Evgenia Medvedeva

just woke up (i was up all night stressing lol) and although after sleeping on it i am a LITTLE disappointed she’s in fourth, i realize how ridiculous that is because she’s here, at worlds, after a clean short with a really good score. ❤️ rewatched her program as soon as i woke up and it always makes me smile how much the b.esp commentator capes for her. 😂💕

I wish the free was tomorrow instead of Friday. Also, do you think she will do WTT?

I‘d love if the FS was tomorrow for simply selfish reasons (waiting is killing me) but I think it‘s better for the skaters to have a free day in between the skates. I‘m not so sure about WTT... If she gets invited, why not? But I also think it conflicts with some of her shows and Liza might be invited because she didn‘t get to do Worlds.

There are rumors that Elizaveta is going to WTT, and I actually believe them. So, it's Alina and Elizaveta then.

Hmm seems possible and totally fair. Selfishly I wish Zhenya would go to WTT to get a higher SP season's best because I'm a little bitter at the judging inconsistencies here. lol

Today, Zhenya completely sold her short program. This is where I (of course very subjectively) see her - serious content, showing emotions, fully into character. Wish her good luck for the free.

Of course this is completely subjective and I'm biased, but I can't help but think that Zhenya is the skater that has the best emotional connection to music/her programs, and she has been ever since she was 16. Of course she's had programs where this isn't the case, but the majority of programs and exhibitions she's had in her senior career just demonstrate her ability to really project her emotions through her skating. It's just that star power and unique quality that sets her apart. She's so special :)

With that being said, WakaZhenya came back briefly, I miss them together! This is so sweet https://twitter.com/MedvedevaNation/status/1108468543501283328?s=19

I would love that, too, even though I’ll understand it if Liza went there. It would be fair.

Still, last time Zhenya went there her scores were crazily high. Of course that won‘t happen this time but WTT is known for lenient judging, so she‘ll certainly get higher scores than here. I think it was good that she posted a higher SB for the SP. If the FS holds up and she gets a SB, too, she‘d improve and get higher in the ranking. I think she won‘t have troubles getting GP spots either way but I assume it might help with reputation and of course, most importantly, more self-confidence. Ending the season with a SB would be a wonderful result and we can only hope that this will happen.

Funny thing: TAT today was..I don't know, somewhat lukewarm on Zhenya. Of course, she didn't say anything bad about her, just was far, far from her usual self when commentating Zhenya's skating. But guys ftom another channel, (one in particular, who was rather harsh before during GP, and not only about skating, also about her decision, her new programmes etc.), they were rooting for her so much.

Uhh I just watched TAT commentary and I wouldn’t say lukewarm.. more like she got really disappointed that the judges gave her an UR on the combo, and basically went down the path that it’s not the hardest content, did better in all practice runs, not sure why it came out now - probably nerves, blah blah. Anyways I suspect she was disappointed that the judges weren’t lenient towards her like to others and it won’t help her get a super score despite everything else

Aw, love WakaZhenya! And I miss Wakaba in general...

I love her Charlie Chaplin program from when she was twelve.

Normally I think going first is not good, but I think it will work out well for her. No time to think, and you are warmed up. She skated second at Boston and won.

Interesting. She has had success skating early so she could be fine unless she gets squeezed by judges for going first in the last group.

I'm not worried, because the second to last group did not get squeezed out, so I don't think the first skater in the final group will. Plus she's in fourth, not Sixth place.

to sneak in a bit more positivity in here (because i really am happy overall with how the short turned out) — i think this may be one of the best skates i’ve seen from her in terms of the all-around package. expressive, attention to detail (especially in the beginning, her arm movements felt extra delicate, omg). the jumps looked much better here than even at russian cup final imo, especially her axel. spins have improved. the confidence is there. the fight is there. she’s really breathtaking. i’m not saying it was her BEST SKATE EVER OMG, but in my humble opinion it actually was one of her strongest sp outings, at least from what i can remember.

I was feeling a little disappointed for Zhenya but I was just thinking that right now she probably has the best support ever from her team. Tracy, Brian and Misha today also. They don't sit there rolling their eyes or being angry when she messes up. She came from a system that dropped people when they weren't performing well and there were always several younger girls waiting to take her place. Of course in competition she has to face everything but at least her team is there for her. They are not going to abandon her and that really is beautiful.

Thanks for your positivity! I love your posts. :)

Yes, Zhenya was on fire. She performed, especially during the step sequence. I don‘t think she‘s quite there yet with her jumps. She‘s said it herself, we‘ve all seen it. Practice is still on another World, quality wise. Which is great, given that this means she has lots of chances to grow. It‘s as simple as that: Muscle memory is still lacking. That‘s why we see such huge changes between competition and practice. When there‘s pressure, it‘s more likely to fall back to old habits. But she‘s improved on that throughout the season and I think it will get only better during the off-season when she has time to properly focus on that.

But, due to the issues mentioned, I wouldn‘t say it was her best performance ever. It was definitely her strongest performance this season, though. German Eurosport guys really liked her, btw. Said they were so happy for her and Brian and that this was needed and good for her confidence to prove her that “the way she chose was the right one“. (going to Canada) They went on to talk about how courageous her move to Canada was.

And of course they talked about her seasons of dominance (commentators always do) This is pretty strange (for lack of a better word) for me because I feel like the Zhenya of then and the Zhenya now are two totally different people. The core is still there, the strength, the willpower, the ability to fight and the love for the sport, that hasn‘t changed. But her general attitude, her way of thinking and especially expressing herself on the ice - it‘s just so different.

But I like to remember that: Zhenya‘s strength that made her sweep the senior ranks two years in a row. Her strength that made her perform three clean skates at the Olympics with an injured foot. That‘s still there. Just her way of living and thinking has changed. And I think that‘s good. She‘s growing up, experiencing new things, people and way of thinking and living. I‘m proud of her. And I think she‘s said a very clever thing in her SP: Zhenya is not medal obsessed. So, this SP for her was an achievement most of all because she left the ice with positive feelings. And that‘s what we should do: Be positive and support her. And hope for only one thing in the FS: more of it. More smiles, more happiness, a clean skate and a positive feeling after leaving the ice.

^ oh no, definitely not her best ever. but definitely the best of the season, and for me personally, one of the most sincere and touching short programs i’ve ever seen from her. 😳☺️💕
