we will definitely get a good close-up shot of the skaters when they are getting introduced.

They are wearing lovely all black outfits. A first I wondered if they had a new programme, but their ISU Bio still has the same music listed.

Lovely throw when Camille and Pavel were focussed on. Then they went off and did their own things. The camera followed Camille for a while, and then Pavel. Chris was impressed with a jump Pavel did.

Towards the end after everybody was focussed on, the camera followed Camille around for a bit.

And that was about it.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when they were being introduced:

Right, let's see if my kids do actually still have the same programme or not.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about the programme:

Ooooh. The tops are see-through. (Don't worry, Camille has a bra that blends in so well that you can barely see it)

Yep, it is the same programme.

3 Triple Twist good

Double Toe didn't go the best.

But Throw Triple Flip was great

Lift really good.

And so was death spiral.

Step sequence really good too!

Ah, out of sync on final spins.

Well, I think it is safe to say that they were back to full fitness and firing on all cylinders!

That is definitely the best I've seen from them this season.

They're happy.

New leaders.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Going back, DemTuppesSeine had also commented about the costumes during the Warm-Up:

New outfits for the Kovalevs? I miss the bright green

And then followed up with this when the programme started:

Music is still the same for them as far as I can remember...so just the costumes changed...

Another comment about the costumes came from Karoltyna:

I like these costumes better

I agree. And another comment I agreed with came from Sabsi:

Ok, the world really needs a lot of things, but a bad cover of Britney Spears’ Toxic isn’t one of them 😬

There were then a few comments about the programme:

Quite decent after a shaky start. Happy for Camille and Pavel

I always love to watch Camille and Pavel, and now is no exception. A pity about the double, but no falls!

Very good energy, just some elements turned out too toxic today.

Fun, energetic skate from Camille and Pavel.

I love this program for the Kovalevs, suit them well!
And I do like how their costumes are exactly the same - it looks much better than the jarring difference we often see in pairs and ID 😬

Camille and Pavel are currently 3.18 points behind 7th position, Ioulia CHTCHETININA / Michał WOŹNIAK (POL), and 0.10 points ahead of 9th position, Anastasiia METELKINA / Luka BERULAVA (GEO). Camille and Pavel are at the head of a group of 9 partnerships covered by 5.45 points, stretching down to Milania VÄÄNÄNEN / Filippo CLERICI (FIN) in 16th position.

On the one hand, it is concerning to see so many partnerships right on their tails. However, if you look in the other direction, 5.55 points ahead of them is Annika HOCKE / Robert KUNKEL (DEU) in 5th position. So there is the possibility that, if they have a good Free Skate, they could move up the order.

So let's hope they do have a good Free Skate!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Pairs FS is due to start at 19:00:00 EET (17:00:00 GMT / 18:00:00 CET / 20:00:00 MSK). So 10 hours from now.

Camille and Pavel will be the 9th partnership to start. So, first partnership in Group 3 (and first partnership after the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 20:31:50 EET (18:31:50 GMT / 19:31:50 CET / 21:31:50 MSK). So 11h 31m from now.

Camille and Pavel are due to start at 20:39:35 EET (18:39:35 GMT / 19:39:35 CET / 21:39:35 MSK). So 11h 39m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

Camille and Pavel finished 9th out of 16 in the FS, with a score of 110.50. This meant that they dropped to 9th position overall, with a score of 167.63.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Pairs FS LIVE, because it started just before it was time for my evening meal. However, I eventually got it watched on Sunday.

Here is the sort of comment that I would have written about the Warm-Up for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Camille and Pavel looked happy when they were walking to the ice during the introductions.

When we saw them next, Camille was on her own taking off her jacket. She handed it to their coach, and as she was heading back out, she nearly got knocked down by another partnership that were coming past at speed! Then as she was heading off, Pavel came in while taking off his jacket, handed it over, and then set off after his wife.

He caught up with her at the far end of the rink, and they immediately started preparing for a throw. They did it when they got back up to this end of the rink, and it was beautiful! As Chris said "that'll do nicely!"

They were preparing to do another throw when we left to focus on the next partnership.

The crept into shot a few times while the camera was focussed on other partnerships. One time, we saw Camille do a lovely jump on her own. And another time we saw her lining up a jump. Again on her own.

