This. The minute the deal with Orser was finalized in April, she should have called Eteri and inform, and release official statement right then, now that would have been classy. She's not first day in figure skating, knows how rumors spread, and could totally have taken control and responsibility over the situation from the start, instead she let run its course keeping silence until things went south, and came up very late with classy formal text. She either did not have the guts to do it right or did it on purpose, neither flatters her.
How do you know that she didn’t do exactly this? The pictures were removed from the group about 2 days after. If she was really keeping it secret how would they have known? Plus she had to work things out with Rus Fed who likely tried to mediate and negotiate with her to stay. Eteri had to know at that point. That takes time. Really it was only about 2 weeks or so between the Orser meeting and the unofficial announcement. All you are basing this on is Eteri’s claims and she’s shown herself to be vindictive. The fact that Rus Fed is being supportive indicates to me that she handled things in an appropriate manner.

This and Zhenya May have texted or called or even spoken in person ( though not sure about the exact dates) Eteri didn’t show us this but it doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen

Ok Eteri's bad coaching, Averbukhs crap programs, Dudakov's bad technic is a past. But what about that person that was making the dresses? Would she keep the collaboration , what do you think? This were good at least.

Yulia wanted to change coach and was forbid. Yulia was forced to stay at Eteri club until she could not stand it anymore and stopped coming to the rink on her own. Just saying politic inside Russian fed is more complicated than that.

Well, by brave I meant firstly she is moving across the world to chase her dreams which I think is quite difficult for an 18 year old and second she still cannot be sure how RusFed will treat her next season because they could push for punishing her for it. She is really risking, just look what happened to Yagudin - he left to USA and never won Russian Nats, and while I don't think it's that important to Evgenia to be the Russian Champion (although I would imagine to some extent it is important cause she's so patriotic) she has to be in the top three to go to Worlds, Olys etc. and there is a remote probability that RusFed will push her out of the top three.

Since Rusfed gave her the green light (and in fact gave her a pretty unprecedented exception), she's not risking much on that front. And moving across the world is something many young people do (especially international students), and without their mom or the financial resources that Evgenia has.

Have you ever say you hate someone in the heat of the moment? I can’t tell you how many times I said something while sad or angry that I wish I could have take back and I’ m an adult woman. If Evgenia said something, she told in emotional stage that is not normal, and in confidence with her coach of 11 years, she surely was expecting privacy or at least understanding and empathy. Evgenia gets no judgement from me, but I have say before the fact that Eteri decided to made public comments made in confidence does not sit well with me, for me is like a psychiatrist talking about the confidence a patient has made to him, Eteri was in a position of power and of confidence, surely Evgenia expected here to respect her confidence.

I completely agree with with what you've written, cruzceleste. We do not know the context or even the accuracy of this fragment of a private conversation. I remember reading much earlier this year that there had been uncertainty in the Russian team about moving Alina up to Seniors; if true, Evgenia could simply have had a moment's anguished wishing for how events might have gone. She seems a very bright, kind, and loyal young person, with great personal dignity and pride in being a true sportswoman. To me it's very unlikely that she would have said and truly meant what Eteri claims. But whatever the reality of all that--we will never know, we are not Gods--there was absolutely a gross breach of confidence. I was so sorry when I read it, that Eteri would speak in such a way. In contrast I think of Evgenia's statement to Orser at the beginning of their April meeting that she would never say anything critical of her Russian coaches, which had his immediate respect. I hope this change of coaches will soon be remembered by everyone just as a positive move undertaken in a difficult & complicated situation.

ICYMI - Averbukh challenged Orser to do better choreography than him 😂 he must have missed the part where Brian isn’t a choreographer....

This totally. When I heard that she said that, I'd imaging she said it when she was an emotionally spent place and was so low-energy and frustrated that she couldn't be at 100 percent.

I was at this place yesterday and I told my husband (in the same emotionally spent place after a day of Toddler P being cling-on ALLLLL DAAY while I was trying to get work done), "Why does my daughter have to love me so much! Can't she cling to you for once?!" I'm hoping that my husband doesn't go on national tv mentioning this comment and make everyone think that I wished my daughter didn't love me.

She has had some beautiful dresses. Even when I've been lukewarm (or worse) to Evgenia's programs, I've often loved those.

He did? I’m sorry, but Brian could probably do better choreo than Averbukh, and the choreographers that Brian works with will definitely give Zhenya better programs.

Unless you think miming a telephone call is the height of great choreo:confused:

But at the same time... several friends of mine living in Russia have jumped in and told me something like...

Friend 1: "I read that Med sent text to Eteri telling her to keep Alina in junior?"
Friend 2: "Oh it turned out 01 year before Olympic, Med asked Eteri to keep alina in junior?"

Me: "Where the hell that kind of information was from?"

I wonder what kind of twisted news the media has done and how much on Med's reputation has suffered?

Now NBC, Daily Failed and Japanese news kinda reported the same on Med.

Eteri has done enough damage. People might be thinking: "This girl is vile!"

