Happy birthday Elena! Sweet 16. :) She is taking the skating world by storm. I figured her going from juniors to seniors would cause some problems for her. But not so far.

Meoima, Elena is an only child.

^thank you, I bet she is the best princess on ice in her parents' eye.
It seems they have covered pretty much everything for her, I wonder now that she's the National Champion, will the Fed invest more in her?

Here's a translation of the article! Of course Lena is Daddy's little princess!!

- To Dad: Who did you want - a boy or a girl?

D: A boy, of course. But I quickly realized that a daughter is such a blessing: she opens her big eyes, smiles - and a dad melts.
:)

Sounds like Igor thinks this is what always happens when a father sees his daughter's smile (which may be true). But he doesn't seem to take in to a count that his daughter happens to be Elena friggin Radionova herself. The girl with the most charming smile in recorded history. (<--- Not like this)

I mean, he would have to be a cold blooded psychopath not to melt. Sometimes, when I'm watching Elena's performance, I find myself worrying that her smile might actually melt the ice underneath her. How would she skate then! Or worse yet, the polar ice caps! My gosh, we have to warn greenpeace! Together we can stop Elena from smiling and thus prevent an environmental disaster.;)

I can relate to this! I'm a girl but Elena's smile capture my heart  I will never forget that picture of her smiling. During Russian Nationals 2013. That time, I cant relate with the hyped for the Russian ladies but then I saw her! Noticing the medal she wears in the pics, I searched to know who she is and was surprised for the talent that I saw ^^) since that day, I became a fan of her :D

Her smile might bring peace too

Well bringing peace is pretty much the theme of her free skate this season, so you are on to something there....

My story:): I was watching a lot of youtube videos of figure skaters just before the Sochi olympics. I wanted to know what kind of skaters are out there at the moment (I love winter sports, so I was really excited about the olympics). So I noticed this incredibly cute and skillful girl who was so much fun to watch. Good thing I got to see her at the exhibition (on TV) and then I found a stream for Junior World Championships. And at that time I noticed that I felt really nervous for her, and I was very happy when she won Junior Worlds:)

Similar to you, I started watching a ton of YouTube videos of figure skating during and after the Olympics. After Sotnikova won the gold, I found the short documentary by Trans World Sport about Adelina. Then I realized the topic included another skater...ELENA! It was so interesting learning about her upbringing and her journey. Even though it was days after I started following the sport, from watching that video I could tell that she was going to be a star in the future. Now that she has established herself, it will be very fun watching Elena for the years to come and her road to the Olympics...:)

Since everyone's doing it, I was just browsing YouTube for figure skating and ended up watching one her Junior Grand Prix skates, I think it was this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ8yUoJlx2Q
But anyway, her performance nearly made me cry (and that's a pretty rare feat). I adored her performance, and carried on watching videos of her - I think the next one was her gala performance to "Rolling in the Deep" and from then on I was hooked. XD

I've been watching Elena since her junior days. Thanks to my blog, I remember my exact thoughts on her the first time I saw her at JGP Courchevel: http://thenakedice.blogspot.com/2012/08/jgp-courchevel-ladies-review.html

 Nice reviews you have in there! In that JPG Courhevel one I noticed you writing about being impressed with no UR:s or e:s in Lena's performance at all. It seems to me she's never had any problems in that department. I reckon Inna has done a very good job with her when she was very young. Well, and lots and lots of repetitions, I suppose:think:

Thanks for the links, CutieP!! Looks like it was quite a party!! :agree:

 those heels... I think of Julia saying how she stays away from heels in order not to hurt her feet!

I agree with umeko_yur1tasukee, I think this is the first time I saw Elena wearing heels!
Maybe they were a birthday present?

That photo that Adelina posted is so sweet. I wondered why she deleted the other birthday message to Lena, but this more than made up for it! Much cuter photo. :)

And that reminds me of this really old photo--I didn't recognize Adelina at first! And apparently that's Kristina in the back.

Sorry for the double post, but I've been going back and watching Lena's old competitions, and I really liked the British commentary for Lena's 2013 Skate America FS:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNi6XXls2AI

The female commentator is Joanne Conway, a former singles skater, and it's really sweet how she says she hopes that someone is looking out for Lena and that she does well, because "she's just got everything." They say that Lena doesn't land hard, so it doesn't look like she'll get injured--which is the same thing that Kurt Browning said during her TEB 2014 FS. So I hope that they are right!!

Though I definitely disagree with the guy's comment about her "balletic arms"--they could definitely use some work!!