Shortly afterwards, in the last minute, we saw them together in the background. And then the camera focussed in on them doing a lovely lift. And then they went off in different directions to each do their final preparations on their own.

RIght, they're back together at the boards, waiting to be introduced.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is the sort of comment that I would have written about their programme if I had been watching LIVE:

Opening Triple Twist Lift good.

Double Salchows good, but out of sync.

Camille fall on Triple Toe

Axel Lasso Lift beautiful. So was the Backward Inside Death Spiral. And the Combination Spin.

Throw Triple Flip beautiful too. And the Choreographic Sequence. And the Flip Lasso Lift.

Throw Triple Salchow was magnifique! And so was the Lift at the very end.

Such a pity about the fall. Because if you ignore that, I would say this is the best I've seen them skate this programme!

Laurent and then Camille make hearts with their hands. Pavel is out of breath, but he manages to do one too slightly afterwards.

All three of them are really happy.

Camille comes closer to the camera to send a message.

They go into 2nd position in both the FS and overall.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Unfortunately, the forum was having technical issues on Thursday, and so not as many posts as you would normally expect were making it onto the competition thread. But, here were a few about Camille and Pavel.

The first was posted by one of my fellow British members, @thatdarncat, when they were being introduced:

Good luck Camille and Pavel :hap10:

Our resident video archive list compiler, @labgoat, commented:

I'm glad Camille & Pavel went back to this program. It really suits them.

I agree! But, I always have a soft spot for James Bond programmes anyway, because there is very little music from the James Bond films that I don't like.

She then added:

Cami has a very nice death spiral position

My friend in Sicily, @elektra blue, commented:

they didn't die. actually they look better than at the start of the season

And I totally agree with that! Although, that's hardly surprising givven that Pavel was returning from injury at the start of the season.

The final two comments, from @Sabsi and @bartlebooth, were both complimenting them on how well they did despite the fall:

Really good recovery after that fall on the SBS combo :hap10:

Good effort, guys! Nice to see them back on track! Shame about the fall.

Camille and Pavel finished the Free Skate 3.37 points behind 8th position, Annika HOCKE / Robert KUNKEL (DEU), and 0.18 points ahead of 10th position, Daria DANILOVA / Michel TSIBA (NED).

Overall, Camille and Pavel were 8.92 points behind 8th position, Hocke / Kunkel, and 0.79 points ahead of 10th position, Danilova / Tsiba.. Camille and Pavel are at the head of a group of 3 partnerships covered by 2.68 points, which was completed by Sofiia HOLICHENKO / Artem DARENSKYI (UKR) in 11th position.

Camille and Pavel scored new ISU SB's in all three segments. In fact, all their scores at the European Championships were considerably higher than any of the scores they achieved before Nationals. Admittedly, their scores in all three segments were lower than in Nationals, but not by much.

All of which bodes well for the rest of the season.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Camille and Pavel finished 8th out of 8 in the SP, with a score of 48.68.

Unfortunately, the Road To 2026 Trophy is not being streamed.

Camille and Pavel are currently 0.47 points behind 7th position, Greta CRAFOORD / John CRAFOORD (SWE), and 1.86 points behind 6th position, Julia Sylvia GUNNARSDOTTIR / Manuel PIAZZA (ISL). The three partnerships are the bottom three partnerships of a group of 5 partnerships covered by 5.48 points, stretching up to Letizia ROSCHER / Luis SCHUSTER (DEU) in 4th position.

Of course, it is never good to be in last position. However, apart from the leaders, the whole field is relatively close together. Camille and Pavel are 8.39 points behind Katie McBEATH / Daniil PARKMAN (USA) in 2nd position. When you have the majority of the field so close together, there is a lot of room for movement. So, whilst a podium position is probably out of reach, if they have a good Free Skate, Camille and Pavel could move up considerably.

So let's hope they do have a good Free Skate!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Pairs FS is due to start at 14:45:00 CET (13:45:00 GMT / 16:45:00 MSK). So 8 hours from now.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 14:45:00 CET (13:45:00 GMT / 16:45:00 MSK). So 8 hours from now.

Camille and Pavel finished 4th out of 8 in the FS, with a score of 106.17. This meant that they climbed to 4th position overall, with a score of 154.85.

Unfortunately, the Road To 2026 Trophy is not being streamed.

