Evgenia Medvedeva

I don't think so. It takes much more than that for Med to snap.

I think so... at least this is the major upset... She considers that she did all she could do and all she was taught to get the OGM and it's Eteri's fault that she wasn't better equipped (tech content, especially).
Also, probably she sees all the quad youngsters and realizes that a change might be her only chance to stay competitive and judges to consider her still in the game.

It's simple... Evgenia blames Eteri for not winning the OGM.

I think it’s more a bunch of factors:

- the way her injury was managed, having her skate injured at NHK for example
- having to train with the quads tees
- Eteri’s method of endless run throughs not working with the body of an adult, potentially dangerous (stress fracture to prove it)
- wanting to improve/work with new choreographers and feeling like she can’t do that at Sambo under Eteri

Honestly, i think she could work with others choreographers if she wanted. If i recall correctly, Julia worked with Zueva and Eteri went with her in USA...

One of the reasons can be the long-standing conflict between the technical upgrade (Med) and the safe option (Eteri). There were insides that Zhenya asked for upgrades for two years and desperately requested after Europe Championship. She was ready to risk, Eteri didn't. It is obvious that she was told by her team that if she'll skate clean old program she wins. She managed this but lose, so she definitely has questions.
But if Zhenya saw her future for next four years in this group she would have swallow her pride. But may be in the next season Med was also considered by Eteri's team as the same old insurance for Alina in the puberty and debutante Panenkova and not considered as serious candidate for next Olympics.

Hello!

As it happened to a lot of people, after watching Zhenya at the Olympics I fell in love with her skating. I've been lurking here for a while, but decided to make an account just to say I think she's being incredibly brave.

I don't think this is an Adelina/Yulia situation, I think it's the opposite. She wants to continue. She wants to fight. She wants to be on top. She doesn't want to be just one of the many 'Eteri girls' that come and go, she wants to be Evgenia Medvedeva. She wants to take charge of her own destiny and create her own, unique path. It takes guts, it takes confidence, it takes determination, and she's showing us she absolutely has all these qualities.

Whether it will work out for her, it remains to be seen. There's lots she can't control. But I can't help admiring her courage, taking the step into the unknown. It would be very easy just to keep her head down and stay with Eteri, accepting her fate as an 'older' skater. But she's not doing that, she's not going down without a fight.

Inside that fragile-looking body, there is a lioness. But we knew that already, right? ;)

I can't wait to see what she does next!

It was wise from Eteri's part not to upgrade the program after Europeans. It wouldn't have worked out and she would have lost the Silver.
It would have been necessary to work on the upgrade the season before the Olympics.

Do you have insider information after the Olympics? Is is true, that Eteri wanted Zhenya to skate in Milan?

At the medal ceremony with Putin she did ask him for a new rink at their school. I wonder why would she do this if she knew she wouldn't be skating there anyway. I guess the decision was made later during the shows. Maybe she got an offer from another coach?

I think gratitude and paying back your alma mater is a thing for some ppl. :)

She did skate at that Korean show directed by Brian Orser in mid-April. Soon afterwards, she deleted all those pics with Yuzuru. I wonder if it was just a coincidence, because to me it would make sense to delete the pics after accepting an offer from the TCC - Discouraging the rumours/shipping becomes more of a pressing matter if they are going to be training mates, for a number of reasons.

Selfish me thinking about her going to Canada and one of the things that pops to my mind is her doing more English content

Let me lighten up the situation (again!) . I had a silly thought during the Olympics that Brian saw her win her two silvers (like him) and approached her & was like um no miss, you will get only gold if you train with me 😝.

This makes sense.

On a side note I guess we wont hear anymore denials from Zhenya about leaving Eteri. ;)

In the end she made a strong decision for change.