While in reality it's her coach who is vile. Well done, Eteri!

Now that Orser gave an additional info it became more clear what Evgenia did. Utterly disrespectful and immature way to leave a coach with whom you worked for 11 years :disagree:
Looking at the comments at sports.ru it's a "from hero to zero" situation.

I was wondering where russianfan was yesterday when it all went down! Here you are hopefully not starting fires. ;)

Looking back I wish Zhenya did not go public with how she was staying with Eteri 2 months ago. Mistakes were made but they are human afterall with great emotions. I dont think Eteri should have said what she said a couple days ago. it's over. Good luck to all involved.

On FS Universe Muffinplus has translated into English an interview with Maxim Trankov:

Trankov's interview:
•I don’t know why Medvedeva’s coach change caused such a reaction, said Trankov. A coaching change, and so what? Nothing special.
•The subject of Medvedeva’s coaching change overshadowed Lokomotiv’s win and Hockey World Championships. That’s why I’m interested in knowing your views, as an Olympic champion
•I understand why Zhenya made such a decision. She wants to continue her athletic career because as a great champion she understands that she could have become an Olympic Champion but, unfortunately, something didn’t work out. So naturally she wants to get another chance, and she has time to do so .
•Why couldn’t she become Olympic champion in Tutberidze’s group?
•History has shown that in Eteri Georgievna’s group, when a new star comes along, the old star is no longer needed. At first it was Polina Shelepen who got all the attention and who won everywhere. Then it was Yulia Lipnitskaya, and after Evgenia Medvedeva appeared. And right now it’s Alina Zagitova. Zhenya doesn’t want to repeat the path of her predecessors and finish her career, so she made the only decision that made sense for her – to try and continue her career in another coaching team. I think this decision not to hang up the skates and to continue skating should only be welcomed
•Now Medeveva will be living in Canada. Will it be less complicated for her there?
•In North America, there are are a lot of positive factors for her. There is also one other very important thing – Eteri Georgievna never worked with adult athletes, she is a coach whose main specialty is coaching young girls, and Zhenya is a mature young woman. Eteri Georgievna is A+ when it comes to coaching junior girls who become Olympic champions, but they are still juniors. As for what results she will have with an adult skater – we don’t know. So Medvedeva’s choice of Orser is understandable as he had results with already accomplished athletes - Javier Fernandez, Yuzuru Hanyu and Canadan skaters, including Meaghan Duhamel (ummmm, what ? what will Meaghan have to say about this one )
•What are Brian Orser’s strengths?
•I cannot make any specific comments since I don’t know him as a coach or anything about his methods.
•What do you think about the media war between Medevdeva and Tutberidze?
•Eteri Georgievna is a tough coach, naturally. I know Zhenya well and I know that she is an intelligent, measured and polite individual. Intelligent beyond her years. So I don’t understand why it was necessary to make public on National TV private conversations. There is always a trust between an athlete and a coach, you tell them things you wouldn’t tell anyone else. Maybe things you wouldn’t even tell your mom but you would tell your coach because of how much time you spend with them. And in this situation, to air everything out for public judgement, despite some misunderstanding that happened, is not really right. We had some differences with Nina Mikhailovna Mozer, but she never allowed herself to air our private conversations in public. I don’t want to think about who won this media war, but personally, I didn’t like hearing about personal business of a coach and an athlete on National TV.
•Do you think Medvedeva-Tutberidze relationship will get better over time?
•I’m sure Zhenya Medvedeva never had a fight with anyone. Eteri Georgievna is a Southern, hot-blooded temperamental individual. Maybe after some time she will cool down, as for Zhenya, I’m sure she never had a fight with anyone. I don’t have any reason to think she has any ill will towards her coach. I’ll repeat – Medvedeva is a very reasoned, balanced, tactful individual. By the way, were just at show in Korea together, where Orser was also present there
•Did you understand then that Medvedeva is moving to him?
•There were no hints whatsoever that they are talking or something like that. Everything was out in the open, no hidden games. Although, there were rumors that Zhenya is leaving Eteri Georgievna right after the Olympics
•Do you think Medvedeva will be cordial with Tutberidze at their next meeting after their personal conversations were made public (by Tutberidze) ?
•I am sure that when they will run into each other at competitions. Zhenia will say hello. That’s all and there won’t be any issues. She will never be rude. I don’t know a more decent person in skating than Medvedeva.

Thank you.

I always have been pretty neutral to all coaches, and never bought into x or y coach is evil. But definitely hearing what Eteri did was bizarre to say the least

Oh, I really hope your husband did record you, don´t worry we girls turn into daddy´s princess by 5yo

She has had some beautiful dresses. Even when I've been lukewarm (or worse) to Evgenia's programs, I've often loved those.

That's what I've been thinking. Can Olga move to Canada too? 😁

I've never liked her dresses, except the Anna Karenina ones. They're always too long and floppy, and make her look even more skinny because they cover her tighs

Everyone should give Trankov a cookie. :hap93: The most rational guy when it comes to talking about 3rd parties. I love his gossips too.
