Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

This Program is way too simple to win , nothing really stands out, no risk taking with the lifts, weak transitions my Money is on the Italians at Euros.

I suggest to give them the benefit of the doubt. We just don't know how judges will react. No one would have bet on them last year.
I think they can improve until Euros.
And please, how can we blame them in taking no risk, she just had a concussion by falling on a Choctaw, understandable that they have some reluctance in throwing her almost above his head ala Chock/Bates, and that they are cautious in everything. It will come back with time.

This is a "fan" thread right?:scratch2:

:agree: x1,000!

Many congrats and 'Otsukare-sama!' to Gabriella/Guillaumefor defending the national title , which we, the mere skating fans ;) would imagine it wasn't easy at all especially after her very very unfortunate head injury...
Personally I didnot expect them coming back to competitions such sooner, because even without showing up at the F-Nats, they probably got a 'bye' to the Euro and Worlds by their federation; literally a piece of cake, unlike Japanese skaters (JSF NEVER gives a 'bye' to Oly Games, Worlds, 4CC without them competing at J-Nats no matter what!).

Anyway, there are plenty of time till end January and March. All I can say now is:

Welcome back, our World Champions! We, skating fans really look forward to seeing how their programs this season are going to mature/progress with time.

oh I forgot to add! Guillaume this season is :o: and . For that matter, he's got a pretty good/tough competition with Andrew Poje for me. :)

Robredo40, with all due respect, this is a fanfest and there is a difference between fans expressing some disappointment in a programme if that is their opinion whilst still writing positively about Gabriella and Guillaume because they are, you know, fans and coming here to write nothing but negative things. At the moment, it really seems like you are just doing the latter and this isn't really the best place for that.

Yes X 1,000,000! Considering how delicate recovering from concussions can be, I don't know why some aren't more understanding that they are being careful getting back their elements. And P/G are both 21 years old, correct? They have more than enough time in their careers - and health should always be the most important priority.

We still have a month until Europeans and two more months after that until Worlds. That's plenty of time to continue to improve. Nobody should have peaked right now anyway.

But what are the elements that they should "get back"? I think we saw already last season and before that that they are not the kind of team that goes for acrobatic lifts (like Chock/Bates). Their lifts were not particularly "difficult" (at least not in the way that many people here consider difficult), they were beautiful, very well executed, perfectly weaved into the choreography and accentuating the music wonderfully. And no one seemed to mind, with very rare exceptions. I saw very, very few complaints that their lifts were not difficult enough. As for other elements, their twizzles actually seem to be more synchronous than last season, and their spin is the same (that is, good). As for steps, I am not an expert on that, but if they are not quite perfect and not always as fast as they have been before, I think it's completely normal for the first competition of the season.

Here is a link to a video with the music and the skating recorded at the same time (and not the music put over the video from FFSF).

Thank you for the link! Does anyone else think the costumes in the FD essentially reflect the blue and red of the French flag but in different tones against the white ice. So it reflects "Building a Home" in Toronto but still being French? Or I might be overthinking this!

On the one hand I completely agree. A concussion is a very serious injury and I certainly wasn't expecting Marlie level throw her around like pizza dough lifts. But I'm not going to apologize that, as a huge fan of theirs, I'm disappointed with the programs. Not with them. The programs.

Vive la difference!

I didn't think about that at all, but who knows? Maybe! I hope Guillaume has the opportunity to explain the costumes meaning and inspirations. That would be very interesting :)

I just reminded myself that next year's pattern is the Midnight Blues and it can be mixed with either Swing or Hip Hop.

I took those Instagram videos with Sam Chouinard as just exercise / fun / random dance exploration. It suddenly occurred to me though: could it have been more serious exploration for the SD next year?

Hmm...

On a semi related topic, can anyone recommend pieces of classical music similar to Mozart's Piano Concerto 23?

I'm even more excited with that explenation

Gabriella and Guillaume are in the top ten of the "Athletes of the Year" by Eurosport France. A very cool achievement considering the poor popularity/exposure of figure skating in France :)

I would have ranked them higher  I mean how many sportsmen jump out of junior to storm euro and world champions. But that's my fan side talking.
About the hip hop, I really hope we'll see some of those Chouinard moves in their new exhibition. I don't know how it can be incorporated though. Apparently, V/M are also working with Chouinard. Interesting ....

Yeah, I noticed that, but Tessa spoke of his help in a 'project' on her Instagram, so I thought it might be a show thing? But I did hmmmmm for them too. ;)

I'd have ranked them No. 1 on the grounds of their age and their meteoric rise to the top in 1 season.

Yep, I've ranked them number 1 too.
Being European and World champions at the age of 19 and 20 is such a huge and tremendous performance, especially in ID!

As for Guillaume, he managed to win both European and World titles within 12 years only (he started in 2003! which seems to me quite "late" - Gabriella started when she was 4 years old). I guess he is the first skater to do so in the Ice Dance history.

I can't really talk about the technical aspect of their new program because I don't know much about Ice Dance steps and holds but they seemed more in sync in their twizzles than last year.
I actually really like this program. They have this "lightness" or "eeriness" that is so pleasant to watch. They don't have to oversell or to dramatize the choreography. I would love to see them on a music more "powerful" or "happier" next season though.
