Canadian Ice dance has been through a hurricane. Many splits and retirements have led to 4 new promising teams, all representing Canada.

Marjorie Lajoie and Jean-Luc Baker = Bakerie

Hannah Lim and Zachary Lagha = Lila

Sandrine Gauthier and Paul Ayer = Spa

Alicia Fabbri and Marko Gaidajenko = Alma

Before we see them skate competitively, which for most should happen at Championnats québécois d'été on August 7 (Rhythm dance) and August 8 (Free dance), which team do you think will be most successful ?

Feel free to elaborate in the discussion part of the thread, especially if you have picked "None of the above"

I hate to choose because I hope all are very successful. But I was impressed with Lila's announcement video. Hannah and Zach look wonderful together. Perhaps Bakerie have the edge because they can compete internationally this year - and are also incredibly talented skaters (see how Jean Luc gets his sea legs back by late autumn). Lila will have to play a bit of catch-up because of this. But next year (27-28) will be very revealing when the international judges get to, well make their judgments.

I am actually looking forward to the season now. Much as I regretted the splits and loved the former combinations of skaters, these seem really nice now. I am glad to see Jean-Luc back who I have always thought to be a great skater, and with Marjorie. That does seem a great combination. Hence my choice to put them first.

A pity I'll only be able to see Zach and Hannah in Canadian competitions, but it is the country with the most Free Streams, so I'll still be able to watch.

I don't know at all what to think of Spa and Alma yet. Exciting times!

I agree.

Regarding Spa, I think they look really good together on the ice. It will be harder for them to adjust because Sandrine is so young but she has a wonderful partner in Paul. I think they could play the "steamy" vibe à la Weapo (in a much shorter version)

Alma : I have a "newbie to the Canadian team" crush on Marko. And I have always adored Alicia. I hope they do well. They have a spark already and could play that cool, funky vibe.

Lila : this could be my preferred team and that's why I voted for them. Perfect lines. More classical approach. Ice dance tradition. Depth.

Bakery : I agree they have the edge for now. Excellent skaters with lots of experience. I think Skate Canada will push them too.
