Gracie Gold

Is it "eat all the cookies" bad or "go spend money you don't have shopping online" bad?

Well that's...pretty good, right?
Its decent. I was really hoping she would match her Philly long score. This was probably A three triple program. Fortunately, her NQS score for Sectionals is decent (but she should probably do another one)…unfortunately this probably didnt Do her any favors for Challengers or SA. If she didn’t get the US Challenger after her Philly skate, I don’t know that they will give her one now (though she is my favorite and I think she did enough so far to warrant one).

There are more challengers, yes?

There are…but, if they weren’t willing to send her to somewhere fairly local (Lake Placid) I think it would be unlikely they would send her to Europe for a Challenger. I could be completely wrong (and hope I am) but it just seems unlikely in my opinion. I think if she could have gotten into the 160s, similar to Sonja Hilmer, it would have been a much stronger case. We need to wait and see what Jill scores, as she has a challenger already. And the subs they had listed for LP were pretty low scoring, I was shocked to not see Gracie’s name honestly.

Well it´s ok, but it will be interesting to see the protocols to see if she singled some jumps or did almost no combos again. But let´s look at the bright side. Last time she had a horrible SP with a score under 50 she imploded in the FS too. So it´s the best score she had in while with a bad start. So of course it´s not what we hoped after Philly, but I would say she is still improving and this was another small step, fighting to get those points.

I´m sure she will do another NQS.

I´m still hoping the reason she wasn´t given the US Challenger is because they have given her a spot at another one already, like Lombardia, Nebelhorn or Finlandia? I just read yesterday on the home page of the German Skating Union that there will be entries from US at Nebelhorn Trophy. For sure that means US must have sent them a list already?

She has scored 180 and 150 so far, it´s not horrible. Hasn´t Sonja Hilmer scored between 150-160 points and she is still given a Challenger? Gracie also was on the podium in Philly. She should be given a Challenger IMO, if she won´t get the SA spot. But, right now I doubt she will be given both.

I was mad, but then I thought well perhaps they are sending her elsewhere.

She may also very well be on the podium here. We don't know yet.

Other skaters who wasn´t listed though, was Amber, Lindsay, Isabeau, Starr Andrews etc. which I´m sure will get a Challenger. I don´t think we should read to much into the substitutes yes.

I wish I had had the money to travel to VA because this is the worst. It's bad enough when I'm there and can only watch from behind my iPhone camera lens but this is even worse.

I totally agree, her scoring potential is much Higher than Sonja Hilmer and I think she at least deserves a challenger. I was looking at Cranberry Cup and her long would have placed 5th. I think the thing for Gracie is that she has to start doing all combos. I will be interested to see protocols but she has a tendency to leave out combos and not put them elsewhere. She is easily leaving out 5-8 points a program that way. Hopefully she learns from this and keeps improving! She has always seemed to struggle with nerves, so the more times she competes, the better!

This is exactly what I thought…but now I’m not so sure. It just seems odd, but I hope I’m wrong!

I don't think her long is finished. But again I could be wrong.

Even if it’s not finished, she’s a good enough skater and a high enough level to do 3 combos, even if they are double lutz, double toe, single loop. If she had put a single jump on the end of one of the jumps at Philly she would have gotten the World’s long minimum. I’m a huge Gracie fan, and have been since I saw her compete as a Juvenile. But I never did understand why she leaves out combos. I hope there are at least two combos on her protocol!
