hanyu has the better tech content, but Chan is the better skater his Chopin program is an absolute masterpiece when skated clean, i still can`t get into Hanyu`s fs for some reason Chan deserves Higher PCS when they go head to head.

Because things like performance abilities and interpretation are all subjective. We can argue till the cows come home but what is to say your idea of "being better" is indeed definitive? Hanyu's FS had a judge/referee in tears when they left the arena and he made a grown man (could be a coach or official) cry in the stands. Things like emotions are not tangible and what effects you might not effect others in the same way. So really, what makes one persons opinion superior to another's? Credentials? Because so many skaters and coaches have vouched for Hanyu's greatness and skills.

:confused2:

To me, the difference in performance style between Chan and Hanyu is this. Chan has a classic style -- even a hyperclassic style -- that should serve as a model for every young skater to try to emulate and aspire to, however far out of reach Chan's talent may seem.

Hanyu is inimitable.

At NHK, Hanyu's performance was impressive. However, marks are pretty inflated maybe due to home crowed competition??

2015 GPF is different event for Hanyu...he needs to flight to Barcelona and competition is wide open to Fernandez, Chan, Hanyu, Jin... Chan needs to add one more quad to his LP and no room for mistake. Its not easy as I say... Then, he has chance to bid Hanyu. I am so excite to watch men's GPF this year because of Hanyu and Jin.

Amongst the top skaters, I don't know if we can say this unless we are talking about the hypothetical "If they all skate clean" fantasy.

When Chan and Hanyu met at Skate Canada, I think Chan deserved all his PCS advantage in the FS. Yuzu was not anywhere near what he could be...his PCS suffered and I agree with that.

However, when one or the other makes mistakes, or is not on their game, it does not follow that they should still get the highest PCS, just because they are usually so good. For those further down the ranks, they will need to have the skate of their lives to catch the ones at the top, but they too can have a performance that lifts their PCS above what they usually get.

I think the only stable PCS category is SS...in which, I agree that Patrick is the best. In transitions, Yuzu is the best.
The other ones really depends on the day for me.
But if you think about it, SS is not as constant as one thinks. There are good days and bad days with that too.

This. Chan is the epitome of a purist, classical skater.

Hanyu is just...Hanyu.

It's been said before. Patrick, you can appreciate and understand his skating, but he's not exciting. He's just not. Yuzu is exciting and you can't understand his ability (you can't with most prodigies).

there are very few transitions in Hanyu`s program which is not surprising with all the quads in there, his footwork is nowhere near as complex as chan.

I think Patrick is exciting in his own way, but more of a "sip your wine in deep appreciation" kind of exciting. His style is similar to Yuna Kim's, and they both receive the exact same criticism of giving "dead eye performances".

Yuzuru just makes you want to foam at the mouth and spazz out when he's on.

Exactly!!!! I have no idea how the judging in skating goes. However, Patrick's classical style is a dancers dream. I definitely see why Hanyu wins and He's a fantastic skater. If they both skate to their potential I could still see a divided panel with Hanyu winning the Tech and Chan winning Components. I still see Hanyu and Patrick as better skaters than Javi. However, IMO a clean Javi wins as he's like Hanyu and Chan rolled into one skater.

Well, we have seen Patrick clean first, and now we have Hanyu's clean performances, when will we see it from Javi? Maybe this time, at Barcelona??:ghug:

This joke is 4 months too early. April Fools is on April 1st. :palmf:

That is outrageous. Either you're blind or..."non-astute" when it comes to skating, to put it nicely. Or both.

I'm just gonna leave these guidelines here, just in case if this thread gets heated again....

Keep posts constructive
Posts are welcomed and appreciated as long as they are constructive. For example, "So-and-so is a horrible skater!" is not a constructive post. An acceptable post would be "I feel so-and-so could improve their skating if ..." The best way to get your opinion(s) recognized is not to be abusive or offensive, but to be positive and communicate in a mature fashion.

1. Abuse will not be tolerated.

No flaming, harassment, trolling, ranting, profanity, abusive language (or abbreviations), personal attacks, character assassination, or discrimination. This applies to both "public" threads and private messages. Do not link out from a post or private message to these types of content.
Flaming is defined as attacking others in harsh, negative, and/or personal terms.
Harassment is persistently targeting a poster/skater for ridicule.
Trolling is defined as deliberately posting derogatory and/or inflammatory posts in order to bait other users into responding.
Ranting is posting negative, irate, and/or unconstructive (usually vague) comments. This is considered a form of trolling since ranting usually results in flame threads with little or no constructive information.
Profanity is the use of abusive, vulgar, or irreverent language.
Personal attacks include, but are not limited to, "calling out" posters, insulting a poster directly or indirectly, name-calling (i.e. bots and ubers), etc.
Character assassination is an intentional attempt to influence the portrayal or reputation of a particular poster/skater in such a way as to cause others to develop a negative, unethical, and/or unappealing perception of him or her.
Discrimination is posting comments that support or espouse hatred towards another individual or group based upon any criteria (including race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, beliefs, ethnicity, etc.).

To be honest, everytime I read that "Hanyu has no transitions" stuff, I feel like someone didn't really care to watch. Like they just didn't like him beforehand and wanted to say something that sounds like "objective" criticism or rolled a dice which PCS category to criticize and then randomly hit his arguably strongest one. It's just a big  to me.

I think Chan is the best in transitions too.
Hanyu does much two-foot skating in LP.
Only difficult entry & exit into jumps are not transitions.