Looking at the Protocols, and they are such a contrast to the Short Programme. Apart from a -1 from Judge 4 for the Backwards Inside Death Spiral, there were only two elements that got any negative numbers beside them. These were the first element, the Triple Twist, which got the second biggest GOE hit, at only -0.23; and -3 from Judge 6; -1 from five Judges; and 0 from Judge 1. And the third element, the Triple Toe-Double Toe-Single Axel done in sequence, where the initial Triple Toe was landed on the quarter. It got the biggest GOE hit, at -1.34; and -4 from two Judges; -3 from four Judges; and -2 from Judge 3.

Apart from the aforementioned -1, all the other elements got Judges marks ranging from 0 to +3. And apart from two elements which were lower, all the GOE's ranged from +0.60 to +0.79.

Camille and Pavel finished the Free Skate 1.04 points behind 3rd position, Sofiia HOLICHENKO / Artem DARENSKYI (UKR), and 5.87 points ahead of 5th position, Daria DANILOVA / Michel TSIBA (NED). Camille and Pavel are the bottom partnership of a group of 4 partnerships covered by 2.52 points, stretching up to Katie McBEATH / Daniil PARKMAN (USA) in 1st position.

Overall, Camille and Pavel were 9.20 points behind 3rd position, Holichenko / Darenskyi, and 1.74 points ahead of 5th position, Letizia ROSCHER / Luis SCHUSTER (DEU). Camille and Pavel are at the head of a group of 3 partnerships covered by 2.33 points, which was completed by Danilova / Tsiba in 6th position.

After the SP, I said that "When you have the majority of the field so close together, there is a lot of room for movement". As it turned out, everybody finished in the same order that they were in after the SP... apart from Camille and Pavel. But they didn't just move up a but. No, they moved up a full FOUR positions, from the very bottom of the field to the top half of the field!

It is no exagerration to say that they could have won the Free Skate. But, at the end of the day, even if they did, it wouldn't have made any difference to their position in the overall results. So, it doesn't really matter.

What matters is that they had the mental strength to be able to come back from what must have been a massive disappointment.

Senior World Championships Pairs SP: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTAbERBU2Wo

Camille and Pavel finished 21st out of 23 in the SP, with a score of 54.07.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Pairs SP LIVE, because I was in bed. However, I am currently in the middle of watching it now.

Here is is the sort of comment that I would have written if I was watching LIVE at the time that they showed some backstage shots during the resurfacing:

Ooh, there's Camille stalking around at the edge of the area while another partnership do a throw.

She was getting into position to pounce and claim the floor space. And she does a lovely jump. And then goes over to her hubby, who is having a drink at the side of the area.

Camille is wearing a blue T-shirt and black track suit bottoms. Pavel is wearing a pink T-shirt and black track suit bottoms.

We then see Camille wandering around in the middle of the area while another partnership do a couple of elements. She and Pavel then start to move towards each other in preparation for doing something, but unfortunately, the camera cuts away.

And we don't see them again.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is the sort of comment that I would have written about the Warm-Up for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Awww. Camille and Pavel were deep in conversation when the stream started showing the skaters waiting to be introduced. Camille smiled and laughed when she realised they were on camera. And then when the camera moved to show Anastasia GOLUBEVA / Hektor GIOTOPOULOS MOORE (AUS) in front of them, Pavel stuck his hand in front of the camera to block the view. And all four of them burst out laughing.

Husband and wife then resumed their conversation while waiting to be introduced.

I actually liked the way they walked on so casually, like they hadn't a care in the world. And then when they got onto the ice, started waving to the audience.

When the start order table was being shown at the start of the Warm-Up, we saw Pavel really rushing down the ice to get distance between him and Camille. They do seem to like to do most of the warm up separately, and only come together to do elements.

Awwww. Those costumes are gorgeous!!!   Very Irish! ☘️ (Well, Boston is supposed to be full of Irish people, after all!) Much better than the radioactive costumes they started the season with.

They did a lovely throw when the camera focussed on then. Then Camille went off on her own, and the camera followed her, and we saw her doing a jump with an OK landing. Then we switched to a different camera, and followed Pavel, who was running his hand through his hair, before doing a lovely jump on his own.

