Evgenia Medvedeva

She did well considering the circumstances. There's no reason to except Olympic scores so early in the season. At last week's Senior B comps, the highest SP scores were 65 & 67. Which is including a fellow Russian and a consistent medalist and competitor to Evgenia. She's on the right track, don't freak out too much.

It was so nice seeing her back out there competing. I liked her SP, the dress and her look. I thought she did a good job considering.

Yeah, people seem to forget that she had 2 very serious injuries (foot and back), had to start her season late and in a completely different environment where her basics are being reworked - and had she skated it like she did at test skates she would have scored higher already, but obviously she was nervous after everything that went on.

Let's cut her some slack and be happy that she's competing!

No, we shouldn't expect the same level of dominance as before... I'm happy that she's competing, and I'm excited for her free program tomorrow.

I can't stop myself from being concerned though...

I want to see the protocols. Whether they called her Lutz or not, it may be a good idea to swap it with a loop. I mean, ISU used her Loop as an example for +5 for a reason.

Her edge looked like a '!' in slow-mo not like an e in my eyes. Hope they gave her only a '!'.
Well they removed on of the Lutzes from the FP. We will see if they also remove it from the SP but I think they won't.

The competition is now halfway through the last group, only a few skaters left. I assume (hope) we'll have protocols once the competition is over?

A few thoughts.

Yes, she was nervous, yes that wasn't the best 2A we've seen from her in the past couple of weeks, yes the program needs filling out with more one foot skating, but really it's all fine.

We know by who's on it that it's a tough tech panel. We're seeing reviews going on given the lengthy time to score. No one will be getting an easy ride from this panel.

Frankly, I'm glad this is happening now. I'm more concerned that so much of the JGP went by without this level of second consideration on how to apply the new scoring. Better to get the feedback in September.

And I really like her dress. It's got an authentic jazz-age styling. And it flatters without being overtly provocative.

Yes. They really take their time with the scores at Autumn Classics whereas they pop out the results in seconds at JGP. If they would review so much at JGP we would definitely see more edge calls and - GOE. So many mistakes were overlooked at the JGP so far.

Love Zhenya’s program! I’m glad she’s competing and adjusting her skating.

I know it’s just CS and it’s all good but I still can’t help being a bit concerned, I mean this was one of the lowest SP scores we’ve seen from her in a looong time.

Because a lot of you are worried, I want to share this with you. It's Yuzuru's old interview after his move to TCC. Zhenya is in similar situation right now :) She has so many things to learn and to remember. She probably even has to relearn crossovers. So let's give her some time :)

Thank you.

Yes, I watch Yuzu meltdown at Skate America 2012 placing third in the FS behind his co-patriots Takahikko Kozuka and Tatsuki Machida, which lead him to losing that GP to Take (he was 1st after the GP). Yuzu used to have MAJOR stamina issues and Brian and Co. really worked on that.

Jason, in his interview with USFS Fanzone, basically said that Tracy really helped him with his skating skills too and that her stroking exercises were tough for him.

Even though this wasn’t Zhenya’s best performance, it’s always a pleasure to see her skate. Hopefully this will motivate her to execute a solid tango program in the free skate! Whatever the end result is, I’ll always be a proud and dedicated supporter. Zhenya rekindled my love for figure skating during a really difficult time in my life and I am so, so, grateful for her contribution to the sport.

Also- I think her dress suits her very nicely! Zhenya always looks so sophisticated in black!

I think this season it will be tough to be a Zhenya fan. She’s going to struggle, that’s a given. But I have every ounce of faith that she will fight and improve as much as she can. I can already tell how hard she’s working and this situation is so difficult. I believe in her 100%, remember this is a four year project. Not a two month project.
