Chinese Pairs(Shen/Zhao etc) Update

Iloveaxel: I wasn't able to view this, but thanks for providing the link.

Quick question: I noticed that Jiaqi Li and Jiankun Xu are scheduled for pairs at Cup of China. Do you know anything about this pair?

They are one of the 3-4 pairs in the pipeline that may make a splash in the next two years. Ming Yao has selected two pairs who are even younger, they all come from singles.

Thoese 3-4 pairs are currently training in Beijing together with the three top pairs.
It's likely 2-3 pairs will make a debut next season, in my opinion.

Jiaqui Li/Jianku Xu made their debut at last year's 4cc.

Oh...I don't remember if I even saw 4CC last year, but I'm going to see if YouTube has any vids of this pair. Thanks for the info!

Thank you so much for the information on my favorite pair team S/Z. Bad news about P/T. I hope she recovers soon.

I wish both teams the best of luck. I hope Shen and Zhao return world-championship level. I would rather watch both teams than the Zhangs anyday.

Shen/Zhao's blog 11/02/2006

Our intense training is still underway and we’ll leave for NanJing (“Cup of China”) on Sunday. Training is going very well and we are in great shape at the moment. We watched ‘Skate America’ on TV and we are very happy that more and more (Chinese) people are getting familiar with this sport.

There are still some drawbacks in the new scoring system, if we want to get high marks, we need to focus on the quality of each element. We will also continue to increase the technical difficulties. According to our coach, we still have potential to explore!!

We’re looking forward to watching Skate Canada on TV. Wish zhang/zhang the best !!

I was not able to open the two links to S/Z test skate that were posted here.
But I went to you tube and found it. They look great. Also thanks for the
translation of their blog.

if you're going to quote any or all of a blog on a website PLEASE provide a link even if you're translating... copyrights and all, you know :)

The No. #4 Chinese Pair?

Binyao has rounded up 4-6 best junior single skaters after Olys, they will probably make a splash to Junior scene next year. All the current junior Chinese pairs you saw at Junior World Champs/Junior Grand Prix have been ditched as they were deemed to have no potential. They will only start pairs from the best Junior single skaters they can find in China.

Their current 4th pair jiaqi li/jiankun xu will make grand prix debut next week. I just watched a clip of their first international assignment at 4cc. They are only 19/15 and have good potential. They easily scored 91 points with a major spin error. Technical score was 56 points. They would probably be able to grab the gold metal if they went to last year's Junior worlds. I actually prefer this pair to younger zhang/zhang. They have better line and better looks! But their technical foundation may not be as solid as zhang/zhang's. I heard they fell on sbs jumps in a recent team test.

Li/Xu's 4cc LP.

I hope they come back strong this year. This team can match the Zhangs trick for trick, but their performances move me in a way the Zhangs dont. They also have better choreography and on-ice chemistry then the Zhangs, while matching the Zhangs incredable twists, throws, jumps.

It's good that they want to develop their strongest teams, but this sounds so :ohwell: Poor, potential-less teams...

Thanks Iloveaxel - They are a team in progress! For my own edification, can you tell me what international event they skated that brings them to the GPs?

If you mean Jiaqi LI/Jiankun XU, they placed 7th in their senior and international debut at 2006 Four Continents (mentioned above).