After a while, we saw Camille on her own again. And then shortly afterwards, we saw them just moving around the ice together. Pavel actually looked puffed. Which got me worried for their programme.

CaroLiza_fan

And here is the sort of comment that I would have written about their programme if I had been watching LIVE:

Don't know what made the audience burst into laughter while Camille and Pavel were getting into position. But it made them smile.

Lovely Triple Twist to start

Chris and Kirsten said Camille made a mistake on the Double Toe, but I thought it was Pavel.

Camlle just about landed the Throw Triple FLip

Lovely lift. And so too was the Back Outside Death SPiral that followed.

Step Sequence lovey.

Spins at end went in and out of sync.

I like the end position. And they started talking to each other as soon as they were in the position.

Chris is still saying it was Camille that made the mistake on the Double Toe. Kirsten is talking about the size of the rink and about Camille running out of space. But seeing it again on the replay, I still say Camille's looked perfectly fine and that it was Pavel's that was messy.

Chris is wondering if they will get through.

They go into 9th position. So, we don't know yet.

But, I thought they were good.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

During the Warm-Up, my fellow British member @FlossieH commented:

Kovalevs are the pair I'm concerned about in this group. They haven't been great this season with the injury issues.

To which our resident video archive list compiler @labgoat replied:

They no longer have those radioactive green outfits from earlier this season

@labgoat then came back during the programme to say:

Wow Cami those knees are awesome

@figureskatingandrainbows was doing Play By Plays during the Pairs SP, and here is their post on Camille and Pavel:

11. Camille KOVALEV / Pavel KOVALEV 🇫🇷
SP: "Toxic" by 2Wei arranged by Maxime Rodriguez; "Toxic" by Britney Spears arranged by Maxime Rodriguez; "Lordly" by Feder arranged by Maxime Rodriguez; "Toxic" by 2WEI arranged by Maxime Rodriguez, choreo by Dominique Deniaud, Polen Gezmiş, Pavel Kovalev

3Tw2
2T (Camille doubles, was close to the boards)
3FTh (deep in the knee, hangs on, possibly two-footed)
4Li3
BoDs2
StSq3
CCoSp3 (out of sync on camel position)

SP: 54.07 (9th)

This was a bit of a mixed bag for the Kovalevs - losing the SBS BV will hurt - but they seemed to be having a lot of fun with this program and I love the sharp, punchy choreography.

To which @Seven Sisters replied:

It’s so French, and I’m always here for that

Here is what @FlossieH thought about the programme:

That was better from the Kovalev's, but I would have the Poles ahead of them.

@readernick then commented:

Lots of fight from the Kovalevs. I really do enjoy pairs without the normal height distance. He's so strong despite his thin build.

@Jumping_Bean wasn't looking so much towards the Free, but towards the more distant future:

I think the Polish team made it to the Free. But the Kovalevs will likely be at the Olympics one way or another, as France is very, very likely going to qualify at least one spot in all three of the other disciplines, and they'll get to bring a pairs team for the team event.

And here is what @FlossieH thought about the scores:

I think that's fair, unfortunately.

Polish member @Ares had mixed feelings:

I really like Kovalevs and I was unhappy to see them having a rather poor skate but at least this score means that a team representing my country is guaranteed a FS now. :drama:

At the end of the following group, @lileychristie in Australia commented:

I like Annika and Robert but I think the Kovalevs should be ahead of them, and qualifying for the free.... The Kovalevs were just a bit cleaner. I feel bad if they don't end up qualifying for the free :(

To which @jorge2912 in Chile replied:

I think Annika and Robert problem was that non stop rhythm, it should have a part no so europop for regulate speed and add something of variety and no looks like something without end.

Kovalevs had a very balanced SP, rhythm of the music allowed them have a variety of highlighted moments and was attractive too

There was one more exchange mentioning Camille and Pavel that puzzled me. @nickp91 commented:

Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud with the big screen quote of the night so far: "Go Leafs go!"

To which @figureskatingandrainbows replied:

I don't know, it'll be tricky to top the Kovalevs' "WE LOVE BURGERS!"

Looking at the Protocols, there were three elements that got negative GOE. But of them, the Double Toe was the only one that you could be classed as a major issue. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.35; as well as -4 from Judge 8; -3 from five Judges; and -2 from three Judges.

