Evgenia Medvedeva

Even though this wasn’t Zhenya’s best performance, it’s always a pleasure to see her skate. Hopefully this will motivate her to execute a solid tango program in the free skate! Whatever the end result is, I’ll always be a proud and dedicated supporter. Zhenya rekindled my love for figure skating during a really difficult time in my life and I am so, so, grateful for her contribution to the sport.

Also- I think her dress suits her very nicely! Zhenya always looks so sophisticated in black!

:agree: And because of Zhenya i watched the juniors and I'm on Golden skate. :)

She was clearly very nervous there, which affects the program since it calls for a carefree, flirty vibe, but I think there's plenty of potential there once she gets more comfortable with the program.

Anyone found the protocols ?

I believe they haven't been posted yet. They should be here under judges' scores for ladies' short program. But I looked at the video frame by frame -- on the quarter mark for the 3lz, and forward on the landing of the 3t. I'm not sure about this, but maybe the technical panel downgraded the 3t? Unlucky. 2a was good, lacking at most 45 degrees besides the step out.

You're right. On the combo her 3T is very underrotated. I couldn't tell in real-time but it's clear in frame by frame. Lutz looks perfectly rotated and 2A is just off a bit. If they called it, I think it'd be because of the off landing and not because it was *actually* super under.

Wow I love this program, did not care about the lower than usual score or she was obvious nervous; she just needs to get the first competition out of the way! But I also think it's quite a departure from her previous styles and wonder if her fans, who like what she did before, will have a hard time liking/accepting/adjusting to this? Just curiosity on my part.

I love it and I do not particularly like jazz programs. She's a beautiful skater.

Protocol are out! The 3t was actually not called under but her lutz got a !
Negative GOE on the 2A, but also not called under.

The spins are all level 4 with positive GOE, but the step sequence was a level 3.

Her TES is slightly lower than Bradie, but PCS is higher, particularly SS (see progress!).

Tomorrow. She is skating next to last after Brady - is that good or bad? And is it better that the fp is tomorrow or would Saturday be better?

I was so nervous watching her skate, and she clearly was very tense at the beginning, but by the end with the step sequence she was selling it so well. My face hurt from smiling so hard. She clearly loves this program, and I’m so excited to watch it grow and develop as she gets more comfortable with it/they add in content. Personally I loved the dark dramatic stuff she had going in previous years and I’m kind of sad that we won’t see that this year, but when Zhenya pours her soul into a program, it’s hard not to love it.

The program itself is not bad (she should still go to Bourne next season though), but you really need to SELL the program. Med needs to get more comfortable with it, and once it settles in, it'll be better.

Costume is nice but skirt is too short.

Is it just me or has she filled out over the summer? As in she looks more womanly.

I really like the program on her. She needs a lot more mileage on it and it needs to be tweaked a bit but it has loads of potential.

I thought I was imagining things but it definitely looked like she gain some healthy weight. It was one of the things that distracted me a bit when I watched her skating in the previous years.

Brian mentioned that Zhenya was working with a nutritionist in his interview in the September issue of Piruette magazine. This makes me happy that she’s getting professional advice on her eating habits. This is one area where her previous coaching situation was completely off base.

Well, it wasn't perfect but at least she's in first place. I sure hope she remembers the choreography for the free skate this time. Also, she's definitely a woman now. There's no doubt about it. Which is good because she can sell sexy for the tango.

I'm a huge fan of the program, it's going to end up being a fantastic vehicle for her. I love the sass, the dress, the makeup, the choreo, the music - everything. Hopefully she got nerves out of the way. I thought her score was fair and it has lots of room to grow into. The judges left plenty in TES and PCS to go up once she is more comfortable and gets more mileage in! Let's see what the FP is like when she remembers the choreography. Ha ha...

Honestly I'm not that worried about the score. It's still over 70... And as others have said there is a lot of room to grow into it. I like that it is a bit of a risk for her. So for all the changes she's gone through this summer plus the nerves of competing for the first time after all these changes I think it's a pretty good first outing.

I'm excited to see this program develop. I like sassy Med!

I do not like the dress! The bottom half okay, the top no. I hope she changes the dress.

Needs more snap and accentuation of her arms and less bent arms as she skates a long. I felt a little disconnect between her and the music. I know she was nervous. She has picked two new genres of music and is training differently, trying new techniques. I wonder if this was too much change at once. Maybe it would have been better to pick a style a little more familiar to her for one of the programs. I just want her to be on top this year because the mix of skaters will change next year :/

Sorry to nit pick, these are just my worries!

Zhenya also rekindled my interest in skating too!
