I was thinking more of the second group, to be honest. Maxim Kovtun, Shoma Uno, Max Aaron. There has been so much outrage recently at Maxim's PCS at Mordovian ("Maxim 85.40? In what reality") Shoma Uno's at SA ("A barely out of juniors skater getting 84.30 is unheard of!") and Max Aaron's ("81.30 with no choreography? Jason Brown should be getting 99!) After seeing Patrick, the judges must go "oh wait, we actually saw what 9 SS look like, nope Kovtun isn't getting a 9", right? After seeing Patrick's Mack the Knife, judges must go "oh wait, we actually saw what a 9 choreo looks like, nope Max Aaron isn't getting a 8.75 for it"... Right? Though I suppose that if Shoma skates the living daylights out of his programs, he'll get pcs equal to SA.

Can't wait for the "Chan Deflation"
The ladies PCS has gone out of ctrl as well. Hopefully with the return of Mao we will see some deflation in that field as well.

If Chan is first or second at Skate Canada, he will probably be the last skater in the first group at TEB, and that is if Denis TEN doesn't withdraw. If Ten withdraws and is replaced by a lower-ranked skater, Chan could wind up in the second group.

Right, we also have to consider Misha has (sadly) WD as well, and he was higher in the ranks than Patrick, so that plays on his favor, too.

I'm sooo nervous and excited! I really want it to be a high level competition where everyone does WELL. Go Yuzu and Patrick and Nam!
(also Brezina, please do your best)

I would love for deflation actually across the field, and PCS to go back to the good ole days when the gap between top skaters and second tier skaters wasn't insurmountable (valued at 3-4 triples) and skaters still had to execute strong content and difficult content to win, and not just because they were viewed as "more artistic". Now top skaters have moved up into the 9's but second tier skaters remain in the 7's, so there's a large gap wherein artistically "inferior" skaters need to skate lights out just to come within striking distance of top skaters with flawed programs.

Artistry is still important but it's ridiculous that some skaters need two quads and two axels and go clean just to keep up with error-riddled programs from Chan and Hanyu.

What a great observation! Yes, I wouldn't be at all surprised in Chan only got "highish" PCSs in the SP, since the judges might be in a cautious "wait and see" mode about his current skills and preparation.

Then everyone else in the first group will have to suffer in comparison.

Then we will have to wait and see if the last few skaters can top him.

It might indeed turn out to be a case of Chan-de-flation.

You really think so? Deflation in Canada? I'm extremely doubtful that would happen. PCS marks have been abused now for years. Especially with Patrick, (in my opinion of course).

patrick had nothing to do with the inflated pcs we have seen since sochi :)
he wasn't competing :)

Heheh, it looks like there was even some 'deflation' as soon as Chan left...if you want to look at it that way...
But really, we'll have to wait and see.

I posted a graphical representation of alia's information a few (well, more than a few) pages back (except it included all Grand Prix competitions, 4CC, Europeans, and Worlds since 2008, if I remember). It better shows the trend than a table.

You really think so? Deflation in Canada? I'm extremely doubtful that would happen.

Well, I'm doubtful too. But Patrick isn't the only Canadian favorite at SC. If someone's going to bring down Patrick's ability to score high in Canada with multiple falls, Nam is probably the one to do it. (I don't think immediately--judging by Nam's recent free skate--but a PCS glass ceiling under Patrick isn't going to do Canada's hopes for Nam any good. And there is an extremely good chance that Nam will outjump Patrick in competition in the near future.

I am so confused. I thought we weren't suppose to make up terms using skaters name with positive or derogatory connotations. I just hope for good skating but I do think Chan will find it tough coming back. Whoever thought of this line up for Skate Canada is great for skating and fans but not so good for some good skater. That means Brown in particular who was lucky to medal at Skate America can benefit possibly of seeing Hanyu or Chan or Nam not on the podium as Skate Canada is a far tougher field.

Based on article from icenetwork it seems Patrick is planning only one quad in free ??
Uhm....

If that's really the case, it makes Hanyu beating him pretty likely. And Nam is having pretty solid chances at beating Patrick too... but I don't really get it? I mean he wasn't in top shape in JO, but I thought his 4T looked good enough for early in the season, and stamina usually wasn't an issue.

Has to include a quad in his SP as well. Basically from reading about his comeback I've learned that he wants to get his competitions form back gradually, not really rushing it. So he might get really dangerous at Worlds. I am quite curious actually about his strategy.

Actually it doesn't really surprise me that Patrick will only attempt a single quad in the free.
Honestly watching his free at japan open it seems to me that the programm would need quite a bit of choreographic adjustment to insert flawlessy the second quad, and IMO it would be strange for him to change his choreography so much in the few weeks between japan open and skate canada, or if he had already changed it prior to JO to go for the old coreography instead of simply going for a triple toeloop instead of one of the two quad if he felt his jumps were not yet ready.