The next element, the Throw Triple Flip, had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.23; but the Judges marks were not as bad, with five -1's; two 0's; and two +1's.

The final element, the Change Foot Combination Spin, was the only other element with negative GOE, at -0.18. It got -2 from two Judges; -1 from three Judges; 0 from three Judges; and +1 from Judge 2.

All the other elements went well, with GOE ranging from +0.11 to +0.66; and Judges marks ranging from -1 to +2.

Camille and Pavel are currently 1.09 points behind 20th position, Annika HOCKE / Robert KUNKEL (DEU), and 2.97 points ahead of 22nd position, Yuna NAGAOKA / Sumitada MORIGUCHI (JPN). Camille and Pavel are the bottom partnership in a group of 13 partnerships covered by 9.63 points, stretching up to Alisa EFIMOVA / Misha MITROFANOV (USA) in 9th position.

That was using my usual guide of using a 2 point gap as defining groups. If we reduce it to a 1 point gap, then Camille and Pavel are the bottom partnership in a group of 7 partnerships covered by 4.70 points, stretching up to Daria DANILOVA / Michel TSIBA (NED) in 15th position.

Either way, Camille and Pavel are in the unfortunate position of being the first of the three partnerships that do not qualify for the Free Skate.

As some have already pointed out in the competition thread, this means that France will have to send somebody to China in September to try to qualify a slot in Pairs at the Olympics.

The irony is, their SP score in Boston was actually one of their better SP scores of this season. Which makes me even angrier that there are fewer going through to the Free in Pairs than in the other categories.

So, with the actual score in mind rather than the position:

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Camille doubled what should have been a 3T, so yes she did make a mistake on it. Pavel fell on the same jump.

I also thought the costumes looked very Irish. :)

Camille doubled what should have been a 3T, so yes she did make a mistake on it. Pavel fell on the same jump.

Ah. That explains a lot. Because the TES Box said it was a double, I didn't think any more about it.

I wish there was a way that it could be shown in the graphics that the number of rotations they are being scored for wasn't the number they intended to do. It would make it easier for those like me that struggle with the technical side of things.

I'd have said it was more of a hand down than a fall for Pavel, though.

I also thought the costumes looked very Irish. :)

I always love dark greens. Much more than light greens.

It wasn't just the colour of the costumes, though. The design even made me think Irish.

Right, gotta go. Group 5 is starting. (With 40 minutes to go, I don't think I'll get all of the Pairs finished before the cacti start).

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Pairs SP LIVE, because I was in bed. However, I am currently in the middle of watching it now.

(I only just got Camille and Pavel's programme finished in time to post this and leave for my dinner, so this is why the post is a bit sketchy at the moment. I'll edit more in after I see them get their scores, and again when I get to the end of the SP segment).

:cheer:

Congrats CaroLiza, you are the best fan!
There's still hope for the French at the qualifier but it's gonna be a brutal field with lots of experienced teams. I wish them the best!

The World Team Trophy is on this week in Tokyo, Japan, and Camille and Pavel are the Pairs representatives for the French team.

The Pairs SP kicks off Day 2, but with this being the WTT, we have already seen Camille and Pavel quite a few times. So before I give the details for them being in action, I feel we should have a re-cap of their appearances during Day 1.

Here is what I wrote in the Pre-Chat thread when the French team were introduced during the Opening Ceremony:

The French are just in their team jackets.

Oh, no, they've taken them off to reveal identical black with yellow highlight costumes. And now they are doing a choreographed routine.

My kid Camille showing rather a lot of cleavage. 😲

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote in the Men's SP thread when Kévin AYMOZ (FRA) was getting his scores:

After the first element, I thought "Oh, no. We've got the disaster zone Kévin here this week".

But, I was wrong. It was the good Kévin. The rest of the programme was sublime!

So good to see this.

Why is my daughter Cami dressed up as a pig? And Zhenya as a duck?

He goes into 3rd position.

CaroLiza_fan

Zhenya of course being Ice Dancer Evgeniia LOPAREVA (FRA).

Here is what I wrote in the Ladies SP thread when Lorine SCHILD (FRA) was getting her scores:

I see that Adam is now wearing the pig costume that Camille was wearing earlier.

She is now wearing a white T-shirt and navy shorts. Oh, and a wild looking bucket hat, with sunglasses perched on it. 😎

CaroLiza_fan

Adam of course being Men's Singles skater Adam SIAO HIM FA (FRA).

I'm sure we'll see more antics from them throughout today and tomorrow. But, for now, back to business.

The Senior Pairs SP is due to start at 17:00:00 JST (08:00:00 GMT / 09:00:00 BST / 10:00:00 CET / 11:00:00 MSK). So 3 hours from now.

Camille and Pavel will be the 2nd partnership to start. So, second and middle partnership in Group 1.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 17:00:00 JST (08:00:00 GMT / 09:00:00 BST / 10:00:00 CET / 11:00:00 MSK). So 3 hours from now.

Camille and Pavel are due to start at 17:14:20 JST (08:14:20 GMT / 09:14:20 BST / 10:14:20 CET / 11:14:20 MSK). So 3h 14m from now.

World Team Trophy Pairs SP: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyuUL0S8XvM

Camille and Pavel finished 6th out of 6 in the SP, with a score of 54.74.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Don't you just love my kids? Camille and Pavel did a funny dance when they were introduced, before they went out onto the ice.

Oooh, this is different. They are actually together on the ice when the cameras came to focus on them. And as a result, we actually got to see them do some elements. And the elements looked good!

The next time they were shown, they were back to doing their own things separately. So we saw Camille first, and then the camera switched to Pavel.

After showing the other partnerships, the cameras went back to them again. Camille was just moving across the ice. But then they switched to Pavel, and he did a very nice jump.

After a while, they showed Camille doing her step sequence. Then we switched to Pavel, but he was just standing still! (Presumably about to start something).

Right, just one partnership, and then we will see them do their programme.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when they were being introduced:

Now for my kids.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about the programme:

Really love these new costumes that they have been using recently.

First element went well.

Camille was worried that she didn't have enough room for the Double Toe, and so had a premature finish to it.

She nearly had a hand down on the Throw 3 Salchow, but just avoided it.

Lift good. And so was the Backwards Outside Death Spiral.

Now into the weird music for the Step Sequence. It looked good.

I think they went out of sync at one point in the Change Foot Combination Spin.

Pavel was given a rose as they were coming off the ice.

That was funny. When we went to the French box, the flag was obscuring the view. Then it was lifted, to reveal a cuddly panda. Ahen Camille and Pavel popped out from behind it.

They go into 2nd position.

They both look very disappointed.

Before we left, Pavel gave the rose to Camille.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

The first post involving Camille and Pavel was an interesting observation from Canadian member @4everchan during the Warm-Up:

so 5 Russians or ethnically Russians and 1 French woman :) who married a Russian

And when it came to their turn to skate, he commented about something else that I hadn't even noticed:

Pavel's earring is a choice.

I just checked the video, and it is a hoop earring. 😲 Those things can be dangerous when skating!

Not the band @cocteautwin commented:

Not bad skate for Kovalevs. Did they change costumes?

To which my fellow British member @FlossieH replied:

Yes. They had acid green before.

@FlossieH also commented this about their programme:

Bit scrappy from the French pair, but still one of their better skates this season.

Russian member @AlexRus was doing Play By Plays during the Pairs SP, and here is their post about Camille and pavel:

2Camille KOVALEV / Pavel KOVALEV
FRA.GIF
FRA
Team France
2T -5 she mistaken
3STh -1-2
Other moderately good.

54.74 Current 2

Looking at the Protocols, there were only two elements that had issues. The Protocols don't actually have any notes explaining what was wrong, but the problems were so obvious that even I spotted them and mentioned them in my comment at the time! The second element, the Double Toe, had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.63; as well as -5 from seven Judges; -4 from Judge 4; and -3 from Judge 3. The third element, the Throw Triple Salchow, had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.82; as well as -3 from Judge 8; -2 from six Judges; and -2 from two Judges.

But everything else went really well, to the extent that the only negative number was a -1 from Judge 3 for the Step Sequence. All the other Judges marks ranged from 0 to +3. As for the GOE's, they ranged from +0.25 for the Backwards Outside Death Spiral; to +0.70 for the Change Foot Combination Spin.

Camille and Pavel are currently 9.83 points behind 5th position, Alisa EFIMOVA / Misha MITROFANOV (USA), and 11.91 points behind 4th position, Deanna STELLATO / Maxime DESCHAMPS (CAN).

For the World Team Trophy, the ISU do not add the SP and FS scores together to get an overall score. Which is a good thing for Camille and Pavel, because I think it is safe to say that they would finish in 6th and last position overall regardless of how they skate in the FS. Even if they had a good Free Skate, the gap to the two partnerships ahead of them would still be too big to overcome.

If they were in this situation at a normal event where the scores do get added together, I would say to them to just go out there and do the best you can and try to get a new SB for the FS, or even a new PB for the FS. And I would still give them that advice here. However, everybody else will be trying to do the same!

But, the main thing to take from the SP is that they have scored higher here than they did at Senior Worlds. Indeed, out of the 10 SP's they have done this season, this is their fourth highest score.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Pairs FS is due to start at 18:30:00 JST (09:30:00 GMT / 10:30:00 BST / 11:30:00 CET / 12:30:00 MSK). So 5 hours from now.

Camille and Pavel will be the 1st partnership to start. So, first partnership in Group 1.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 18:30:00 JST (09:30:00 GMT / 10:30:00 BST / 11:30:00 CET / 12:30:00 MSK). So 5 hours from now.

Camille and Pavel are due to start at 18:38:00 JST (09:38:00 GMT / 10:38:00 BST / 11:38:00 CET / 12:38:00 MSK). So 5h 8m from now.

World Team Trophy Senior Pairs FS: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta1w5bvYNJU

Camille and Pavel finished 6th out of 6 in the FS, with a score of 107.45. This meant that they remained in 6th position overall, with a score of 162.19.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread during the Warm-Up (actually, I missed the first half of the Warm-Up due to replying to another post, so I watched it again and added bits in just before writing this report):

They hadn't even been introduced yet and Camille and Pavel were already in character! Shooting us with their fingers, and blowing away the smoke.

Both waving with both hands when they got onto the ice. They stayed together until the Warm-Up started properly, when they went their separate ways. Pavel took off his jacket, and went to the boards to leave it with their coach. Meanwhile, Camille kept her jacket on and went off on a lap of the rink.

The camera started off following Camille. She wasn't doing anything, so they switched to Pavel, who was doing shoulder stretches, and then started practicing getting into position for jumps. Then the camera switched back to Camille, who was taking off her team jacket. After handing it over, she gave a look which any married man will be familiar with, and Pavel immediately came over and joined her.

While the rinkside announcer was finishing off introducing them, they got into position, and did a very nice throw. Chris Howarth on commentrary said "Well, that's looking great. That's a confidence booster. Come on guys, we're rooting for you".

When all the introductions were finished, the cameras went back to Camille and Pavel, who were warming up separately. They showed Pavel first, and he did a lovely jump. And then they switched to Camille, and she did a lovely jump too!Shortly afterwards, when the camera was focussed on another partnership, we saw Pavel lining up a jump, but he did it out of shot.

At one point in the second half, they were shown individually. Camille was just strolling abaout. Then they switched to Pavel, and he did a jump. Chris summed it up well when he said "He's having a bit of a struggle with the Triple Salchow, there".

After a while they showed Pavel again, and he looked exhausted. And this was less than a minute before they were due to start their programme.

I'm concerned.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about the programme:

Lovely Triple Twist to start with.

Camille fall on Double Salchow. Pavel's was lovely.

Camille good on next element. Pavel, not so much.

Axel Lasso lift lovely. As was Backwards Inside Death Spiral.

Combination spin lovely too.

As Chris said "Beautiful landing on Throw Triple Lutz".

They are really getting into it during Choreographic Sequence.

Reverse Lasso Lift beautiful.

Ach, hand down on Throw Triple Salchow.

But, a very good finish.

Pavel is absoutely shattered. He's down on the ice and can't get up after they finish.

Camille comes over and has a word, and then he starts doing press ups! :drama:

I love this programme, and will miss it when they drop it.

Oh my goodness! When we went to the box, Kévin Aymoz was sitting in between them dressed as a Japanese schoolgirl. And then he ran off behind them to let them sit together.

They go into the lead, obviously.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Not the band @cocteautwin was first to comment about the programme, saying:

Fine job by Camille and Pavel, I liked it, especially first throw, choreo and last lift

To which Canadian member @4everchan replied:

i also liked the death spiral and the pair spin which was different

He then disagreed with something that was said in the commentary:

they certainly doubled that salchow, chris :)

To which my friend in Sicily, @elektra blue, replied:

what does he know? :ROFLMAO:

Anyway, back to the point. Our resident video archive list compiler, @labgoat, noticed the same thing that I did during the Warm-Up:

These skaters are so tired. Even with the mistakes this is still a decent outing for the Kovalevs to end the season. Overall they end on a positive note. Now rest and heal for next season.

I agree with that sentiment entirely!

Looking at the Protocols, there were three issues, all of which I picked up on at the time! (Makes a change!) As well as Camille falling, the second element, the Triple Salchow, was under-rotated. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.72; and -5 from all nine Judges. The next element was a Triple Toe-Single Toe-Single Axel done in sequence, where the Triple Toe was landed on the quarter. It had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.50; as well as -5 from two Judges; -4 from two Judges; -3 from four Judges; and -2 from Judge 9.

There were no more problems until the penultimate element, the Throw Triple Salchow. It had the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.82; along with -2 from seven Judges; and -1 from two Judges.

And that was it in terms of the elements with negative GOE. All the other elements had positive GOE, ranging from +0.32 for the Backwards Inside Death Spiral, to +0.73 for the Group 3 Lift at the end of the programme. All the Judges marks for these elements were in the range 0 to +2, with the exception of a -1 that Judge 5 gave for the aforementioned Backwards Inside Death Spiral.

Camille and Pavel finished the Free Skate 10.22 points behind 5th position, Alisa EFIMOVA / Misha MITROFANOV (USA), and 26.9 points behind 4th position, Deanna STELLATO / Maxime DESCHAMPS (CAN).

Overall, Camille and Pavel were 20.05 points behind 5th position, Efimova / Mitrofanov, and 38.81 points behind 4th position, Stellato / Deschamps.

Finishing last in both segments and overall, considerably far behind the partnership that finished directly ahead of them, is not the way Camille and Pavel would have wanted to finish their season. However, when you look at their actual scores in the context of their whole season, it wasn't actually as bad as it may seem. Out of the 10 events they competed at this season, they achieved their fourth highest SP score, their third highest FS score, and their third highest overall score.

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

There is no doubt that Pavel's injury from last season is still casting a shadow over them. But hopefully they will be able to compete to their full ability by the time the new season starts.

I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Since I did it for Day 1, it would be remiss of me to not quote the comments I posted about Camille and Pavel when they appeared on screen during the other segments on Days 2 and 3.

Here is what I wrote in the Free Dance thread when Evgeniia LOPAREVA / Geoffrey BRISSAUD (FRA) were getting their scores:

It may not be my taste in music, but even I have to admit that that was some programme from Zhenya and Geoff.

These two have really come into their own this season. I have to admit, they didn't really come up on my radar before.

Even after the other team members popped up behind them, Camille is still nearly completely hidden behind Geoffrey! Is that Pavel dressed up as Cookie Monster? 🍪

Anyway, they go into 2nd in the FS, and 1st overall. (Yes, I've started keeping track of the combined scores, because the ISU aren't).

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote in the Men's FS thread when Kévin AYMOZ (FRA) was getting his scores:

Oh, drat. It never occurred to me that we might get a different Kévin to yesterday.

But, we needn't have worried. He made a few small mistakes but, on the whole, it was the good Kévin!

His team-mates are delighted. They give him a guard of honour coming off the ice.

Awww, loved the first clip in the highlights, when it showed him slapping hands with his team-mates before he got into the starting position.

Thinking about these two things together, I'm starting to wonder if that was his swansong skate.

Camille is back in the pig costume, and Zhenya back in the duck costume.

He goes into 2nd in both the FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote in the Ladies FS thread when Léa SERNA (FRA) was getting her scores:

Looks like the French skaters are struggling to get through this event.

Pavel looked shattered at the end of his and Camille's FS earlier, and now Léa looks shattered at the end of her FS.

Camille back in the pig costume. (I don't see Pavel). No sign of the duck costume. Zhenya is wearing one of those silly aerial / ear thingys. And Adam is now a Minion.

She goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

It was so good to see them having fun with their team-mates.
